For how small it is it seems like it does a fairly good job of what it sets out to do. It's great to see tech companies branching out to try new products!
Samsung had the Fit2 or Fit3 which wasn't that big either doing almost everything the ring does. Could have been smaller if it didn't need the bigger battery which was powering the display. It would be banger if Samsung made a slim fitness pod which could be worn like a Whoop on the upper arm or ankles so one can wear a normal watch on the wrists. And not cost 10x of the Fit2.
I bought the BKWAT smart ring, which surprised me. It has extraordinary performance and exquisite appearance at half the price. I wore it at night to test my sleep and it was great.
@@Daniel-dj7fhi disagree, theres plenty of band fitness trackers, and for people like me, who hate wearing smart watches and would never take off my mechanical watches, nor want something on my ankle, a ring is an amazing alternative as a fitness tracker, there's already plenty of trackers that go on your wrist
Heart Rate Variability is in the Samsung App. Under Energy Score - It's after the Heart Rate During Sleep and before the Skin Temperature during sleep.
Anyone who has spent any time in a 'real' emergency room knows the damage a 'durable' ring can do. I would like to see a 'break away' feature before wearing any ring of this sort.
@@johnmc3862 I think I've already seen rings that do tap to pay. They only did payments, not fitness tracking or anything else. I think it was called ring pay... Not available in the US if I remember correctly 😮💨
I'm normally a size 7, but with the Galaxy Ring, I went with the size 8 over the 9. The 8 fits snuggly, and the 9 seemed too loose. However, to get it off, I need to use Windex to get it past my knuckles and is a struggle to get it on and off. While I'm still glad I purchased the ring, smart rings in general are probably not for folks with large knuckles or arthritic knuckles. In the next generation, I wish they could make the ring expand slightly to make it easier to get it on and off while still maintaining fit.
You can see the HRV on the energy score, you can also see your Low HR during sleep on the Health app, it shows the highest and lowest HR during sleep, and the SPO2 doesnt tell exactly but you do have a graphic between 90-100% and tells if you had less than 90%
Great review and I like the comparisons. It's interesting to see the different numbers... I personally was really excited about Sammy introducing it and wanted to snag one but I decided against it for now. I don't like wearing things (I actually take my wedding band off at home) and wearing an extra ring is a no-go for me - was hoping to replace my band with it but I know tracking would be worse wearing on my ring finger; I really wanted a way to better track my sleep and tried wearing my watch one night and it was awful... The price on the ring was also a turn-off - it's not horrible but more than I'd want to spend.
I cant wear a smart watch at work. So i just purchased this last night. Sizing ring package comes in 2 days and then we will get the ring eventually. Im hopeful. I bought it really just to catch all my steps and sleep. I have the samsung watch, Z fold 6 and the TV. Im all in on Samsung.
The biggest problem I have with any of these smart rings is that the battery is not replaceable so after a year or so when the very small battery has reached a point of just not holding enough charge to make it useful, you have to just through it away and buy another, aside from this being quite expensive it's also more e-waste. Personally I'll stick to a smart watch coz at least you can change the battery and pass it on when you do decide to buy a new one.
I've had my Fit2 for about 2 years now, and I don't think the battery is any worse than when I got it new. Battery is also not replaceable here. Not saying it shouldn't be, but how would one design a removable battery on the ring?
Great, very thorough review 👍. As I mentioned before, I still think manufacturers should explore different styles beyond the wedding band design. It would be nice to see a smaller, signet-style option that could accommodate more battery and sensors. If I'm already wearing a ring, an extra 2-3 grams wouldn’t bother me, especially if it means I can skip wearing a watch.
@@marley720 True. It's mainly for those who want something simple that can do some of the things that a Galaxy watch does. Measuring vitals is kinda the reason for the ring, and since watches aren't comfortable when sleeping with them, people usually take them off, and at that point you are no longer getting measurements. The ring basically mitigates the lack of comfort, and in exchange you get constant stats on your wellbeing.
I've got both, and the honest answer is no. But the ring does seem to do a bit better with sleep tracking and the temperature sensor and oxygen saturation seem to be far more accurate. I am using a watch 5 Pro though so the differences may be slimmer on a watch 7.
its supposed to be better at tracking your sleep, heart beat and all that since the finger is supposedly the best way to measure those things vs your wrist. its like the watch is a jack of all trades and this ring is the master of one. Im sticking with the watch since i am not a ring guy. the metrics it measures seem to be very accurate for me so i am fine
With a month of data, was a decent enough chunk done with the galaxy watch ultra? I hear the watch and ring work together to get more accurate information. I wonder if it would end up being closer to something like a whoop strap or if there's really any meaningful change to the accuracy of the data.
I have 2 watches and I am always wearing one. Need to force sync by changing the connected watches, its annoying. I wonder how good are the software to pull the data from the ring. Samsung is not very user friendly.
mine dident last 1 mounth even, got errors like: ring is too hot ( and is not ) and the ring is disconnecting from the phone ...gona send it back to samsung...
Maybe you can consider BKWAT smart ring, It is lighter, more comfortable to wear, and can detect health data more accurately. More importantly, it costs only one-third of the price.
@@mikebaker2927 What a scam, even at 200 bucks it would have been one. This is not worth 10x of a Fit2 to me. I would have willingly paid 100 bucks just because it's so small, tech wise it's nothing special.

The ring needs Near-Field Communication (NFC) to use for tap-and-go to buy things with, with a maximum of $100 for buying things. Use it for emergencies, like buying prescription meds at a pharmacy. I won't buy it if it doesn't have the NFC in it. Plus, ring needs to be thinner for us girls. It's too wide/thick.
