I went to this mall growing up in the 80's, and watched it transform multiple times- had 3 remodels in its lifetime which helps keep it fresh. There are a couple things playing in its factor that most other malls in the St Louis region don't have. First, it's right off an interstate (64) with very easy access for the region (Metro East of St Louis). Another thing that plays into it is that the Metro East, an area of 700,000 (roughly 1/4 of the entire St Louis area), is that there are no other malls to compete with it. The next closest is up in Alton, and it's hard to get to, since it's a badly designed area. Fairview was setup perfectly with this mall being at the intersection of two high traffic highways (50 and 159), and meet right at the mall whose other side is the interstate. It's going to outlast probably every mall in St Louis, except maybe West County Center who is also right off an interstate, and also in a better situated location like this one.
I have to agree. St Clair Square, West County and Frontenac is probably the most successful malls in the St Louis. The Galleria is doing good but it’s in a sketchy area.
It's amazing I am from Ontario Canada and it's amazing just how similar our malls are considering we are in 2 different countries but even with that being said on how similar they are its also amazing how different they are also, new subscriber here.. amazing tour of the mall thank you for sharing
my local mall! Yeah, it's got a few spots empty, but compared to most malls today this is a thriving mall! It helps that it's literally the last mall for the Metro East, and most don't want to drive over to St Louis to go to a mall.
It's actually quite crowded around Christmas time. I think the problem is most stores don't want to be associated with malls anymore as they're considered obsolete. In 2023, people don't like having to leave their homes and prefer shopping online.@@jamesdavis5096
This is one of my local malls! It’s a favorite of mine. The Macy’s store is amazing! Famous Barr was fantastic!

5:00 (sigh) Goodbye RadioShack (left of the closed Sears). Both locations were outstanding, Sears and RadioShack
