  • In this tutorial video David Jones explains the mathematics behind one of the greatest tool a trader can have nowadays: Slow Stochastic Oscillator. What is this? How to use it? How to read it? Is it really useful? No questions are left unanswered.

    The formula for these videos is spot on: Some theory, a quick sketch, and then applying all to real-world examples. Your healthy skepticism of indicators and emphasis on price action and underlying market trends doesn’t stop you from explaining all of it better than anyone else on TH-cam. Great production values and an understanding of quality are really on display here, at every level. Kudos to the host, and to everyone with a hand in making these.
    I opened and account with 212 largely based on the quality of these videos - that, and the clean, superbly designed UI of the trading platform …which I otherwise wouldn’t have known about.

    Indicators seem to work smoother on mutual funds and market averages than on individual stocks which can turn more abruptly. Especially for positive divergences at bottoms and negative divergences at tops. On stocks, I like to use Bollinger Bands with Slow Stochastics when the stock is sideways like in the middle of the graph. When sideways, can day trade the dips. When the stock is trending up I use the Slow Stochastic to buy dips in uptrends. When the stock is trending down, I use the Slow Stochastic to short bounces in a downtrend. You can use the RSI, when stays above 50 your in an uptrend when RSI stays below 50 your in a downtrend. You can also use moving averages to determine trends. When the RSI goes above and below 50 continuously, you are in a sideways trend.

    What you think about 14-3-3 settigns ? Its default setting on my charting platform. Also,what settings would you suggest for short term trading ? I tried 5-3-3 but its kinda too chopy. This 14-3-3 looking good but I wonder if there is any better solution for short term.

    I'm completely new to trading and trying to learn as much as i can. my question is, does this indicator only work in a days time-frame? I've tried using this and i think I've set it up correctly and i can see clear buy and sell indicators but when i change to a different time-frame it'll throw it out of wack and look the opposite? what am i doing wrong?

    • @Trading212
      @Trading212  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, it is generally accepted among traders that bigger time frames on the chart provide more reliable trading signals. You may watch this video on how to decide what time frame on the chart to choose - th-cam.com/video/UClWf-g1oD0/w-d-xo.html.

    I have a question - the stochastic indicators for any stock vary with the duration, ie in 1 month, there will be more triggers than if I am looking at 3 months or 6 months or more. The buy - or sell - signals are much less. How is that possible?

      I don't think there is a right or wrong setting for such a short term time frame. You could try experimenting with 10 and 5 to see how that works.
