He looks like he'll be pretty versatile. And i really like the spellbook mechanic, its a little different but refreshing. Character wise, hes ok. I wish that the paint made him more lively, like the more you use his abilities the more lively Hwei himself gets and then once out of combat he becomes drained of that color and becomes basic Hwei. Overall I quite like him, gonna have to give him a go and see if i like to make him one of my top 3 go to midlaners
I like the visual design quite a bit, the full emo look makes his colourful abilities more eye catching, the tortured genius artist is also a pretty good trope(in my eyes). I do wish that he was either more slender(maybe sunk the cheeks a bit more) or some more shadows on his body, or maybe some more paint stains, maybe if they went with a bit of goth with that emo. He looks like he fits more in the heartsteel skin line than some of the champions currently in it. My main fear is his gameplay, I really want to play him, it looks quite fun, but his kit is pretty much the unholy child of Ryze and Aphelios, it will most likely be hell to balance.
Im an artist and I love his design! I like that he has some complexity in his gameplay, I bet he will be satisfying if done well. Thank you for explaining so well 🎨
Loving the concept, especially the difficulty there is going to be in choosing the right spells for the right moments. Not a massive fan of the way the champ looks or the portrait of him either, but we'll see
As an Invoker player, he seems very attractive to me as a League Player. I'll try to find a way to abuse him in BOT, since Mages tend to be better than ADCs per power in a lane where they're protected, over Marksmen. However, I noticed that at [16:18] that Hwei has Ludens Tempest (80AP), Doran's Ring (18AP) and full Dark Seal (55AP). However, none of those items give enough AP for that much AP on live. Even if he goes double shard (+16) he doesn't get to reach 194AP. That means either Luden's Tempest is going to be 90AP again, OR they're changing Dark Seal to give more AP per stack. Even Gathering Storm (8 AP at 10 minutes) can't split the difference there. That means Mages are getting systematic changes to increase their damage, or perhaps add more utility to their kits instead of having Items which range from jank (Everfrost) to super-picks (Liandry's)
Havent really played the game in 6 years, tried to test the waters recently but am waiting until after the new year to really jump in. Absolutely love this champion.
First reactions were fairly similar to yours--overall, I'm incredibly excited to play him! I wasn't too fond of his aesthetic either. To me, his splash art makes him look a little like a young Apehlios (the characters definitely look related). I do LOVE the ability effects, though. On paper 10 abilities seems like overkill, but fits the champions concept well--it'd be a little off if an artist could only paint 4 abilities...but if he's been inspired by Jhin, they could have made it work, right? In any case, equally excited to play and learn Hwei and even more stoked for map changes to go live :) thank you for keeping us updated, Huzz
Yeah bcs he is a twink femboy with make up, that ruins it. Riot too wants to push the agenda of inclusion, and the boys that look like him irl finally feel represented. Like who cares about champions looking like u, it's a video game
As an artist myself and lover of mages in League, I am super hyped for him. I love the way he looks, I don't mind his dark tone in appearance too much (Although I agree, it might be too much?) and honestly upon looking at the title of the video alone, I felt like this Champ would be complicated like Aphelios at first glance... (And I hated him for the longest time, and I'm an ADC main. That hatred has long passed, now I'm playing him myself occasionally.) I'm hoping he won't be too underwhelming in a way, he seems interesting, despite the complications in combos, but it'll probably just take some time to get used to. Also these map changes are WILD...
He looks like an interesting addition to the champion roster. He seems like he will be very versatile in the fights and I think teamfights will be where he will shine.
The concept looks amazing combining magic and artistry. So much colours and interesting shapes we havent seen in league before. Also robes that have emerald/violet/dark purple tints are used for mages/wizards. He is a bit gloomy/dark but its reminds me of Sasuke in a way. Cool, cold, strong, intelligent. A more vibrant version would be awesome too but I can see why they made him this way.
QQ: Jayce Q QW: Xerath W, with a dash of Kha'Zix QE: Vel E, with a dash of Rumble R WQ and WW: Seems to be new WE: Nami W(?) EQ: Vex Q empowered, but skillshot EW: Cool R: Cool So, balance team gave up, huh? Gotyam EUW
Looks like a fun champ to play but will be the reason for a lot of frustration in the beginning. A fun change from the previous champion where you only need to press one button.
Hey Huzz! I heard about this champion a few hours ago when my friends mentioned it over Discord and, thankfully, you released this video in a nick of time! To be honest, I'm genuinely on the fence about this one. I feel like he could be a nightmare to balance, as in one buff or nerf could either make him too strong or too weak. I can't say as of now cause I still have to wait for his release to see what he's really made of. I hope to run into this champion in the Rift as soon as he's released or even try a bit of him myself.
Honestly he is the first mage I've been interested in playing in 6 years (since they killed Malz). Now we'll just have to wait to see the ap items to find out if it's worth me going back to midlane from jungle
Hes def going to be played support ALOT. Movement speed, shield, and slows with the ability to also do massive damage. He will be a menace in bot lane.
The concept of Hwei is awesome and he has "Aphelios but Mage" vibes, but also very unique. I want to see the numbers and judge better if he'll be op or not.
Love the concept so much! Hope it’s not a lot of damage and maybe a little more cdr just for more skill expression, however it does feel like it could’ve been somewhat like a ryze rework instead obviously not copy and paste but a blending spells mage feels quite “ryze like”
Honestly, seems simple enough? He reminds me of Aphelios because of how he has everything: Percentage damage and an execute, Utility, Shields and Mana-Sustain, a fear, root and flat damage. Aphelios had life steal, dps, wave-clear and CC... Felt a bit overloaded. So, hope this doesn't become like that. Also hoping the numbers here are super low on their own because of him having ten separate cooldowns... Yee... I wish they made cool champions like Brand, Orianna, Lissandra, LeBlanc, Vex, and Syndra who have actual synergies and combos within their kit rather than just being overloaded. Give champions skill expression that is meaningful rather than adding more and more to make any champ do literally anything.
I'm so hyped for Hwei...he looks like he'll be a lot of fun to play, but also satisfying to learn and pull off some awesome plays when you pick the right ability in the moment.. loving his overall design too! I like that he seems more complex to learn 🖌🎨
Cant wait for tomorrows video. 🙊 maybe ill go try norms again and check out the changes. Idk if ill pick up the champ. My fingers arent what they used to be. Dont think id do him justice, id just keep canceling abilities
He reminds me a little bit of Yusuke from Persona 5 with his love for art and his gloomy persona (no pun intended), but I’m definitely interested to see his scaling ability. With so many combo variations, I wonder if early game will be a struggle for him.
I would say not knowing the possible combos that might come out at any point in time will be scary but in order to effectively use that fear will be up to skill. 11 skills I guess😂. A passive fear that can be lost. Now I do see the cooldowns seem to be a bit high early so if you just throw everything out you’re pretty vulnerable. Maybe early game just using the Q(QWE) and E(QWE) for poke but keeping your W available for escape or counter poke. It seems he’ll be more of a team fight champion as the chaos will make it hard for enemies to dodge the torrent of abilities and since they are distracted them won’t have time to predict what ability might be coming out. It’ll also give you time for your abilities to come off cd. Can’t wait him, already coming up with combos
I doubt this champion will be too broken, because his versatility is locked behind shared cooldowns. His mana hungriness might also make him feel quite harsh to play in the earlygame. On the design aspect, man he looks exactly like a champion I would main, and I probably will. I really like playing Aphelios due to the options you have, and this more direct approach seems very fun to play. Props to Riot for giving this invoker style champion, he looks awesome!
i love Aphelios but i dont really play BOT that much so Hwei is an awesome addition to the midlane champ pool. I very much look forward to the new season.
wait at15:40 did yuumi detach on purpose or does yuumi no longer stay on invis champs? also mana costs and cds seem really high, hopefully there are some decent mana and cdr items in preseason
i actually really like the look of this champ i really hope he doesn't become a proplay exclusive or another 500 years champion..... hopefully riot will surprise us.
I think Riot just gave themselves some extra work. If they have trouble balancing champs with 4 abilities, good luck to balancing this champ with 10. Although, I think if Hwei does come out balanced, he seems really cool in the way that you could adapt your spells to each scenario. However, if he is too adaptable, he may just have to be nerfed everywhere to compensate, which hopefully won't be the case.
I think he may either have a bunch of counterplay or there will be certain abilities that are so much better than the others that it would stupid to use anything else, I really hope it is the former.
I think he looks really cool, im glad riot is taking a break from the "simple" champs cuz honestly they are a bit boring to play as and against. I would guess he will be a bit broken on release but with time he will become basically a mid lane Aphelios (he even looks like him lol), design wise i actully really like him, not really for the emo look he got going on but more bcs he is very androgynous and i think that is a type of character design league hasnt done yet. So yea over all cant wait to play him, he looks very fun!(also what the hell is up with the map??)
Kinda the same on my end. I'm not in love with his visual design, but the gameplay looks like it's gonna be the ryze comboing taken to the 11th, which I love. Can't wait to play him, but I also hope Item changes will be kind to mages (finally)
I do like his looks, he's quite fabulous already. I'd have to hear his voicelines as well though. I also expect there to be more vibrant, less gloomy skins for him in the future. I do like how he looks gameplay wise as well, the versatility and decision making sounds pretty cool. For a moment i thought he could spam all 10 spells in a row, wich would have been waaay much. But the spellbooks having their own cooldown does make it seem more balanced(balanceable).
I think he is really cool. I might play him. My playstyle is strange a little bit right now. I play mid jungle and support, but hopefully if I like him I can solidify my main role as mid.
TLDR for those who didnt get it: Q spells are Offensive spells W spells are Utility spells E spells are Control spells Anyone who uses advanced softwares (like Blender) that alongside shortcuts have multikey-tap functionalities should have an easy time playing him.
Finally a champion who will actually take some skill to master, hopefully he really isn't going to be to op on release. Would love to be able to play this as just got back into lol
I think he is going to be really fun to play, and probably very hard to master. Knowing when to use which of your abilities is going to be key to playing him well. That said I feel like with 10 abilities his kit is going to be so overloaded that he is going to be way OP, or RIOT is going to have to nerf him into the ground to keep him from taking over every game. I'm excited for the changes we got a sneak peak of in this video. Can't wait for your next video!!!!
I’m super excited for this guy I can’t wait for them to come out I love how he walks and I’m super excited I think the most for his skin potential for the future and to see how gameplay develops within the community only thing I’m sad about is he’s gonna be hard to be able to play pick/ban wise
He's gonna be a champion that loses to anyone who can just flat out jump on him, similar to any other control made except azir can ult and push you back. I don't see him being able to 1v1 a master yi, briar, or rengar, or yone, or even yasuo once yas lands tornado and ult. Also, I'm wondering if the new league of legends map is going to be permanent or just something they are doing for the winter time? If it's permanent, this is going to change league of legends in big ways than most can imagine.
I'm on the side of he might be balanced or overpowered. He looks like he might be difficult to learn, which is neat, and the design and the champion look interest, lore for him too! He's fascinating and I'm excited to see where he goes
Without knowing anything about the champ and seeing that he has 10 abilities, I feel it's gonna be like Aphelios, in the point of learning and adapting I mean
Finally Invoker is coming to LoL, and they did a better job than the parallel Rubick/Sylas ! The shared cooldown is a smart feature, but how hard will it be to balance...
I absolutely love him. His design is cool but his skill animations and gameplay are what I really love about him. I like how the way his abilities work is easy to understand but probably gnna be quite hard to use him optimally in game. Ichi Exorz EUW
My thoughts are he’s going to be hard to balance like Aphelios. But like Aphelios he’s immobile so I think riot can get him to a good point of balance if they try to do it. Super excited to play this champ though. Been waiting for a an interesting control mage for a while (though Seraphine was going to fill this void but sadly she’s meh to me and stands on a stage)
He is probably gonna be broken when he comes out, but hopefully they will manage to balance him and he'll be a champ that will be worth learning how to play in depth
Hewi will be hard to play and difficult to master. But will be very rewarding and as a BFA major, I love to say I know have a character of my profession in the game. So I’m hyped to see Hewi.
He looks like the new Aphelios in terms of long ability decsriptions. I love the style though
Im an artist and I love his design! I like that he has some complexity in his gameplay, I bet he will be satisfying if done well. Thank you for explaining so well 🎨
I can see he will be well balanced, not too op against EVERYTHING. Also I really like his design and style, I'm sure I will play him a lot.
invoker?
Ah yes, the three elements: Fire, Water and SPOOKY
Loving the concept, especially the difficulty there is going to be in choosing the right spells for the right moments. Not a massive fan of the way the champ looks or the portrait of him either, but we'll see
I want to see you playing this champ. I hope Riot wont panic buff him. K'sante supposed to be difficult too.
I like how each spellbook has different motifs Q - damage W - support E - Crowd Control.
This champ looks interesting but i worry about how they are going to balance it because i do get kind of aphelios vibes on balancing.
6:40 im really glad to hear this because im really tired of losing mages to the support role.
As an Invoker player, he seems very attractive to me as a League Player. I'll try to find a way to abuse him in BOT, since Mages tend to be better than ADCs per power in a lane where they're protected, over Marksmen.

At first I thought he had 9 separate cool downs, makes more sense with 3. Looks really cool, excited to try to learn him.

Nice to see a rethink on good ol Invoker's skill kit.
i actually love both the gameplay and visual design honestly, also glad he's a mage 'cause i kinda only play mages so i'm really hyped
As an artist.....YEA im extremely excited for Hwei. So many things he can do. This will really be an experience.
As an artist myself and lover of mages in League, I am super hyped for him. His W spellbook makes me wonder if nashor/lich bane could be viable, will definitely be interesting to see the numbers and next video you do on him!
thanks for the quick releases of these videos!
I'm always down to get more mages, would love to see how they make a modern complex mage in modern day League design sensibilities!
He looks like an interesting addition to the champion roster. He seems like he will be very versatile in the fights and I think teamfights will be where he will shine.

Great vid Huzz! Always like you speaking about the new champs. I like him, finally a skillful mage champ I think the last mage was in 2016 right?
The art style for the champion is reminiscent of one of brandon sandersons new book- yumi and the nightmare painter
Looks like a fun champ to play but will be the reason for a lot of frustration in the beginning. A fun change from the previous champion where you only need to press one button.

Reminds me of a champ in Dota that has like 12 different ability combos
I really like the idea of this champion which is nice after K'Sante, Naafiri and Briar all champions who I didn't like playing. Hwei seems super cool
looks like can be played support or mid think those that like Aphelios and Karma will find him good
Hes def going to be played support ALOT. Movement speed, shield, and slows with the ability to also do massive damage. He will be a menace in bot lane.
The concept of Hwei is awesome and he has "Aphelios but Mage" vibes, but also very unique. I want to see the numbers and judge better if he'll be op or not.
It's like they took jhin, aphelios, karma, and rumble and just mashed them together with a senna w for his ult.
And I love all of those champions.
He's the Invoker of League Of Legends from DoTA 2.
@@IndpethGeneticPolymatit was only a matter of time before they released a similar character
I'm glad to see a champion finally peak my curiosity with its mechanics. Here's to hoping that he will not be too strong 🤞
as a new league player holy man that's scary, but never a better time to learn right
Love the concept so much!
I love it. Great job once again Huzzy. Always come to you for no bs new champ introduction.
I'm so hyped for Hwei...he looks like he'll be a lot of fun to play, but also satisfying to learn and pull off some awesome plays when you pick the right ability in the moment.. loving his overall design too! I like that he seems more complex to learn 🖌🎨
Definitely feel a painfull experience coming up for us and the balance team
Seems like a really cool kit! He is kind of giving me some orianna vibes with the aoe power and being able to shield allies
He looks neat. I share the same concerns about his survivability.

Props to Riot for giving this invoker style champion, he looks awesome!
Oh and on top of that, when you are in a difficult situation, your finger inputs need to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT or else you will fail the battle.
He doesn't have shared cooldowns, each spell is a separate cooldown - his mana though is 100% a limitation
@@HuzzyGames I meant that all forms of Q, for example, have 1 shared cooldown.
i love Aphelios but i dont really play BOT that much so Hwei is an awesome addition to the midlane champ pool. I very much look forward to the new season.

Thinks for bringing the balance and not just the hype, Huzz.
Think he might be a bit difficult to balance like Aphelios but looks rewarding
I think Riot just gave themselves some extra work. If they have trouble balancing champs with 4 abilities, good luck to balancing this champ with 10. Aphelios but as a mage, sounds like he's going to be nerfed to the ground like Aphelios. And there's a bit of the updates shown in the laning phase.
I'd love to try it, thanks for all the contant Huzz :)
very hyped for Hwei, i love the skills and his visual. cant wait to play him
I'm on the side of he might be balanced or overpowered. He looks like he might be difficult to learn, which is neat, and the design and the champion look interest, lore for him too! He's fascinating and I'm excited to see where he goes
Sounds really complicated but when you look at him he really isn't
love the champ i will be a mage player when he gets out
and love the new map changes soo far
ty ty mr. huzzy
yo what version of light bringer is that in the outro? it sounds so majestic
Without knowing anything about the champ and seeing that he has 10 abilities, I feel it's gonna be like Aphelios, in the point of learning and adapting I mean
Finally Invoker is coming to LoL, and they did a better job than the parallel Rubick/Sylas ! The shared cooldown is a smart feature, but how hard will it be to balance...
i can see it being balanced since the power budget distribution can be consistent, but damn thats a nigtmare if they dont tune this well
Is complicated. Still excited to see how is he going to fit in the meta !
Now we finally have a mage that can do everything.
New champs always op but looking forward to trying him out
I absolutely love him. His design is cool but his skill animations and gameplay are what I really love about him.
I like how the way his abilities work is easy to understand but probably gnna be quite hard to use him optimally in game.

So I’m hyped to see Hewi.
amazing work as always !
I'm more intrigued on the map changes
He's the perfect support for a Jhin not even gonna lie.
This seems like he's got a bit of everything in his toolkit... I think this is gonna be a tough one to balance.
I think he’s got a lot in his kit, but he does require a lot of skill. As long as his cooldowns are long enough.
