    I just bought one, it arrives tomorrow. It’s my 4th Yaesu radio. It’s far superior to the 7300 at a lesser price.

      I got my 710 mainly because of the price and the receiver sensitivity. It was on deep sale at Ham radio outlet for 9444 for the AES version. I highly recommend the extra speaker even though it's an extra hundred bucks. Or you could almost put any other speaker you like there, but it needs the extra speaker. I was looking at the 9918 I figured out that it's better to have separate radios for different bands.

    I bought one a month ago, what a nice radio! I own a 7300 and a 9700. I also bought a 101d when it was on sale. ICOM did not budge on their 7610 during black Friday, so it wasnt even a hard choice saving almost 800 + dollars on the 101 over the 7610.

    I know I'm late to the conversation, but my wife got me this radio for Christmas. As a "value" purchase, it is an excellent choice and one I'd recommend even if it is sitting next to pricier and fancier rigs. People keep complaining about the menus versus Icom, but I don't mind. Functions very much like the x6100 which I use for QRP these days. However, the ears are unlike any of my other radios. It make me want to figure out a transportation solution to do picnic table POTA.

    The percentage is backwards. 77% will buy one. The 710 has a higher EHAM rating than the FTdx10. I had the 10, sold it & then bought the 710. The 710 is a keeper and best value out there today.

    I’ll be a sucker for one… a competitor for the 7300? Gee, an all band, all mode replacement for the 857 would have excited me more! Still, for mine, my FTDX 10 is mildly an ergonomic fail with the location of the band button and no back-lit buttons.

    There isn't such a thing as a USB-A-to-USB-A cable. That is why printers have USB-B cables; you connect the A side on the PC and the B side on the peripheral. In this case, the radio is the peripheral to the PC, so it gets a USB-B port. The USB-A port on the radio is for things that will be peripheral to the radio - such as a mouse for navigating the UI. It's all about USB standards.

    • @HamRadioDX
      @HamRadioDX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is incorrect. USB-A to A cables do exist.

    • @JeremyTaylorNZ
      @JeremyTaylorNZ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HamRadioDX Yes, but they aren't kosher. The USB spec originally defined type A and type B differently purposely so that it would not be possible to accidentally connect two power sources together. The ubiquity of USB connectors has seen some corruption of the original intent so yes there are actually cables like this around, but a cursory glance at the wikipedia page shows that USB-A to USB-A cables are flagged "proprietary, hazardous". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardware#USB_On-The-Go_connectors That is why I said they don't "really" exist. They do, but they shouldn't. And that is why the manufacturer of these radios has clearly decided that the professional thing to do is to adhere to the USB specification.

    • @JeremyTaylorNZ
      @JeremyTaylorNZ ปีที่แล้ว

      Well actually I didn't say the don't "really" exist, looking back at what I originally wrote - I said "there isn't such a thing" and I'll stand by that statement for the same reason - they are non-standard deviations from the spec. They *exist* because people have made them, but they aren't "USB" cables.

    Many people asking "why a new Yaesu FT710 radio?". But this really is a no brainer, why is this so hard to see? This is more than brilliant marketing from Yaesu. The FT710 is the successor for the FT991-A, that is, partly. The other part is coming little later after the FT710 has been released. It will be maybe the FT810 ( same form, same size of course; placing them nicely side by side together) and is housing a 2 m band radio; a 70 cm band radio and a 23 cm radio. All in one, just like Icom did with the IC7300 and the IC9700 shortly thereafter. Each radio pricing $999,- buying both sets you back just under $1999,- making Yaesu about $700,- more than the FT991-A costs. Just brilliant (!) Other than this; utterly pointless video !

    The different models of 710 are japan and other different country requirements.

    • @Rob2
      @Rob2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, this has been the situation all the time that commercial ham radio equipment exists, and it actually surprises me that they are surprised by that.
      The whole "I am allowed 10W but just give me the 100W radio I will set it to 10W, honestly!" may work in Australia (as it does here in the Netherlands) but we all know that many of the novice stations will just set it to 100W to work that rare station.
      So it depends on the legislation if you want to allow that or not. In some countries it is just not allowed, and manufacturers have different models to cater for that market. Have had these all the time. Look for M versions of popular radios, many of them exist.
      It likely isn't a software option either, but rather a different amplifier with different transistors (in VHF/UHF radios it is a different amplifier hybrid).

    Your analogy of speed limiting your motorcycle of course actually happens - in many parts of VK you are limited in the motorcycle and car you can use as a beginner rider/ driver. The same used to occur here when novices were limited to. 30W. The same in J land but I understand they kept the rule when we dropped it here. Probably a mistake it would have insulated all the F calls that have got grief for ‘running power’ by using higher power rigs turned down (some didn’t quite know how to do this to the required level).

    Regarding the conversation about the HDMI connector. I think the radio runner and his opinion is why they think they can get away with it. HDMI has been the standard for 15 years and for him to say oh well it's more expensive or licencing issues is the reason they are okay with it. It's clearly laughable that a 30 dollar raspberry pie has a more capable display output than a 1200 dollar radio with compute components.

    • @RoelandJansen
      @RoelandJansen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Has anyone here actually tried the FT-710 with a DVI to HDMI adapter? I recently had a problem with a computer that had only DVI video ports and it wouldn't work with a DVI to HDMI adapter on my new monitor. The problem was that the computer video board required a DVI license or it would shut down. I finally solved the problem by leaving the old worn-out monitor connected to one DVI port and the new monitor to the other DVI port. That made the video board work because it could access the license. But if I disconnected the old monitor even after the computer was fully booted up, the video would turn off immediately. So has anyone actually tried the FT-710 with a DVI adapter? I would like to know before I purchase the Yaesu.
