Dan, I am sympathetic to that last bit, but that's not an opinion you can express without saying, "so here is my solution." Do you want to deport all non-whites? Do you want to stop all immigration? (that would not be a bad idea - say, a moratorium on immigration for 10 years) We cannot stop people from reproducing who are already here. The white birthrate is much lower than the Hispanic (a catch-all term that is too general) or black birthrate. I agree that self-loathing globalist multiculturalists (that's not a recitation of gobblygook - it's an apt description) are poison to the US and Western Culture in general. I agree that we must push back with all our might against the "diversity is our strength crowd". I agree above all else that anyone who tries to shame "old white men" should be put on an iceberg and shoved offshore in Nome, Alaska.
@DefinitelyNotDan You are an idiot and probably haven't opened a book in a loooooong time. Also, you seem to be confused about the difference between race, culture, and ethnicity... Go back to school or back to Gab!!!
Agreed: mandatory listening. I'm not well read enough to sharpen just one of his arguments, but it occurs to me in his touching on Principled Realism that the business of shifting to a different perspective than what the US government has clung to the last 75 years pretty much dovetails with our State department being polluted with progressives. Of note to me is the mirage of so called "eurosocialism" which might not even exist but for the US underwriting their security to free up more cash than they ever knew what to do with - and warping their will for self preservation. Have we destroyed Europe? I think it's a real question, as evidenced in the micro: Karl Marx was a trust fund kid who became a misanthrope with all the money he didn't know what to do with. Things are still unfolding, and... I have a ton of reading to do.
He has his critics, in South America, where they are great fans of Hispanic culture but not American culture so much. In Chili he has been labeled a neocon, which they confusingly define as anti Stalinist.

Yes, he does, and I love it. I'm a Greek-American immigrant who went to law school in Nebraska where I met many people who, like Professor Hanson, were farmers and they deeply touched me with their simple honesty, integrity, patriotism, and good common sense.
These are professors, speeches...and people that should be speaking...teaching... on the USA college campuses. I came across VDH about 3-4 years ago...and this man is just amazing! He really explains things in a down to earth fashion and he's from CALIFORNIA. So there is still some hope for that STATE. I had written that state off years ago!
I sat in his class back 14-15 years ago and came shocked why no one told us what he just had said. I've been his ardent fan and follower ever since. The first lecture I attended was by accident I was new on campus, an undergrad and didn't know I went to the wrong room.

I am not a fan of Trump's behavior or rhetoric, but I am a fan of a realistic re-think of what America can do for the greater good while engaged in the love of our culture, our citizenry, our country.
I remember the congressional hearings on opening trade with China. None of us in the room had a degree in Economics or Poli Sci, yet we were all agreed that it was bad, bad idea. I'm stunned at the number of very intelligent people that bought into the idea that wealth automatically creates Democracy. You didn't have to look past the Middle East to know this dictum to be false. My father noted that to have wealth, at some point it must be created. We can't perpetuate ourselves just servicing each other. Now it is clear, when we exported our manufacturing jobs, we gave up a huge engine for wealth creation.
DON'T BE FOOLISH! IT FAILED ONLY BECAUSE OUR WORLD ECONOMY HAS BEEN A RIGGED GAME FOR OVER 60 YEARS IF NOT MORE! GET A CLUE! IF ONLY ONE THING IS BASED ON A LIE, THEN THE WHOLE BALL OF WAX IS A LIE!
Foolish? No, I see this very much like the Highland Clearances, where barons sold out their kinsmen, leaving them to starve while becoming wealthy beyond the dreams of Croesus.
Crash103179 yes this is true. The West bought people over to study in our countries and taught them all our knowledge and skills, at the same time we created our own competitors whom we now have to compete with. This was done out of a "help the world mentality " which was a noble idea" but it was done more so for the big money that could be made from the overseas students. The universities also then went on to pander to these ethnic groups by glossing over their bloody histories, and focusing ad nauseum on the British Empire and Fascist Germany. The kids coming out f uni today, are very knowledgeable about the sins of the West but know nothing if the 9million killed by the Japanese, in 1937'1938 and 1939 when they invaded China. They know nothing of the millions killed under the Ottomon Turkish Muslim Empire or the caliphates set up by invading Muslims in Syria in 1850, when they massacred all other ethnicities and Christians in Damascus and Aleppo. They don't know that the Muslims invaded Northern Africa in earlier centuries, Keller and enslaved 100,000,s of thousands of Black Africans.

Trump is the first president in our history that has a degree in economics.
I finished my BA in Ancient History and Political Science in 2005, and his analyses of all things Ancient Greek were interesting, eminently understandable and insightful. When I did my MA in International Relations and Politics, I still looked to VDH for detailed critical analysis of events within those spheres in the modern world. The man knows his stuff.
I listened to an interview with Hanson once who said something like, "anyone who dismisses a man who has learned to navigate the Manhattan real estate market and build a skyscraper while having a vocabulary of 1,000 words had best be careful".
+jbudd032003 - what wounded you the most about Obama - the nearly 100 months of job growth, pulling out of the pointless Iraq War, the skyrocketing stock market, bringing science and reason back to policy making, saving GM, killing Bin Laden, or increasing healthcare to tens of millions of Americans?
Obama was a CIA-born communist, faux muslim warmonger. He was Bush 2.0. He destroyed Libya with Hillary. Pulling out of the war? Look at the numbers. DEMOCRATS are the NEW NEOCONS. Obama was 8 years of Democrats turning on the constitution entirely and ignoring war crimes.
Yeah but the damage is done! Are BRAINWASHED generations won't STOP until this entire country is over with! No one is having children anymore! So there is no one to help take back the COUNTRY!!!
I force my millennial children to listen to him. They are all college graduates and each one, individually has said, why isn't someone like this guy teaching at every college?
Hi Bill! My kids are college graduates, contributing members of society. I also insist that they take their vitamins and refrain from using elicit drugs. It's my job.
Hillsdale is a thinking school a great books school that is what makes it think. I graduated Seton Hall and now realize compared to hillsdale, St johns college or St thomas Aquinas I did not receive any education at all.
I recently took Dr Hanson's class on World War II and am so sorry I had not known much of anything about him prior to that. He is such a brilliant man and an excellent teacher. I would have loved to have had him as my history professor in college. I'm now trying to track him down where I can because I really like and agree with almost everything the man has said, that I have heard so far. Just really am so happy that I have come across this man, even if it is in my old age.
I so enjoy VDH. I have read "The Second World Wars, and I am now digesting his book "The Case for Trump" I am currently working on bringing my wife and step-daughter over from China. My daughter is university age and I need to pick a university for her, or decide if she should go to university at all. VDH insights and pragmatic, muscular, view of the world, based on ancient knowledge and wisdom is a great help to anyone trying to navigate through our interesting times.
Don't undersell yourself, Hobart. VDH earns his living lecturing and there is honestly no one better at it. But it was you who chose to not only give up your time and listen to it, but to walk away with something as well. A wise decision to my way of thinking. Put one in the win column, Hobart.
As a Brit I found this completely fascinating. I have been neutral towards American politics as it is not for me to judge how others want their country fun. However after listening to this I must commend the way America has started to want to take back control for the way things are done. The world is changing and so must America. Be prepared to move forward or you WILL be left behind.
Oh man, Mr. Hanson is wonderful; the things he speaks of are for all Americans to hear, to think about. Forget politics although it has to be included sometimes for obvious reasons. The many subects he writes/talks about is most interesting, and helps us to know more about America, the world and gives this person new and profitable ideas of how I may possibly make our nation better. Victor Hanson may be the greatest intellect and speaker I have heard.
I am so very thankful that Dr. Hanson hails from California. For too long our entire State has been represented by the Bay Area and Hollywood. City dwellers that have forgotten where their consumable commodities come from. The people that don't have to live by the same social order they demand of others. The cool ones who will make an expensive piece of electronic gear "fall off the back of a truck" and into your hands only to blame the trucker when the trailer arrives to it's destination completely empty. Frustration doesn't even begin to describe our angst. Today I filled out a Mid Term ballot that featured Democrat vs. Democrat for many offices. THIS is the kind of choice you get from the scumbags driving our beautiful State like they stole it and who fully intend to jump it over the Pacific landing in downtown Beijing. Thanks Hillsdale for this great presentation!
Mudhut Productions having lived around Fresno, spent most of my time in the Bay Area, and been educated at one of the exemplary universities there, and while now living in Los Angeles, my superficial impression is that, the people who have made this state suck are mostly people who hail from elsewhere. The core Californian is either leaving, left already, or plugging their noses and putting up with the Jerry Brown who ha and Newsom encore... I agree, it’s great to know someone like VDH is from the heart of this state! There’s hope yet!
Look up Bill NYE'S the video on TH-cam called my sex junk! It is MENTALLY disturbing, but gives you a good look at what's truly going on in our COUNTRY and the WORLD! We must, be aware of these things to PROTECT our kids and grandkids!
So love your comment. I'm a transplant from Silicon Valley and in my 30 years living here in the same valley he hails from I've leaned a lot from the farming and ranching folks and it's all good useful things.
@@mR-dc4oq Sir let me impart a bit of knowledge to you as an immigrant to CA but a proud American none-the-less. California has been ruled by FOUR families for 80 years now. Pelosi's, Newsom's, Brown's and Fienstein/Getty's so if you don't believe me do your own research the info is public. These four mob cartels has been shaping California and now we have it. Who voted these people into high offices? The very people who up and left. The very people who lived high on the hog then when it began hurting they cashed in and ran. How is it that Nancy Pelosi has been in the Senate for over 30 years? How is it that Fiendstien is in the Senate for so long? How is it that the Brown's both Father and son became two term governors. How is it that Nancy's nephew now is the governor of CA? Pete Wilson was the last Republican gov way back when and I recall how the Democrats mistreated him so why did the core-Californians not rise up and do something about it at that time? Please learn something useful so we may be able to salvage our state!
Because most faculties would never let someone of his outlook (political) pass through. But then, I was in the social sciences so maybe other disciplines consist of faculty that are more "tolerant" and open to people unlike themselves
@Myron Jones They do think, but many think badly and superficially. I personally have been a Democrat for decades, but I see very little thought and good common sense, not to mention leadership, coming from the Democratic Party these days. Much of what Trump has done (i.e. Immigration, tariffs, trade deficits, non-conflict-engagement, cost of global security, to name a few), I agree with - but these (good) things are delivered by such an ugly, crude package.
Garrison Nichols you would never see Obama hug and kiss the american flag in the comical way Trump did at that event back in May or June. You would never see HW Bush, Clinton, or W Bush do it either for that matter.
I see tables seated with what appears to be three generations of the same family. Democracy and freedom is a wonderful thing to pass on to your children
Victor Davis Hanson is an amazing man. I need to figure out how to attend his lectures in person. It's a goal of mine... not sure if I'll ever be able to realize it though.
I'm from Europe (Denmark) and very much support Trump's standing up and demanding more Europe, with regard to NATO and to trade, etc. We are rich. It's dishonorable that we're not lifting out part. I wish he'd go out again and demand 2% now, or no NATO.
I do highly respect this man. He speaks truth and has a grip on history from a human perspective. I wish though that he would look at the perfectly detailed events prophecied and discribed in the Bible, of the world but especially the Middle East.
I was a life long Democrat who did not vote in 2016. In 2017 after listening to this man's lectures, and seeing a video of drag queen Story time . I never looked back . Now I have the ability to see through the bs that once blinded me
Amazing speech, maybe his best overall assessment of what has gone on over the last decade. Encouraging but tinged with the reality of our national divide. Problem is that we on the right get angry at the lefts nonsense but do not hate...I would like to hate at times, just can’t. Love the first questioner must be Henry Kissinger’s brother?

Can't stop coming back to his lectures and speeches.
America, you are very fortunate to have a man of Victor Davis Hanson's brilliance in your midst.
We have so many of them cast to the sidelines by the loud mouth left; the crazy commies who have become very vocal as of late.
He's from our Central Valley in California, bread basket of the western United States.
The man is essential but his message (nearly) unheard. The institutions that suppress his message must be exposed for the snake they are.

Well put!
What a strong answer/analysis to the last question. I’ve thought the same thing and VDH obviously captured it more eloquently and succinctly.
he is an intellectual. it is one of those things serious people should listen to
That was a Magnum Opus of rational assessment of where we are...how we got there and how we move forward on a tide of new wave thinking...
Outstanding from beginning to end. What a great synopsis of how the current world's geopolitical landscape changed after WWII and where we are today.
Looking forward to this :)
I've never heard one democrat sound like this guy. Not one... 🇺🇸
Great point, and spot on....
Timothy K and you won’t
Garrison Nichols you would never see Obama hug and kiss the american flag in the comical way Trump did at that event back in May or June. You would never see HW Bush, Clinton, or W Bush do it either for that matter.
Wow!!! What an absolutely insightful and well articulated lecture. Victor Davis Hanson really is one of America’s greatest intellectuals.
he provides the most succinct political history and context of the world order and where we should be going..brilliant simply briliant
I'd love to see Professor Hanson debate Professor Chomsky on a whole host of issues in a professionally moderated manner.
Truly brilliant thought there, so MAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPEN!
A civilized war of Titans.
Chomsky would never debate
LOVE HEARING VICTOR'S' BrILLIANCE
He's a gift to those he educates.
Stay strong USA.
great speech. Thank you
VDH is brilliant. He needs to be more widely listened to. He speaks from a position of knowledge and superior intellect.
The best. Please keep it up.
Love it ...."principled realism"!
God eases our angst through men like Victor Davis Hanson. Thank you, God ! 🙏
I see tables seated with what appears to be three generations of the same family. Democracy and freedom is a wonderful thing to pass on to your children
People are watching more long form discussion. I love it, we need more longterm conversations and less clip it's from media biased propaganda!
That's exactly what I do. Long-form, civil discourse is making a comeback.
More Victor more of the time!!! Awesome!
Victor Davis Hanson is an amazing man.
I need to figure out how to attend his lectures in person.
It's a goal of mine... not sure if I'll ever be able to realize it though.
Burial I know you can. You know you can. Do you want it bad enough? That’s the only thing that will stop you. Post if you do. 😷Coronavirus ugh
Great dose of knowledge from Mr Hanson. Greetings from Poland.
Very well presented Professor.
So many of us and our children do not know US history. Victor Davis Hansen is a treasure.
Dr.Hansons commentary will be awsome.
Brilliant lecture!
Go Victor!
Soft spoken. Humble in his response. A wealth of knowledge.. I pray he's reaching the Next Generation.
I'm always amazed.
Brilliant!
Absolutely!
Don
I'm from Europe (Denmark) and very much support Trump's standing up and demanding more Europe, with regard to NATO and to trade, etc. We are rich. It's dishonorable that we're not lifting out part. I wish he'd go out again and demand 2% now, or no NATO.
Good God and Buddha,,, This Man Is a National Treasure,,, a National Hero,,,
I do highly respect this man.
Now I have the ability to see through the bs that once blinded me
Just become a independent voter. Both sides need to earn your vote.
This is brilliant! Long overdue indeed!
David Halseth is it they are suddenly no longer able to feel empathy? They are so angry. They are a group of zombies
WOW Great Video of a Great Man, Victor Davis Hanson. Thank You
Wow! This is an amazing lecture explaining how we got where we are. Even a non-academic, non-humanities type like me could understand.
Victor is really good. Thanks for posting this lecture.
