Own the same saw and love it . Works perfectly and when you invest a bit of time to align it properly its cuts very accurately. The only negative point is the massive inrush current of the motor. Makes the saw nearly bouncing at motor startup. Added a softstart module in the switch housing and it starts up like a purring kitten now. 👍

I do a couple of these saws a week, really durable. Usually cooked off by a new builder doing full depth rips on long wet timber. Wee tip on fitting the leads to the brush holder: I straighten the tab, remove the brush holder, fish the lead and connector out the holder hole. Connect it, put the holder back in and bend the connector and tab out the way.
Them parts are no more than 50 Euros to Dewalt and thats probably a stretch. The markup is literally Fraud if you ask me.. I wish company's were scrutenised by there government or some body that could walk in and do an inventory and pricing and say.. No you cant charge that much, thats illegial lads.. The likes of Dewalt is capitalism at is finest... Dyson is another one that drives me mad..
It's weird though, I can buy the exact same parts from the official Dewalt site in NL, armature 85/field 80/brushes 5 euro. Maybe its becaue its an 240V machine that is not commonly sold by Dewalt in the UK but is in the rest of EU.
Great advice about the metal fillings getting dragged in to the machine. Definitely needs some sort of filter in place if they are always cutting aluminium etc. Definitely worth fixing for half the price of a new machine. Cheers Dean.
A soft start module can be easily put on this saw which makes a huge difference to start up - no jolt and I believe it prolongs motor life? Maybe Dean has an opinion???
Don't worry Dean, I was cursing for you while watching how you had to fiddle with that lead, installing the spade connectors onto the brush holder and those cable clamps into the switch housing!
Great video. I own the same saw so very educational for me. Well done and filmed as well. Love the accent :) Thank you. I will keep your advise in mind. Though I must say that the saw costs me in NL about EURO 610,00 incl VAT nowadays. These parts are really expensive.
Sounds like a perfect candidate to cable clamp a long flexible dust extraction pipe to the motor housing to move the air intake well out of the way of chips. Maybe add a filter as well?? 🤔 Should keep it running longer next time and definitely a lot cheaper then replacing the motor on a regular basis!! 😅👍👍👍👍👍
I have the same saw in the US (dwe7491 120v) it's been reliable for 2-3 years of light use. The cost seemed high until you realize US sales tax is not included in advertised price because it varies so much by state and even locality, while VAT is included and also a higher percent. 220v being a lower sales volume makes up the difference of about 100euro. The repair is still economical compared to new. (US lowes, homedepot) (UK toolstoreUK, toolden, its)
Hi, Can you tell me the name/model of the cam lever pliers (not sure how to call them) you used to help put the cable clamp into the motor housing? Thanks for the great video.
When repairing tools, do you speak to manufactures (Ryobi, DeWalt ect) if still under warranty. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on after sales service as mine has so far been mixed. There's lots of videos on tool testing from different makes but not much on the after sales service which I guess varies a lot from region to region, Cheers
You may be referring to the 8 and one querter saw 110 volt which I just purchased for about the same. Wanted the 10 inch 220 volt which I used to have but the price for those has skyrocketed.
$790 in Canada c get's you the better model that accepts a dado stack and has the rolling saw stand. I have the model you are working on. Paid $450 on sale. They actually don't sell that 10" model anymore as the table was deemed to small for the blade diameter. It's 8" now Regulations. Ugh.
I have a DW745GB type 3 I hoped this video would help me put it back together. I bought it while stationed in Saudi Arabia. It stopped working and I took it back to the dealer a week later they went out of business. I got it back all apart. All of the wiring is disconnected and I can't find anything or anybody to help me put it back together. Even Dewalt was no help. Im now in the Philippines and still searching for help. I have watched alot of your videos and I'm hoping maybe you could help. Specifically how it is wired all the wires were removed.
Things are expensive in your country. In the US a 110v is only $350/400. - NEW m/c Does it have a proper metal saw blade with negative tooth rake.: [ 80/100 tooth blade] and use plenty of Silicone Spray to lubricate the cut. - the swarf looks like they are cutting Dry !
You sure its the 7492 10inch table saw. we must be getting ripped of here. Not sure if it was am alu blade, think it was a multi material blade. But there was no silicon lube used anyway
I'm kinda surprised by the prices here, maybe it's because it's a 240V machine wich is not commonly sold by Dewalt in the UK ? In NL/BE the whole lot of parts you got would be around 170 Euro. Not a fan of this table saw btw, for some reason it seems to burn out a lot quicker then the ones used on the DW743/S27107 saws which have the same 2000 Watt power.
Yeah I also don't understand why kind of supplier he got... Sometimes he's talking about 50€ brushes. Like wtf... It's a bit of graphite, you can get 3rd party ones for like 2€. The original ones are certainly not 25 times better!
The dw743 which is basically a old ELU Tgs model has a induction motor. They are less likely to burn out. It is just, that reliability lost against marketing.
The cost of parts for Dewalt is rediculous and their saws are not that well designed as illustrated in this video. First of all that motor is a direct drive so is taking a 100 % back force from the blade this results in increased wear to the bearings and increased amperage in the windings which leads to overheating and jumping starts.Belt driven blades allow some leeway and take out the shock of the direct drive. The customer would probably be better using a cheaper table saw for cutting metals such as Evolution which are a third of the price.
Could the guy not install a do it yourself mesh screen over one side? From frame bar to bar. Depending on how it's accomplished, it might not affect air draw in any significant way, yet avoids the aluminum shavings. It can also be easily and cheaply replaced. I mean, it's not like he cares about the warranty at this point lol. Might as well add some hillbilly ingenuity to the mix for longevity.
@@Mobin92 And I think secondarily because we get tired of things faster over here. Why fix an old beat up tool when you can have a shiny new one has a lot to do with it. A fine hair net over the end of the motor will keep the biggest chunks out!
Sounds like they weren’t connecting a dust extractor/shop-vacuum to it ⚠️

Nice job Dean. 👍🏻 nice to see a different tool getting fixed.
That’s wild that saw is 1200euro. Its 599$ at my local Home Depot here in US
It may be do to the fact that it is 220 volt, I'm not sure though.
Dean, get yourself some forceps for those fiddly spade connectors. Fishing ones are really cheap

Hello Dean. May I ask a question not related to this programme. What will happen when a controller from a Festool OF1010 is put in a Festo OF900E?

Those cable grips, you can buy a 'proper' set of pliers for them that makes them quite a bit easier to remove and refit.
Known as “strain relief pliers”. They make putting them back on a breeze.
No parts available for earlier versions of this saw
Just thought will help you with the jobs. Do like your work or some 👍🏻
What a silly system to connect the brushes! In Taiwan worktime seams to be priceless.
So far all the DeWalt repairs he did had some unnecessarily tedious bullshit in them. Would absolutely not buy DeWalt ._.

Can you test motor to see it is blown
Just switch it on. If there is a lot of blue flashes coming from the motor, it's burnt out.
Wow, $300 for the saw in US, and I thought even that was expensive
