Roman Szmal paints are lovely! I'd rearrange the whole palette - I need colours to be in order, haha! I was very curious about October 2023 so I'm very happy you swatched that one out. 😊 I love your sketchbook paintings too!
I'd be excited too. Fantastic choice of colors. The greens will haunt my dreams.I am very jealous. Loving your journal and how much fun you're having. You deserved a big break. Isn't humidity fun! That;s my life here in so GA.
Your timing for posting was wonderful. I had an Icky day. Thank you. Cheers 🥂 FYI if you skip the insert and put them in the opposite direction I think you can fit in a couple more pans. Editing while watching. Thanks for the score tape trick! I can’t write that small anymore. I have taken chunks of some RS’s (and ProdigalSuns ;-) when soft and put in small pans. I was able to scrape a full RS pan into one of those wells, for aesthetic purposes, of course, lol. Separately I spilled a pan of PS gamboge onto a palette by accident and have to move it. Last I’ve been giving my swatches a second coat. The difference is surprising. Thanks again. You made my day!u 😂🥂
My packages from Jackson's are always shipped from the UK! Although now they have a warehouse in the US. But when I combine the right things and amount I can often get the shipping down to a couple bucks, less than from places in the USA!?! Of course that's only true for small things -- w/c pencils, crayons, paint -- but not if you put sketchbooks in there!
Great video. Your cheerful enthusiasm is contagious, and the paintings turned out well. The RS paint colors are impressive! Great subjects to paint, too. Anyway, it all looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing! 😊
I never knew there can be wax from that wax paper on top of the watercolor paints themselves, would’ve guessed that’s compact enough to not leave any residue but it doesn’t have to be much to interfere of course. So thanks for that, that’s good to know. Also, I would normally rearrange the colors but in this case, if I had made such a nice mixing chart, I think I would have left it as is and rearranged the new colors as best as possible. With the thought to one day rearrange everything when I’m feeling well enough to make a new mixing chart (unless I had never used it) Love the colors!
It was a little bit hard to lose the mixing chart, but in reality I never looked at it except for appreciating how pretty it was, lol. And now it seems like I'm going to have to redo it again because I bought a few new colors. Darn it.
Love all the colors! I am enjoying your videos of your travels. I haven't been able to finish an art travel journal yet. I get hehind while I'm away then lose interest when I get back. QUESTION: where did you find that palette? I've been looking for it since you first showed it. I think it would be perfect for my granulating colors. tfs.
Yeah, I'm really far behind right now. But I'm determined to finish it! I think I have a working link to the palette, so I'll look when I get internet on my computer again and get back to you. It could be several days. Thanks!
I mist say seeing you swatch without salt is unusual 😅 I loove velvet black! It's such an unusual shade I love it so much 🥰 the rocks paintings were so fun espacially after you added the illustrations on them 😊
Hi Miranda! Beautiful Roman Szmal watercolor palette! I got a set for Christmas and absolutely love them! Your journaling is fabulous-thank you so much for sharing your journey. :)
Hi Miranda very relaxing video. Thank you for sharing your vacation. What palette is that you are using? Did it come with the metal insert like that? I have never seen one like that but it looks like a layout that would be very useful. Was there a video in which you discussed this palette? or filled it for your trip?
Hi, Sandra! I did find a link for the palette in one of my previous videos. I'll try to dig it up when I get service on my computer again. They now make it with a plastic insert instead of metal, but it's still pretty great!
I enjoyed your paintings in your journals. It’s a lovely way to remember places. ❤ EDIT I just realized you used your folding journal. I’ve forgotten how to spell the specific word!
I have that problem with my Roman Szmals all the time the waxy top don’t think it has anything to do with humidity i live in Colorado too. I also lived in Arizona 13 years and it’s humid half the year down there starting monsoon season.
Maybe more to do with heat. They were in my studio for at least a month before I brought them with me. I knew the weather could be changing a lot in the Flagstaff area, but it surprised me in the area I was in. I also don't know that much about Arizona, so I have a lot to learn!
Hi Miranda. Thanks for the heads up on the wax film, I thought I got a dud pan :) any ideas on removing the wax? I can’t believe it never occurred to me that it was wax from the paper. Enjoying your trip, thanks for sharing your journaling. Beautiful photos. How weird it being damp in Arizona bet you never expected that!
Hi there! For the wax, I just keep going over it with a synthetic brush until it goes away. Hopefully that works for you! Yeah, the rain and humidity was so strange, lol. Thanks! 😊
Just realized I wasn’t subscribed yet 🤯 I really thought I had 😅 been watching several of your videos these last days and enjoyed them but had to put my cat to sleep yesterday and knew it was coming dor about a week so it was a hard, devastating week but simultaneously the best time I had with her, she has always been very dependent on me but lately it was every minute she could be with me, she was. So at least I was able to have some quality time with her before she was gone. But for her, it was time, if I had prolonged it, it wouldn’t have been in her best interest so that makes us able to go through with euthanasia, doesn’t it I still have her sister but still, seeing your pets was a nice bonus. I particularly loved the lake view but the page with those rocks was beautiful as well, the story behind the rocks was definitely fascinating! But aside for my favorites, they were all beautiful. And even though I have enough paint, I have to confess I did save the colors you have in your palette because I definitely want most of those as well
Just a FYI. They are not rock "paintings", they are petroglyphs. The images have been carved into the rock, not painted on. If they had been "painted" they would be called "pictographs" where plants and minerals were ground up and mixed with liquids and then applied with sticks, fingers, or hands. Very few pictographs have survived the elements over time. Petroglyphs are much more common and that is what those were. A general term, which can apply to both is "rock art"
Yes, I kept wanting to call them petroglyphs,, but I was afraid THAT would be the wrong term, so I played it "safe" and called them by other names and turns out that was wrong, too, lol. I do appreciate you taking the time to differentiate between the various images and methods - thank you! They are spectacular 😍 ✨️

Yes, I knew it would drive me crazy in the long run if I didn't rearrange them, lol.
I love Autumn green! I got it on a lark, and it's become a fast favorite.
Isn't it great? ❤️

The animals are so cute! I too love your day 7 painting. But, they are all good.
Thanks so much 😊
Oooh Aquarius Orange 👍🏻
Right?
I'd be excited too. Fantastic choice of colors. The greens will haunt my dreams.I am very jealous. Loving your journal and how much fun you're having. You deserved a big break. Isn't humidity fun! That;s my life here in so GA.
The greens are so pretty! Yeah, humidity is great for the skin but not so much for the paint! ❤️
Your timing for posting was wonderful. I had an Icky day. Thank you. Cheers 🥂

Yeah, I'm slowly getting tired of salt on my little swatches. It's still fun on big ones, though! 😁
Hi Miranda! Beautiful Roman Szmal watercolor palette! I got a set for Christmas and absolutely love them! Your journaling is fabulous-thank you so much for sharing your journey. :)
Aw, thanks Doreen! These are delightful paints, aren't they?
For sure, amazing!

Oh yeah, the accordion one. 🪗 I really wanted to put it to good use, and this seemed like a plan. 😉
@@MirandaWatsonArt I was thinking of a concertina, but accordion will do! 😅

lol everyone thinks Arizona is hot and dry!! Only half of the year. And the rain this year has already been nuts.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try with a stiffer brush if that doesn’t work I’ll try scraping with a knife. @@MirandaWatsonArt
