That looks like a nice, secluded area to spend a few days. My best first lake experience was Lake Osakis. Drilled one set of holes and put up the ice house and didn't have to move once. The worst was Lake Francis Case on the Missouri River in South Dakota. I massively underestimated the differences between the Missouri and Mississippi. Throw in those Dakota winds and it wasn't good.
I drive by here every yr on my way homeon leave ti fish the upper peninsula for smallies. Wind is always to bad but it is on my list. Hopefully this yr. Usually im coming thru there 2nd or 3rd week of may
I'll admit even after doing research for new bodies of water I find myself feeling a little overwhelmed having to hatch a plan of attack best suited to the current situations. I would also mention my choices of words after losing a unidentified drag burner are much different...😖
It's fun trying new waters. Sometimes you catch them and sometimes not but you always leave a little bit more educated. It's never easy losing a big fish especially when you don't get to see what it was.
Thanks Lance! Did you launch in Ashland? When were you there? What was water temperature? Were the smallies spawning? It is on my list of destinations to try next June! Thanks again, Dave
I launched just up the shore from Ashland. There is a nice public launch. It was May 21st I believe and the water was in the upper 50s. I believe the fish were still prespawn but some may have been spawning.
Great video Love those Smallies
Nice....might go in June....from Chicago
June is a great time to try.
That red and white fluke is $$$😊
Indeed!
Been there once, need to get back. Great option after the Miss walleye run.

I lived up north for five years. I am familiar with those Dakota winds you speak of; they are no joke. Thanks for sharing.
I went to Ashland a couple years ago for a vacation with the wife and wished I would’ve brought the poles, wife said no😆
My wife would have been mad I didn't bring the poles.
I never leave without my fishing gear...it was in the wedding vows.

Mid may should be a great time to give it a shot
