Music is 10/10. Photography is 10/10. The story is 10/10. Acting is 10/10. This will stand inexorably and perennially among centuries. A good way to start a millennium. True genius, art. Cinema is real like this.
Most Sensuous, Seductive and Sophisticated Scene ever filmed! That score! That cheongsam! Maggie Cheung! her coiffure! sighhh!!! Best Picture of 2000!!
I love all of Wong Kar-wai’s films but In the Mood for Love has to be his magnum opus. Sure people can argue it’s more conventional and less creative/stylistic than his other films. However, I just think everything from the composition, to the framing, to the lighting, to the cinematography in general in this film is masterfully done. It’s so mature and just so... perfect.
I feel like this is different from all of his other films. In his other films he loves to put the camera super close to the character's faces, and give us this distorted, subjective feel. In this movie, the camera maintains a distance from the character, refrains from looking across the doorway. I feel like every shot has this hidden power quivering.
