Don't let them haul off all of the organic material after clearing the land. Though it is hard you are doing the right thing removing the invasive fire prone species, but you should get them to turn to wood chips if not firewood like some of the first load. These wood chips can be the base to regenerate and feed the natives and other trees you add. Think of any organic material as fertilizer 👍
I lived in a Cabin down by the Iowa River, in Iowa City, Iowa for 7 1/2 years, off grid, no power, no Solar, it was a Great adventure when I was young, Nature taught me so much. YOUR Journey reminds me of my youth, I was 26 then, so many years ago, and I have moved away from there in 1992. It was such a wonderful Happy time in my life
Hi, Maya! Your land looks like mine in many ways. Ideas that may benefit you: To reduce you carrying water, you might be able to build a "ram pump" (not expensive, but well documented). In short, the energy of much falling water is used to move less water to a higher elevation, where you could store it in a tank. No electricity or fuel required, and no motors or engines, either. With water I see (like mine, but more), you could install micro-hydro, to have decent amounts of electricity. To produce natural gas (swamp gas), you could build a methane digester -- buy or build a tank, fill with water, and feed with clippings of vegetation (but not wood -- too slow to decompose). A simple push mower with a bag can save those clippings while you maintain terraces, and you can cook with the gas, maybe even heat the home some. It's gas, but without fossil fuel cost.
Some times that kind of building ruins the beauty of a place like this. I see so many people do these things and it just becomes junky looking. If you can do it without making ot messy it's good
@hirafawadofficial We're a small, damp, crowded island. Land is expensive and the weather is bad, at least it rains a lot. Many of us brits abroad say we're "economic refugees", as you can buy a lot of land in the countryside for relatively little money.
I love that you covered the trees to protect them from getting strangled by the rope 🥺💖 it not only lets your rope last longer but helps protect the tree from dying off. Love that!
It is awesome if at that young age you can afford buying this huge land, buying materials, having so much help and sustain yourself without a regular 8 hour job. Most of us mere mortals could never afford these.
Great work. Here’s a tip. Buy a dc pump and a solar panel. Then you won’t have. To carry water by buckets. You can pump from the stream to the top of your land and then use gravity to irrigate a;l your areas and terraces :-)
Hello Maya welcome to my loving country, I follow newcomers moving to Portugal and taking over old properties and renovating and looking after the land, from the bottom of my heart I wish you all the best, it will be times of despair but trust the inner god everything will be fine in the end and will be worth it. It's always nice to see a person full of enthusiasm and energy transforming an abandoned property. Removing all these branches that were creating plenty of shadow and lowering the temperature for aquatic fauna was truly a bad move though. This is exactly how people make small creeks disappear and the life that was thriving in the water. By exposing it to the sun. Hopefully you won't cause serious damages to that land.
Here in Brazil we are forbidden by law to clean the natural vegetation that grows along water streams. We need to keep from 30 to 500 meters untouched, depending on the size of the river/brook. We also can't cut trees from slopes, otherwise the rain will move the dirt from the soil, causing erosion... Even to clean invasive species we need a permit from the environmental agency. I live on the other side of the Country, very far from Amazonia, near Uruguay. The law is national. And the cleanings normally aim to produce food, not just to have a beautiful view... Very different concepts!
Get sheep, goats and ducks as soon as you can. They will fertilize the soil, and keep all the weed and growth down. Also, they are a food source when done with the job. Chickens will keep the bugs down, as you WILL realise there are more bugs when clearing the brush. Fantastic job and so cool to see you. Greetings from Norway.

Unless any of them have gone to seed or you'll end up with a new generation of them.
Then the seeds would be there anyways if you chop the wood to wood chips or not
This is important
Woodchips not good to use in high fire risk area.
