  • The late 60's and early '70's were a time of tremendous upheaval in American culture as the hippie generation abandoned the values of their parents, turned to drugs and away from materialism, and went on a search for love and peace.
It was out of this tumultuous era that young, musical voices began to surface. These newly converted musicians began singing about the new hope they had found through Jesus Christ.
Matthew Ward was one of these young voices. Go behind the scenes with him to look at this exciting era in this clip from, "First Love".

We were in the Ministry in Texas. My Mom had just died. My Church was treating us badly. We heard them "Lillies of the Field", so so powerful the ministry of Spirit of Lord to touch, let the tears flow, and bring the healing! Thank You brother & sisters!

Iv'e always said that Matthew Ward has one of the most controlled voices in both Christian and secular music, and even in a sitting position. Man can this guy sing. I saw 2nd chapter in the mid 80's right after I got saved. The most inspiring vocalists ever. Thanks so much for the video.

The 2nd Chapter of Acts were one of my MAINSTAYS in the earlier years of my Christian journey. What a gift they were to ME and to the Body of Christ. During the 80s through the mid-90s they were among my favorite!... Matthew Ward, I thought, was always an incredible tenor with such a unique voice as well... a milestone in Christian music!

Very natural and down to earth. He doesn't come across as an idealistic fanatic. When I was a kid, I used to think his voice reminded me of Stevie Wonder's voice. Great singer. Great testimony. Great attitude. Talks about Jesus but in a very matter of fact way. I really love it when Christians do that. Too many people try to make Christians look wacky. Matthew Ward isn't "wacky" at all.

I never got to finish watching this video before and find it amazing that Matthew's voice can sound so great ...while sitting with his legs crossed. He always makes it seem so effortless.

One of the finest voices in popular music. A truly talented vocalist as well as writer.
She sang well until the end of her live, and how unfortunate that she has left us by no self destructive means of her own. Fly with the angels.

While you are on this channel please find & watch documentaries on Keith's Life.
Here is why I say that: Keith was best friends with the group members of the 2nd Chapter of Acts, including Matthew Ward.
"I would have to say, if it wasn't for the loving & giving heart of Keith Green, I probably would not have become a believer and remained "the course" even through today. I led my brother to the Lord and he and I have led nearly 25 members of our extended family to Christ. I even have two boys who have become full-time ministers of the Gospel of Christ. (Keith would be proud)
I have studied under many significant ministries, leaders, preachers, churches, in several denominations, but, sad to say, I have had to renounce many their influences from my life for many of them have fallen away from Christ Himself and His solid and simple teachings.
Keith Green was that prophet that had caused myself and many to be single-focused in my walk with Christ and to seek to be planted in quality soil in order to produce fruit."

How about the verse, 'Judge not lest ye be judged...'
When did Christianity stop being about forgiveness and become all about perfection in performance?
Are you so sin-free, so without blame, so self-righteous?
There but for the Grace of God go I...
If you have issue with him or his actions unbecoming loving kindness, it is then when he needs your prayer not your criticism nor condemnation.
Perhaps an apology is due, have you asked this of him?
Bitterness sours the heart of the beholder.
