The issue for Montella came with the signing of Bonucci. It isn't that Bonucci was a bad player and to be honest, I was quite exiting to see that they signed him but not a needed signing . Montella's need to place him in the starting lign-up and building the formation around him is killing us. It seemed he had an idea of what he wanted with the beginning signing such as Musacchio, Connti, RR, Borini, Calhanoglu, Andre Silva , Biglia and Kessie. They are all players that were fitting into his 4-3-3 formation but the moment Bonucci came in, that plan was scraped, and they are finding it hard create an identity and stable formation, which was one thing we had going for last season. We knew we needed players to add depeth and another level. However, all the changes since losing to Lazio is only adding instability to the squad, he should have stuck to the 4-3-3, I know it is hard now with Conti gone, but it seems Borini could fill the gap that or we can try the 4-2-3-1 formation. Bonucci suspension could be the opportunity to try that and get away for the back 3.
I think we need to play a 4-2-3-2 because we are having to many defensive problems and the 2 CDM's would help those centre backs when we are getting counter attached. There is too many counter attacks on our defenders while are midfield is still running back. Too much open space.
