Been a tent camper most my life. Grandparents had a campsite up in the Poconos in PA every weekend & vacations. When my grandchildren came along I started taking them emmediatly to learn. I went from tent to pop-up tent. Got a area to stand up and dress. Cooking area, sink, and 2 double beds on either side . We go to campsites here in Virginia. Usually it cost tent site $45. 00 a weekend. They have bathhouse, laundromat, country store incase u need something, all kinds of outside activities, and u can rent a golf cart for the day if you aren't able to walk the hiking trail, ponds to fish, and beautiful sites to b in even larger rigs.
I’ve been wondering when burn-out would set in, but then ALL of us face burn-out. That’s why we take vacations, go for long walks, listen to music that soothes us or take time to just breathe. Burn-out happens and, while the image on this video has a rather hopeless air about it, one day at a time. The sun will set tonight and rise tomorrow, even still.

OMG, you’re in my neck of the woods. I live just north of Utica and just at the foothills of the ADK’s. I know the ADK’s and some of their campgrounds. My favorite campground is FishCreek Pond campgrounds. It’s right off of the Upper Saranac lake. Please reach out if you have any questions about the ADK’s. Lake Placid has some great history. The winter Olympics was hosted in LP back in the 80’s. The ski jumps are still active all year long with training. There’s high peaks everywhere. A certain 46 of them are the known to be the highest. When you climb all 46, you’re considered a 46’r.

We have our tent but also a camper shell on our Tundra 6' bed. Back seats in the cab roll up for another sleep space and the front seats recline down for a comfy place to chill or sleep. Got a tarp to put over it all as well. We looked at every RVish thing imaginable and decided to keep things simple. Tons of cool TH-cam vids re build outs for truck camping.
Very interesting analysis and comparison of camping options. I know this is boring, but I like an uncrowded campground with a host. Less likely to get robbed. You have an authority to call on if there are unruly campers. You can tell the host you're going to be gone a while so keep an eye on our stuff Campground hosts are underappreciated. I've met some really great ones - that's the majority of them.
So glad you took some time off to get some rest! I don’t even know how y’all do what you do. That’s a LOT of set up and tear down that could be spent doing your kayak camping and cold camping 🥶 Can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. We will be right there with you two!! I admire how long you have done tent camping this far. For all the effort it takes to set up and break it down. I started tent camping as a single mom when my son started boy scouts in second grade. scouts camped every other weekend. later when I got married , I even camped with scouts in a tent in a sleeping bag on the ground at 7 months pregnant with my second son with my husband and 1st son. Our family vacations were even tent camping. 9 days long trips. we had our tent, a screen tent over picnic table and a whole outdoor kitchen set up. We used Dutch oven a lot over fire pits. Then my third son came along and we still tent camped, even at a campground that what felt like a hurricane went thru at night. we had a blow up mattress and cots by this point and the blow up mattress was hovering above ground a couple inches. it broke poles off our tent and tore up our screen house. Believe it or not we still tent camped. lol. Then when my youngest son turned about 7 years old we turned to cabins, either rustic(no bathroom or kitchen) or full small house like cabins. I am now 52 years old and need 2 knee replacements. I still love the thought of tent camping and do miss it. But cabins are easier on me now. I think it was a span of about 17 years tent camping between scouts and family vacations. my first born is now 33 years old. Again I admire you and give you props for all the traveling plus tent camping. Good luck in your decision making about your future camping choices. Stay safe and safe travels!

As I've gotten older, I've realized that tent camping is still fun, but sometimes...I want...a/c. -gasp- I know, the humanity. But sometimes, a few creatures comforts isn't bad. Doesn't mean you gotta go out and grab a 32 ft RV. But maybe something more secure, a little more comfy, as well as still versatile enough to keep the lifestyle you live. I 100% support whatever y'all decide. Just keep on keeping on . Love y'all.
I’ve been full-time for six years in a travel trailer I don’t know how you been in a tent as long as you have. I used to tent camp and that’s what prompted me to buy my first travel trailer I was really tired of sleeping on the ground per se and dealing with teardown set up and tear down. I think he would be making a wise decision to get a hard sided camper so much easier for travel and a lot safer overall. Wishing you lots of luck.❤
Hi guys.. what you're talking about is called "evolving".. The hubby and I started out in a tent and now we have a beautiful pull behind self sufficient travel trailer and a pick up camper like the one you looked at.. The pickup camper allows you to go so many more places that you are not able to go on foot. . Glad to see you're taking us on another chapter in your lives evolving is good it's what we do.. Kelly put your over landing seat belt on it's going to be a hell of a ride 😊
Thank ya'll for sharing your adventures with us! I wish I had the energy you two have! I have friends who have used a truck bed camper for horse camping for years. They love theirs and can pull the horse trailer behind it. Ya'll could still pull your trailer behind it for storage. Word of advice though...buy at least a 3/4 ton truck. You can never have too much truck!!! Something else to consider is to do your research on how much weight is on the truck...remember that ALL of the weight is sitting on the truck, whereas with a fifth wheel or bumper pull most of the weight is sitting on the trailer's axles and the truck is pulling it rather than carrying it. I ruined a 1/2 ton Ram pulling my horses in a bumper pull trailer before I finally found a good used F250 Diesel and gooseneck horse trailer. I got better gas mileage with the bigger truck and there was so little strain on the truck...it hauled beautifully. Don't be afraid to look "outside the box" and check out horse trailers with living quarters. They are sturdier and much better made than most campers. You can use the horse hauling part for storage, bicycles, etc. You are going to LOVE the Adirondacks...so beautiful, but different than the Rockies. Ya'll are going to need at least a couple of weeks for just the Adirondacks. A good place to start is Blue Mountain Lake to visit the Museum and learn about the Adirondacks/geology/history/culture. Definitely going to need those kayaks because there are gorgeous lakes everywhere!!! I cannot wait to see your upcoming videos! Ooooo, and Saratoga Springs it one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Reminds me of Hot Springs, but much grander. If the race track is still open, that is a must do! SPAC has an outdoor/amphitheater for live concerts. Tomorrow September, 18, Willie Nelson will be performing there! Be sure to check out pizza places and OMG...the cheese shops!!! Vermont cheddar is AMAZING! Hoping while you are in that area, ya'll can see the White Mountains, Green Mountains and Berkshire Mountains as well. Must see Vermont, Massachusetts/Berkshire Mountains, Conneticut and Algonquin, Maine! On your way back South you may want to check out the Poconos and Allegheny mountains in Pennsylvania. From there, it is a beautiful Interstate Drive thru Virginia down to the Smokey Mountains.
I think you would love a truck camper. We have an old one- when they still used wood, and we love it. No muss, no fuss. You can pull in, stay overnight with only one task- balancing the wheels so you are extra comfy. I do miss the fresher air of tent camping, but that is easily done if you are going to be in a place a little longer. Just throw your tent in the back seat of your truck. I have been a camper on and off for years. Tent, RV. RVs even brand new can have problems. But the the problems cost a lot more and its cheaper to camp. Just upgrade your tent camping supplies as you go and take a break once in a while. That’s my two cents have a great life❤️❤️😘 I’m a 71 year old women and now camp in the backyard. My husband sleeps in the house. I cook, campfire, and have a portable pottie. I love it. Camp on and enjoy yourself.
Burn out is real! I feel for you. I retired from teaching this year at age 55 after 25 years of teaching. Most teachers retire at 60 or 61. I couldn’t do it. Your tent burn out is something I felt too. As I got older tent camping got rough on my body. I bought an old Xfinity service van and built it into my weekend camper. - Holiday Tinn

R&R is so important! TH-cam is much more demanding than a lot of people realize and I'm so glad y'all took a few days off. I can more full time TH-camr's switching to a 'seasons' upload schedule which naturally adds in breaks and something to look forward to. Just like us corporate jockeys looking forward to vacation! we did the whole tent thing too, traveling through the Smokies etc......set up for a night than take down, set up and down........gets to you! AND like you said, it takes time. Sounds like a truck trailer, would work best for you. You can unload it and drive off, or just leave it on the truck. Perhaps for more room, look at truck campers with slide outs, gives you more room etc.......just make sure that you can get around the inside with the slide outs IN. Your videos and others inspired us to get a slide in truck camper. We even stayed in some of your favorite campsites in the Ouachita's and Ozarks! We purchased a 2021 Palomino SS550 pop up slide in camper to give us less wind resistance and clearance down forest highway roads. We highly recommend this type of vehicle and camper combination. We chose the SS 550 because it fit the 1/2 ton Ford F150 we owned. We just get in and go!

Our friends bought a truck camper and they absolutely love it. They are a lot roomier then I thought they would be. They have plenty of storage and are very happy they bought it. Just do what’s right for you.
If you’re in the high peaks area of the Adirondacks, some recommendations. Food: Ice Jam Inn, Old Mountain Coffee, and Enuf. Fishing: on the East or West branch of the Ausable or Bouquet River. Mountain biking in Wilmington.

There are a lot of truck bed campers out there. Find one that has the right layout for you, and go for it. Get a good 4wheel drive truck w/flatbed. Put a winch on it. Winch can be used many ways.
We remember burn out. I know you have a truck camper now. We purchased Clam 12 x 12 ft. Pop up easy set up. Traveled the country with it. Kept everything in our 2017 Dodge Caravan with seats that folded in the floor.
We were just in New York State back in May. We loved it. Going back next summer. The weather was perfect. Unfortunately it was raining on our second day of the Adirondacks. We bought our camper up there. It is a Sunline. The company was based in Pennsylvania and went out of business in 2008. I believe they began making truck campers. I think that a truck camper would be great for a couple. I am excited for you guys.
My husband and I follow your vlog and enjoy it so much. It is completely understandable to want to evolve and change up to meet your needs and we wish you luck finding the vehicle that best fits. We live in Rochester and just finished (well almost) building out a van. We’ll be weekenders for awhile but hoping to get to more extended trips in the next few years. I hope you enjoyed our hometown. There is so much to see and do, but recognize you all were on a rest stop over! We have the BEST public farmers market that you would love if you are ever back on a Saturday. It’s one of the oldest in the country and has everything for food and cooking lovers!! Have so much fun in the ADKs, another one of our most favorite areas. Not sure where you are going but we love Brown Tract Pond. Primitive camping but a wonderful lake, kayaking, fishing and an island to paddle out to and jump off rocks. Just beautiful and serene. The nearby town of Inlet is cool too. Small, not as busy as Old Forge. So many other camps and towns I could go on forever! Welcome to NY and enjoy your time in our beautiful state!!
Hey guys my wife and I really enjoy your videos just wanted to make a suggestion I would get a camper shell for your truck and then get a pull behind camper you can drop and boot the camper and just drive anywhere without the camper on the truck hope you enjoy
That's how I feel about the pop-up camper that I bought. You always have to pull out the end's bedrooms. An annual purge away. You have to go around in about 3 times tucking it back in as you drop the rough and it's pain in. Rear when you're doing it by yourself

Greetings from England you guys are awesome and I think your making the right decision, I've got a tiny Berlingo mpv and used a tent for extra space but in my 70s setting up the tent and worrying about the weather etc. was so tiring, I so miss my proper campervan , (lost the one in the picture to engine fire),no setting up, just raise the roof and ready to camp.All the best guys , will follow in your journey to next mobile abode God bless .

I saw you looked at a slide in truck camper. We have had a couple of these over the years and had one this summer. It was hard to take it on some of the narrow boon docking roads with the height and sway when the road was crooked. The one we had was wide and top heavy….no where for us to put our kayaks, not much garage space. It was comfortable. We have had many bumper pull trailers over the years and did our share of tent camping. You both are smart enough to figure it all out in time. We had a 29’ Winnebago motorhome and towed a Suzuki 4x4 vehicle behind to go to town. Enjoy your journey.
Hey guys, I'm glad you're thinking about a truck camper. Honestly given what you do and how often you camp (and the age of the Hummer), I think it would be ideal. Get a lifted truck so you can get where you want to go off road, 4x4, diesel so you don't have to worry about towing. Personally I would go with a used Ford over anything new, but that's just me. I think what you're saying makes a whole lot of sense and I don't blame you for looking to go for a camper rather than a tent. Just my thoughts, I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you do.

Thank you for sharing your highs and lows. My husband and I have been fulltime RVing for over 2 years now. Today in a small town someone got into the bed of our truck and stole our generator out of it. One of the things that’s helping us remembering how you guys handled it when your trailer was stolen. I enjoy watching the adventures. you guys don’t stay in one place long enough to enjoy it….seems to always be on a go. That’s when the burnout kicks in. Rv or tent, we enjoy the different scenery and hiking trails y’all share.

That's why we have an "IKamper" Roof Top Tent. We have the freedom to go anywhere we want and the set up and tear down is easy and takes about 4 minutes. It costed us $5,000 back in December of 2019 and we have been to the most amazing places. We are in our 60's and also shopping for a van buiild option for when we retire in a couple years.
I've been following your journey for some time now. Clearly you'll both will work thru this obstacle and move forward in a positive flow!!! The truck camper is a win win. This time hook yourself up with a real time tracking device. It sends data to your cell. I'd be doing the truck camper, but with my bad back, I can't climb above the cab. Burn out happens! We used to live in a van and it was a lot of work. We switched to a small travel trailer and it made life so much easier. Having your own shower inside is a game changer. Have you looked into the Black Series off roading campers or Four Wheeler truck campers? Both incredibly built campers. Check them out!
I agree with lots of the other comments. Burn out is natural and inevitable. Glad you’re considering alternatives that will permit a wider range of experiences. Keep posting your videos so we can keep up with what you’re doing and where you’re going.
I know it must be hard work but you two make it look so easy. There are a lot of great travel trailers out there designed with boondocking in mind. Whatever you two decide to do I'll be watching as long as your making videos.
Persevere… Each day you wake wherever you are… You are miracles… You are the producers of your film for that day… And I don’t mean TH-cam. I mean life. We love who you are because you do what you do. You journey. That is living.
For me, I would stay at least 5-14 days and not rush, unless the campground is not that great, just because the driving alone would wear me out. It's okay to make changes. You are adapting to your situations and know what you need to make your camping more functional and enjoyable.
I am glad you both are realistic about the drawbacks of continuing to camp as you do. I know you love to go to new places and experience the areas you visit but it is difficult if you have to move and locate a new camping spot every couple of days. So thumbs up to considering a change. I know between the two of you, you will take the needed time to feel out the best option for your future comfort, happiness and well being.
I think you should research a Vandoit van. I like the "LIV" model. You can get a 4-wheel drive van. You can use it mostly for sleeping, but there is plenty of storage too and you can do the basics inside if needed. You would be safe, secure, and warm for sleeping anywhere!
I totally agree with this thinking and believe that you would get way more sight seeing on the east coast with a new set up. Lots to see, but not the dispersed stuff you need. Can't wait for you all to find your way through VA and the Blue Ridge mountains. perfect late fall driving south. Cheers. T
I have been considering the truck camper for longer trips. I always tell people who go tent camping for the first time….it’s work with some relaxation. I just purchased a tent for my pickup truck. Truck camper for the win!!! We love ours. We are actually selling our 41’ 5th wheel because our Lance TC is much more flexibility. It is amazing how much can sit in the bed of a truck. 😉 Also, you could still pull your NoBo. Whatever you decide, have fun!!

I know at my age (61) and setting up tents for decades, solo, I will eventually want to stop putting up tents. For now, I have a canvas, long term, a 2 season and backpacking tents. Sometimes I don want to have a break and hotel it for a few days. We will see how much longer I will want to set up tents! I have time to consider many options. It was your truck camper that a RVer directed me to your site, when I mentioned one as an option for me. Tarp tape...great to know!
Also I highly recommend the north/south bed orientation, no crawling over your significant other when you have to get up at night. And as other have said make sure the truck can handle the weight of the camper. We have air bags in the rear suspension which work great at keeping the truck level and the suspension working properly. No trailers to worry about, with a little effort you can get your kayaks on top or even on the back of the camper with special racks, Get some solar for the roof to keep the battery(s) topped off and your good to go!
I would absolutely need a break in an AirBnB every few months as many times y’all put up and take that tent down.. LoL Y’all’s adventures are the best tho! Love following y’all!😊
Great fun honest video and chat. Having been an RV owner of 50 years I told my wife when you started full time I wouldn't be surprised if after 6/12 months yall convert to a Van or Slide in Truck Camper to GREATLY reduce alllllllllll that set up time and effort. Needs, travel and lifestyle change over the years and yours are evolving. The good thing about a slide in truck camper is you have the RV PLUS a Vehicle and especially if its 4 wheel drive (I strongly advise) you can remote boondock so much more or even pull off the side (Soooooooo many more locations available if driving with no tent required) for a nights sleep. You will likely do this anyway and its YOUR choice but Id (an Electrical Engineer) advise as much rooftop solar as the space allows COVER THAT ROOF LOL,,,,,,,,,As many Amp Hours of Lithium batteries you have the room for and budget allows,,,,,,,,,,Of course an MPPT controller and a combination PSW Inverter/Charger,,,,,,,,,,,,ALSO A DC to DC charger so when driving at night or in clouds or rain the trucks alternator can also charge your Lithiums. With all that you can get by without a generator. You can still pack up your pop up cover tents, kayaks, mountain bikes and backpacking BUT YOU NEED CREATIVE STORAGE METHODS !!!!!!!! I enjoy your adventures especially TWO videos per week keep them coming. Remember the Movie Nomadland, "Youre NOT homeless you're only houseless" great free lifestyle hope it works well for yall. ABSOLUTELY! I live in a van which is ok for me as a single but it would be way too tight for a couple. I have admired you living fulltime in a tent but can’t imagine the work of constant set up and tear down. Go for something bigger! I love your VLOGs.
Tent camping would work if y’all stayed at least a week or two at each location while thoroughly exploring new areas. Burnout was bound to happen with constant moving and all that setup. Have y’all considered a heavy duty tow behind camping trailer or possibly building out a U-Haul truck or something similar? Even a Class A or Class C would feel more like a home. One can usually get a great deal on a secondhand unit especially if buying directly from original owner. I’ve been full-time rv’ing now 23 years in a Class A and can’t imagine giving up my sense of freedom even at 70 yrs old. 🚌
I live in Arkansas and I enjoy following a few folks on you tube that travel in truck campers. I think the change to truck camper may be good for you guys, more comfortable and increase your subscribers. I enjoy a little cooking on videos but two meals a day I find myself skipping through a lot of your videos.

Been a tent camper most my life. Grandparents had a campsite up in the Poconos in PA every weekend & vacations. When my grandchildren came along I started taking them emmediatly to learn. I went from tent to pop-up tent. Got a area to stand up and dress. Cooking area, sink, and 2 double beds on either side . We go to campsites here in Virginia. Usually it cost tent site $45. 00 a weekend. They have bathhouse, laundromat, country store incase u need something, all kinds of outside activities, and u can rent a golf cart for the day if you aren't able to walk the hiking trail, ponds to fish, and beautiful sites to b in even larger rigs.
I’ve been wondering when burn-out would set in, but then ALL of us face burn-out. That’s why we take vacations, go for long walks, listen to music that soothes us or take time to just breathe. Burn-out happens and, while the image on this video has a rather hopeless air about it, one day at a time. The sun will set tonight and rise tomorrow, even still.

OMG, you’re in my neck of the woods. I live just north of Utica and just at the foothills of the ADK’s. I know the ADK’s and some of their campgrounds. My favorite campground is FishCreek Pond campgrounds. It’s right off of the Upper Saranac lake. Please reach out if you have any questions about the ADK’s. Lake Placid has some great history. The winter Olympics was hosted in LP back in the 80’s. The ski jumps are still active all year long with training. There’s high peaks everywhere. A certain 46 of them are the known to be the highest. When you climb all 46, you’re considered a 46’r.

We have our tent but also a camper shell on our Tundra 6' bed. Back seats in the cab roll up for another sleep space and the front seats recline down for a comfy place to chill or sleep. Got a tarp to put over it all as well. We looked at every RVish thing imaginable and decided to keep things simple. Tons of cool TH-cam vids re build outs for truck camping.

I know this is boring, but I like an uncrowded campground with a host. Less likely to get robbed. You have an authority to call on if there are unruly campers. You can tell the host you're going to be gone a while so keep an eye on our stuff
Campground hosts are underappreciated. I've met some really great ones - that's the majority of them.
So glad you took some time off to get some rest! I don’t even know how y’all do what you do. That’s a LOT of set up and tear down that could be spent doing your kayak camping and cold camping 🥶 Can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. We will be right there with you two!! I admire how long you have done tent camping this far. For all the effort it takes to set up and break it down. I started tent camping as a single mom when my son started boy scouts in second grade. scouts camped every other weekend. later when I got married , I even camped with scouts in a tent in a sleeping bag on the ground at 7 months pregnant with my second son with my husband and 1st son. Our family vacations were even tent camping. 9 days long trips. we had our tent, a screen tent over picnic table and a whole outdoor kitchen set up. We used Dutch oven a lot over fire pits. Then my third son came along and we still tent camped, even at a campground that what felt like a hurricane went thru at night. we had a blow up mattress and cots by this point and the blow up mattress was hovering above ground a couple inches. it broke poles off our tent and tore up our screen house. Believe it or not we still tent camped. lol. Then when my youngest son turned about 7 years old we turned to cabins, either rustic(no bathroom or kitchen) or full small house like cabins. I am now 52 years old and need 2 knee replacements. I still love the thought of tent camping and do miss it. But cabins are easier on me now. I think it was a span of about 17 years tent camping between scouts and family vacations. my first born is now 33 years old.

As I've gotten older, I've realized that tent camping is still fun, but sometimes...I want...a/c. -gasp- I know, the humanity. But sometimes, a few creatures comforts isn't bad. Doesn't mean you gotta go out and grab a 32 ft RV. But maybe something more secure, a little more comfy, as well as still versatile enough to keep the lifestyle you live. I 100% support whatever y'all decide. Just keep on keeping on . Love y'all.
I’ve been full-time for six years in a travel trailer I don’t know how you been in a tent as long as you have. I used to tent camp and that’s what prompted me to buy my first travel trailer I was really tired of sleeping on the ground per se and dealing with teardown set up and tear down. I think he would be making a wise decision to get a hard sided camper so much easier for travel and a lot safer overall. Wishing you lots of luck.❤

Hi guys.. what you're talking about is called "evolving".. The hubby and I started out in a tent and now we have a beautiful pull behind self sufficient travel trailer and a pick up camper like the one you looked at.. The pickup camper allows you to go so many more places that you are not able to go on foot. . Glad to see you're taking us on another chapter in your lives evolving is good it's what we do.. Kelly put your over landing seat belt on it's going to be a hell of a ride 😊

I have friends who have used a truck bed camper for horse camping for years. They love theirs and can pull the horse trailer behind it. Ya'll could still pull your trailer behind it for storage. Word of advice though...buy at least a 3/4 ton truck. You can never have too much truck!!! Something else to consider is to do your research on how much weight is on the truck...remember that ALL of the weight is sitting on the truck, whereas with a fifth wheel or bumper pull most of the weight is sitting on the trailer's axles and the truck is pulling it rather than carrying it. I ruined a 1/2 ton Ram pulling my horses in a bumper pull trailer before I finally found a good used F250 Diesel and gooseneck horse trailer. I got better gas mileage with the bigger truck and there was so little strain on the truck...it hauled beautifully. Don't be afraid to look "outside the box" and check out horse trailers with living quarters. They are sturdier and much better made than most campers. You can use the horse hauling part for storage, bicycles, etc.
You are going to LOVE the Adirondacks...so beautiful, but different than the Rockies. Ya'll are going to need at least a couple of weeks for just the Adirondacks. A good place to start is Blue Mountain Lake to visit the Museum and learn about the Adirondacks/geology/history/culture. Definitely going to need those kayaks because there are gorgeous lakes everywhere!!! I cannot wait to see your upcoming videos!
Ooooo, and Saratoga Springs it one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Reminds me of Hot Springs, but much grander. If the race track is still open, that is a must do! SPAC has an outdoor/amphitheater for live concerts. Tomorrow September, 18, Willie Nelson will be performing there!
Be sure to check out pizza places and OMG...the cheese shops!!! Vermont cheddar is AMAZING! Hoping while you are in that area, ya'll can see the White Mountains, Green Mountains and Berkshire Mountains as well. Must see Vermont, Massachusetts/Berkshire Mountains, Conneticut and Algonquin, Maine!
On your way back South you may want to check out the Poconos and Allegheny mountains in Pennsylvania. From there, it is a beautiful Interstate Drive thru Virginia down to the Smokey Mountains.
I think you would love a truck camper. We have an old one- when they still used wood, and we love it. No muss, no fuss. You can pull in, stay overnight with only one task- balancing the wheels so you are extra comfy. I do miss the fresher air of tent camping, but that is easily done if you are going to be in a place a little longer. Just throw your tent in the back seat of your truck. I have been a camper on and off for years. Tent, RV. RVs even brand new can have problems. But the the problems cost a lot more and its cheaper to camp. Just upgrade your tent camping supplies as you go and take a break once in a while. That’s my two cents have a great life❤️❤️😘 I’m a 71 year old women and now camp in the backyard. My husband sleeps in the house. I cook, campfire, and have a portable pottie. I love it. Camp on and enjoy yourself.
Burn out is real! I feel for you. I retired from teaching this year at age 55 after 25 years of teaching. Most teachers retire at 60 or 61. I couldn’t do it. Your tent burn out is something I felt too. As I got older tent camping got rough on my body. I bought an old Xfinity service van and built it into my weekend camper. - Holiday Tinn

R&R is so important! TH-cam is much more demanding than a lot of people realize and I'm so glad y'all took a few days off. I can more full time TH-camr's switching to a 'seasons' upload schedule which naturally adds in breaks and something to look forward to. Just like us corporate jockeys looking forward to vacation! we did the whole tent thing too, traveling through the Smokies etc......set up for a night than take down, set up and down........gets to you! AND like you said, it takes time. Sounds like a truck trailer, would work best for you. You can unload it and drive off, or just leave it on the truck. Perhaps for more room, look at truck campers with slide outs, gives you more room etc.......just make sure that you can get around the inside with the slide outs IN. Go to the Adirondacks High Peaks region. Boondocking is possible there.
Your videos and others inspired us to get a slide in truck camper. We even stayed in some of your favorite campsites in the Ouachita's and Ozarks! We purchased a 2021 Palomino SS550 pop up slide in camper to give us less wind resistance and clearance down forest highway roads. We highly recommend this type of vehicle and camper combination. We chose the SS 550 because it fit the 1/2 ton Ford F150 we owned. We just get in and go!

Our friends bought a truck camper and they absolutely love it. They are a lot roomier then I thought they would be. They have plenty of storage and are very happy they bought it. Just do what’s right for you.
If you’re in the high peaks area of the Adirondacks, some recommendations. Food: Ice Jam Inn, Old Mountain Coffee, and Enuf. Fishing: on the East or West branch of the Ausable or Bouquet River. Mountain biking in Wilmington.

There are a lot of truck bed campers out there. Find one that has the right layout for you, and go for it. Get a good 4wheel drive truck w/flatbed. Put a winch on it. Winch can be used many ways.

We remember burn out. I know you have a truck camper now. We purchased Clam 12 x 12 ft. Pop up easy set up. Traveled the country with it. Kept everything in our 2017 Dodge Caravan with seats that folded in the floor.
We were just in New York State back in May. We loved it. Going back next summer. The weather was perfect. Unfortunately it was raining on our second day of the Adirondacks. We bought our camper up there. It is a Sunline. The company was based in Pennsylvania and went out of business in 2008. I believe they began making truck campers. I think that a truck camper would be great for a couple. I am excited for you guys.
My husband and I follow your vlog and enjoy it so much. It is completely understandable to want to evolve and change up to meet your needs and we wish you luck finding the vehicle that best fits. We live in Rochester and just finished (well almost) building out a van. We’ll be weekenders for awhile but hoping to get to more extended trips in the next few years. I hope you enjoyed our hometown. There is so much to see and do, but recognize you all were on a rest stop over! We have the BEST public farmers market that you would love if you are ever back on a Saturday. It’s one of the oldest in the country and has everything for food and cooking lovers!! Have so much fun in the ADKs, another one of our most favorite areas. Not sure where you are going but we love Brown Tract Pond. Primitive camping but a wonderful lake, kayaking, fishing and an island to paddle out to and jump off rocks. Just beautiful and serene. The nearby town of Inlet is cool too. Small, not as busy as Old Forge. So many other camps and towns I could go on forever! Welcome to NY and enjoy your time in our beautiful state!!
Hey guys my wife and I really enjoy your videos just wanted to make a suggestion I would get a camper shell for your truck and then get a pull behind camper you can drop and boot the camper and just drive anywhere without the camper on the truck hope you enjoy
That's how I feel about the pop-up camper that I bought. You always have to pull out the end's bedrooms. An annual purge away. You have to go around in about 3 times tucking it back in as you drop the rough and it's pain in.

Greetings from England you guys are awesome and I think your making the right decision, I've got a tiny Berlingo mpv and used a tent for extra space but in my 70s setting up the tent and worrying about the weather etc. was so tiring, I so miss my proper campervan , (lost the one in the picture to engine fire),no setting up, just raise the roof and ready to camp.All the best guys , will follow in your journey to next mobile abode God bless .

I saw you looked at a slide in truck camper. We have had a couple of these over the years and had one this summer. It was hard to take it on some of the narrow boon docking roads with the height and sway when the road was crooked. The one we had was wide and top heavy….no where for us to put our kayaks, not much garage space. It was comfortable. We have had many bumper pull trailers over the years and did our share of tent camping. You both are smart enough to figure it all out in time. We had a 29’ Winnebago motorhome and towed a Suzuki 4x4 vehicle behind to go to town. Enjoy your journey.

Hey guys, I'm glad you're thinking about a truck camper. Honestly given what you do and how often you camp (and the age of the Hummer), I think it would be ideal. Get a lifted truck so you can get where you want to go off road, 4x4, diesel so you don't have to worry about towing. Personally I would go with a used Ford over anything new, but that's just me. I think what you're saying makes a whole lot of sense and I don't blame you for looking to go for a camper rather than a tent. Just my thoughts, I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you do.

Thank you for sharing your highs and lows. My husband and I have been fulltime RVing for over 2 years now. Today in a small town someone got into the bed of our truck and stole our generator out of it. One of the things that’s helping us remembering how you guys handled it when your trailer was stolen. I enjoy watching the adventures. you guys don’t stay in one place long enough to enjoy it….seems to always be on a go. That’s when the burnout kicks in. Rv or tent, we enjoy the different scenery and hiking trails y’all share.

That's why we have an "IKamper" Roof Top Tent. We have the freedom to go anywhere we want and the set up and tear down is easy and takes about 4 minutes. It costed us $5,000 back in December of 2019 and we have been to the most amazing places. We are in our 60's and also shopping for a van buiild option for when we retire in a couple years.

This time hook yourself up with a real time tracking device. It sends data to your cell. I'd be doing the truck camper, but with my bad back, I can't climb above the cab. Burn out happens! We used to live in a van and it was a lot of work. We switched to a small travel trailer and it made life so much easier. Having your own shower inside is a game changer. Have you looked into the Black Series off roading campers or Four Wheeler truck campers? Both incredibly built campers. Check them out!
But so pricy... Those are my dream campers, but... Oh so pricy.
I agree with lots of the other comments. Burn out is natural and inevitable. Glad you’re considering alternatives that will permit a wider range of experiences. Keep posting your videos so we can keep up with what you’re doing and where you’re going.
I know it must be hard work but you two make it look so easy. There are a lot of great travel trailers out there designed with boondocking in mind. Whatever you two decide to do I'll be watching as long as your making videos.
Persevere… Each day you wake wherever you are… You are miracles… You are the producers of your film for that day… And I don’t mean TH-cam. I mean life. We love who you are because you do what you do. You journey. That is living.

For me, I would stay at least 5-14 days and not rush, unless the campground is not that great, just because the driving alone would wear me out. It's okay to make changes. You are adapting to your situations and know what you need to make your camping more functional and enjoyable.
I am glad you both are realistic about the drawbacks of continuing to camp as you do. I know you love to go to new places and experience the areas you visit but it is difficult if you have to move and locate a new camping spot every couple of days. So thumbs up to considering a change. I know between the two of you, you will take the needed time to feel out the best option for your future comfort, happiness and well being.
I think you should research a Vandoit van. I like the "LIV" model. You can get a 4-wheel drive van. You can use it mostly for sleeping, but there is plenty of storage too and you can do the basics inside if needed. You would be safe, secure, and warm for sleeping anywhere!
I totally agree with this thinking and believe that you would get way more sight seeing on the east coast with a new set up. Lots to see, but not the dispersed stuff you need. Can't wait for you all to find your way through VA and the Blue Ridge mountains. perfect late fall driving south. Cheers. T
I have been considering the truck camper for longer trips. I always tell people who go tent camping for the first time….it’s work with some relaxation. I just purchased a tent for my pickup truck. Truck camper for the win!!! We love ours. We are actually selling our 41’ 5th wheel because our Lance TC is much more flexibility. It is amazing how much can sit in the bed of a truck. 😉 Also, you could still pull your NoBo. Whatever you decide, have fun!!

I know at my age (61) and setting up tents for decades, solo, I will eventually want to stop putting up tents. For now, I have a canvas, long term, a 2 season and backpacking tents. Sometimes I don want to have a break and hotel it for a few days. We will see how much longer I will want to set up tents! I have time to consider many options. It was your truck camper that a RVer directed me to your site, when I mentioned one as an option for me. Tarp tape...great to know!

Also I highly recommend the north/south bed orientation, no crawling over your significant other when you have to get up at night. And as other have said make sure the truck can handle the weight of the camper. We have air bags in the rear suspension which work great at keeping the truck level and the suspension working properly. No trailers to worry about, with a little effort you can get your kayaks on top or even on the back of the camper with special racks, Get some solar for the roof to keep the battery(s) topped off and your good to go!
I would absolutely need a break in an AirBnB every few months as many times y’all put up and take that tent down.. LoL Y’all’s adventures are the best tho! Love following y’all!😊
Great fun honest video and chat. Having been an RV owner of 50 years I told my wife when you started full time I wouldn't be surprised if after 6/12 months yall convert to a Van or Slide in Truck Camper to GREATLY reduce alllllllllll that set up time and effort. Needs, travel and lifestyle change over the years and yours are evolving. The good thing about a slide in truck camper is you have the RV PLUS a Vehicle and especially if its 4 wheel drive (I strongly advise) you can remote boondock so much more or even pull off the side (Soooooooo many more locations available if driving with no tent required) for a nights sleep.
You will likely do this anyway and its YOUR choice but Id (an Electrical Engineer) advise as much rooftop solar as the space allows COVER THAT ROOF LOL,,,,,,,,,As many Amp Hours of Lithium batteries you have the room for and budget allows,,,,,,,,,,Of course an MPPT controller and a combination PSW Inverter/Charger,,,,,,,,,,,,ALSO A DC to DC charger so when driving at night or in clouds or rain the trucks alternator can also charge your Lithiums. With all that you can get by without a generator. You can still pack up your pop up cover tents, kayaks, mountain bikes and backpacking BUT YOU NEED CREATIVE STORAGE METHODS !!!!!!!!

ABSOLUTELY! I live in a van which is ok for me as a single but it would be way too tight for a couple. I have admired you living fulltime in a tent but can’t imagine the work of constant set up and tear down. Go for something bigger! I love your VLOGs.
You sound like new parents debating on a minivan “we just want to look” haha. But for reals, I appreciate your honesty and watching your journey.
Tent camping would work if y’all stayed at least a week or two at each location while thoroughly exploring new areas. Burnout was bound to happen with constant moving and all that setup. Have y’all considered a heavy duty tow behind camping trailer or possibly building out a U-Haul truck or something similar? Even a Class A or Class C would feel more like a home. One can usually get a great deal on a secondhand unit especially if buying directly from original owner. I’ve been full-time rv’ing now 23 years in a Class A and can’t imagine giving up my sense of freedom even at 70 yrs old. 🚌
I live in Arkansas and I enjoy following a few folks on you tube that travel in truck campers. I think the change to truck camper may be good for you guys, more comfortable and increase your subscribers. I enjoy a little cooking on videos but two meals a day I find myself skipping through a lot of your videos.
I often say that vacationing is work. Especiallly roughing it. Glad you are trying it though. Nice to watch Kellie cook.
