  • This video is a 40 minute How To tutorial explaining how NOT to get ripped off by auto repair shops when you need your low beam (or other) headlight replaced. This video covers EVERYTHING you might need to know (parts, numbers, cost, tools, how to, tips, tricks, etc.) about replacing the LOW BEAM bulbs in an example 2008 Cadillac SRX AWD with 4.6L NorthStar V8 engine. The same info generally applies to a wide range of model year, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, SRXs, CTSs, etc. It is a long video, but well worth watching with many tips and plenty of information on how to get the job done for under $100 while saving from $200 to as much as $600 (depending on which repair shop you might decide to use and how many bulbs you decide to replace at one time).
    We hope these videos are both educational and enjoyable in nature for all our viewers and subscribers. Please, grab yourself a cup of java and enjoy the coffee!!

      +James Young Thanks for the positive feedback James. I'm surprised how many people seem to be watching this video. Must be a lot of folks with headlights going south who don't want to pay through the nose to replace them. Say hi to your daughter for me too. ;^)

    Thank you this video was great. I refuse to pay the dealer for something I can do myself with time, the correct tools, and a little patience.

    VERY helpful video. Just changed 8 bulbs on the front of my 08 SRX in about 3 hours. This video contains a lot of helpful hints and is worth the nearly 40 minutes run-time. Thank you for making this video.

    I was able to change mine by removing the fuse box lid on the driver side and taking the air box out on the passenger side. 3 torx bolts. Took about 5min

      Better late than never with this reply. Guess that goes to show you there's more than one way to skin a cat. And, don't believe everything some yahoo (a.k.a. me) on TH-cam cooks up for you to watch. Wish you would have told me that before I went through all this trouble... and before I finally shelled out for an XT5 eventually also. LOL. ;^)

    Good job and good video, but I didn't remove the headlight assembly. I jacked up the front end, removed the wheel and the plastic fender well. Took out the torx screws and replaced the bulbs while still on the car. Took a little over a half hour. The next time I needed to do the other side, I told my mechanic how to do it because I had a broken leg. Of course, he took off the bumper, replaced the bulb and charged me 260 bucks. sigh

    BTW, my assembly or the lens has moisture. I found out to replace the assembly alone is upwards of $1100, so I'm opting to just replace the bulb for now. I can get it from the junkyard for around $700 but right now it's out of my league. This is my first bulb replacement and the car is 12 years old. So I'm not complaining. Thanks again

    Great video. Thanks. I replaced my hid bulbs with led and it looks great. I'm not worried about changing bulbs again. Never. Oh and I did not have to go under the car to take out the plastic pins. It was super easy. Thanks again

    Very well done. Since there are so many people who end up replacing these bulbs over and over again (sometimes within days or weeks), would you recommend possibly replacing the whole assembly?

    • @tmi-america7615
      @tmi-america7615  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Jensen Not sure. The headlight enclosures do age and start looking bad over time. I saw one which had water trapped inside, for example. So, that might factor into the decision. But, from a cost benefit point of view, one would have to locate a supplier who does not gouge you on the price of the entire assembly vs. the cost of whatever bulb(s) may be needed to fix a burned out bulb(s), and it would be hard to tell what quality of bulbs might be supplied with the replacement enclosure (if any) as a total package. It took me a while to research suppliers and decide which bulbs were factory quality vs. some knock offs from Asia which might not last long, etc. So, buyer be ware.

    Do the other 2 bulbs in the headlamp have part numbers? I need to replace them.

      It is possible when they removed the grill and/or lights they damaged the wiring in the process and there is now a short somewhere; one thing I do mention to be careful about in the video. You are correct that their comments about replacing "the whole frame" (whatever that means) are bogus alright. If you decide to do it yourself take a little extra time/care and also double check the wire harnesses and connections before putting everything back together again. Also check the parts source I provide in the video and try to call them for advice on which type of bulbs your car may need via the VIN number. Hopefully the shop you went to did not replace the bulbs using the wrong type of bulbs (Halogen vs high intensity discharge (HID) or visa versa) as I talk about in the first couple minutes as well. Another good reason to DIY is you can personally make sure the new bulbs match the old ones and that you are getting OEM replacement quality vs. some cheep knockoffs from Asia, of which there are many which will not last long, as in your case. You can also test that the lights are all working before buttoning things up. Good luck.

      +TMI-America.com We as professionals spend a great deal of time and money on training and tools to do a job. It's a investment like any other business and therefore get compensated for said job. Let's just be educated on what services we are looking for and shop around to justify the asking price of the services rendered.

      @tmi-america7615  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jon Oppel I agree. Getting one's foot into the service repair door is not for the faint of heart and not easy or inexpensive either. My racing team would not have won a single race w/o a few good professionals in the auto repair field helping out once in a while.

      +Jammin Dave Yes. There are tools for nearly everything. Most folks don't own them though. Thus the reason I used some Yankee ingenuity instead. ;^)

    great video sir, I was hoping you would give a shot of your ballast. I have a 2004 srx, when I bought it I had a problem with my lights and took it to a shop to get fixed. it was working fine for a bit although one light was brighter than the other. then my passenger side would blink and go on and off. I left it like that because I really didn't want to go back to those people. I recently got into a fender bender and am rebuilding my front end, I took the lights off and these people butchered my lights and I never even knew it. the split wires and put a different ballast on one and the other I'm not sure what they did. I'd like to put everything originall, but when I look online it looks like some people have lad5g and other people have lad5gl. would you happen to remember which one you have? would you kindly email me the answer? hjasencio@gmail.com, if your knowledgeable about the hid I would love to pic your brain. thanks in advance sir
