I feel so old, Savannah Lions and Serra Angel at C, minus and plus. I remember the heady days when these were a couple of the best creatures in the game xD
To be fair Savannah Lions was never an insane Limited card -- just a solid one. It's only good when you can pack 4 of them in 60-card formats. The Angel though, yeah -- she's fallen off a whole lot.
@@NizzahonMagic I do find it neat for nostalgia purposes and kind of clever that they reprinted in them in a set that make their creature types actually relevant. and I guess they're still solidly playable in limited even without type synergies. 2 power 1 drop is no joke - if you have no other 1 drops or tap lands - it effectively costs 0 mana as you could not use the 1 mana available at turn one on anything at all.. and it's likely to have one or more good attacks that either do damage or trade. About the Serra Angel I'm not so sure of tho. "Dies to removal" ..
@@RENEG4DE4NGEL Kind of... A creature properly "dies to removal" if it can be removed easily for less mana that it cost and it does not leave give you any value in that case... Serra Angel definitely does.. Savannah lion does not - unless it get's hit by something like Rat Out you're not behind in tempo or value. Novice Inspector very much does not.
White has so many great commons, has so many themes interacting seamlessly with another (life gain, counters), and probably has the best support tribe (cats). I'm guessing it's gonna be the strongest color by a significant margin this Limited format.
The best part about such a simple set is that it's not difficult for the designers to create cross-archetype synergies. I'm so happy for how easy it is to see those synergies in full force starting with white.
Those angels makes me happy ^_^ and the Youthgul Valkyrie reprint is FANTASTIC: I hated paying 8€ for each of the 2 copies, now it gets more accessible :D
It's too late for this set, but I'd really appreciate if these reviews were ordered by rarity. Not because I don't listen to the rares, but because I want to get my head into what I'll see the most first.
Predicting it now... "Cards I got wrong: Valkyrie's Call." 5 mana do nothing enchantments don't end up as bombs often in limited. Obviously this card has a ton of upside and will feel like a bomb in the right scenario. But it's going to be a dead draw in a lot of situations too.
@svankensen i feel like there are enough tokens and angels in the format that, on top of being behind, just make this card way too inconsistent to be a bomb.
I see it as a strong commander card, as it essentially gives you sweeper protection. I will likely slot this in my Rick, Steadfast Leader deck. What's better than a wall of +2/+2 vigilance first strike? Having a board wipe get me a wall of +3/+3 vigilance first strike and FLYING.
Hare apparent is my favorite card in all of foundations lol. I know it's common, but i feel like it will end up getting to like $3+ 😭 but i want like two commander decks with like 40 copies in each. Baylen is a great commander for them, and then the green enchantment +10/+10 to each creature, mirror march/flameshadow conjuring, and obviously any token doublers go wild with it. Zinnia also would be a great commander for them giving each one offspring.
You pronounced Giada correctly. That makes me so happy, because I have a Giada deck and most people mispronounce her name. It's a real female Italian name, so I've heard it pronounced in the real world.
I think forgot to mention Regal Caracal, the 3/3 cat with lord effects from Amonkhet, wasn't it also reprinted in the main set? What grade would you give it?
I disagree with authority of The consuls. I remember playing against this card and it was a nightmare, having to overthink my attacks, because i could nie provide new blocker. This card is especially good against aggro token decks, since you do get a good amount of life and turn off haste. It is true, that it sucks as a topdeck in The later stage of The game, so it won‘t be b Level. But I do think ist is c, maybe c-.
Hare apparent is a flavor fail. A defining feature of an heir apparent is that there should only be one of them. Having more leads to nasty things like wars of succession. It's like they just stopped at, "This is funny because these two things sound the same," and decided to give no more depth to the pun. Or am I missing something?
The way I handle it is by only playing cube, lol 😂. At best, there are 2-3 cards I want from each set, and it's always better to just buy singles anyway.
Why not? It's a better version of Generous Gift. Any non-land card on the battlefield that's breaking the game goes bye-bye. Creature, enchantment, artifact, equipment, aura, battle, planeswalker.....whatever is the heart of their combo dies at instant speed. That's worth 3 mana.
@@NizzahonMagic I'd say it's overrated compared to some of the other uncommons that are Bs in the set. If it produced even one token on it's own without sinking mana into eating a food I'd rate it a B.
@@justinb2824 If you look at it as a 5-mana 3/2 that gains you 3 life and makes a 1/1, we're talking about a C+ -- and it has significant upside beyond that.
In Limited it's an F, yes. Because It does nothing to help you win the game. It just "slows" (not many Hasty creatures also) your opponent but in a lot of sittuations is useless
@@bobboberson6664 It's waaaay too situational in limited and is barely even good on turn 1. Just because it's good in constructed formats, doesn't make it good in limited.

15:22, Raise the Past combined with 10:51 Hare Apparent and 15:38 Skynight Squire seems hilarious!
Sounds like a fun jank deck :-)
Raise the Past *is* pretty funny if you're in that Hare Apparent deck, though.
Yessssss, I am there for the cat lady card. Will be perfect in my Mono-White cube that runs a light dogs and cats tribal theme. ❤

This feels like a nice balance of strong and ok, playable white cards. Nothing CRAZY over the top but nothing boring or slow like white's past.

Crystal barricade will definitely go well in a defender deck in commander.
23:49 The only color pair you didn't mention for the hawk is Boros... the deck it was dominant in last time 😂

Its collector number is 579, which is above the bounds for the cards included in play boosters
It's an A, but it's not in play boosters.
Ooh so standard legal, but it can only be found in outside products like the starter kit. A bit confusing but makes sense i guess😅
There are much better options for the same cost or less that don’t leave something behind
look at all those b- commons lol white looks stacked
White seems head and shoulders above the other colors in this set, kinda concerning tbh 😅

It was awful in Kaladesh draft according to my experience and the data we have -- it just doesn't do enough in Limited to be worth a card.
