You'll be shocked by the historical perspectives on immigration and intelligence from the early 20th century, highlighting concerns about the impact of Southern European, in particular Southern Italian immigrants ,on the average intelligence of the American population. These perspectives prompt us to question the validity of generalizations based on race or nationality and to consider the complexities surrounding discussions on social intelligence and immigration.

Come join me on a new docu-series that explores identity, racial tensions in the South during the 20th century, and the unique experiences of those who historically called Louisiana home.
My name is Danielle Romero, and all my life, I have romanticized Louisiana.
Growing up in New York, it represented a place where I could step back the sepia-toned life of my great grandmother, Lola Perot, who died before I was born.
Now, it was time to go back to Louisiana--although I had no idea what the truth would be or what questions to ask---who was Lola really? Who were we?

Somewhere online I saw a short article from about 100 years ago where some city council voted 100% not to use Italian laborers for any works projects. I believe it was in Louisiana but I'm not 100% sure. I also read an article from a newspaper published in a town near Pittsburgh, PA, in which an Italian man went up to a police officer to ask directions and the cop beat him over the head and left him lying in the street. He was in the street bleeding for about 45 minutes before someone helped him get up. If I can find those again, I'll post links.

The Italians in the North of Italy are wealthier, better educated than southern Italians. The Renaissance occurred in Northern Italy. The land itself is more productive. Southern Italy has long been poorer. Lesser productivity in the land particularly. When Italians first began to migrate to the US, the illiteracy was markedly worse in southern Italians. The middle parts of Italy were better off than the south and not as well off as the north. Italians tend to think of themselves as members of their local community much more than of Italy as a whole. Venetians, Romans, Neopolitans, and Palermitani rather than Italians. The first generations of Southern Italian immigrants were very hostile to schooling, seeing it as a threat to family cohesiveness. In Southern Italy, people actively resisted government schools when they were begun. Attitudes changed over time, but generations were needed. Italians were the most likely to return to Italy, and many came back with new ideas, like an improved appreciation of education.

I went to school in the 50s & 60s and was the middle child of a large Italian (South) American family. Both my mother who went to public school speaking no English and my Italian born step-father spoke English as a second language. I had to learn to speak Standard English in school.
In the 1950s there was a social Darwin educational tracking. Grades were always given on a norm distribution. I can still remember the day a very nice woman who I now realize was probably the school psycologist took me out for some special tests. What I most remember is her praising me for "having a good memory." I am not sure what year in elementary school I was tracked into the "smart class." The teachers would tell us we were the smart class to pump us up. I never felt so smart because Jerry who always got 100% on everything had his papers held up as the standard.
I was at a distinct disadvantage in the "American cultural" experience because we were raised in the "Italian" cultural ways. None the less one thing that was expected of us was to work hard and to be successful.
I really believe now I started behind and like a turtle in a race with the hare, I had to plug away to win the race. I got my Bachelors and then went on to get a Masters. It was only later in the past 10 years did I realize had done very well on The Graduate Record Exam . My exam scores were in the very high range. I essentially had picked up all the "American Cultural Language experience and information from being a good student. My public school scores were above average but no where NEAR Jerry's. LOL
As an older adult I have been trying to learn Italian. It was then I realized I had actually picked up all the Italian idiomatic language that was not considered acceptable Standard English writing or speaking. I had to unlearn those patterns to be considered "educated’. For example, it took me some time in Junior & SR high school English to learn to not use and write with I THINK or I FEEL which are a common pattern in Italian to distinguish the subjective from the objective expression in Italian. Italians REALLY REALLY REALLY like using the word really. You cannot imagine how many REALLIES I had circled in my high school writing classes. Double negatives are also a feature of Italian. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.
My family is from the South in Italy and I am brown during the summer. When I was growing up (50s, 60, into 70s) I don't know how many times I was asked what my nationality was by the "real Americans." I think it wasn't until the middle 1970s that I quit answering that question that I am Italian with instead, "Do I have an accent? I was born in Seattle. I am American." This is not to say that Italians are any less TRIBAL than any other ethnic group. That is another story!

The Italians, during the Roman Empire, contributed significantly to the world through numerous advancements and cultural influences. Some notable examples of their contributions include:
    1. Architecture and Engineering: The Romans revolutionized architecture and engineering, developing techniques such as the use of concrete, arches, and domes. Iconic structures like the Colosseum in Rome and the aqueducts that supplied water to cities are enduring testaments to their architectural prowess.
    2. Law and Governance: The Romans introduced the concept of codified law and established a sophisticated legal system that heavily influenced Western legal traditions. Their legal principles, such as the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial, laid the foundation for modern legal systems worldwide.
    3. Language and Literature: Latin, the language of the Romans, served as the precursor to the Romance languages and has left a significant impact on various languages, including English. Roman writers like Virgil, Ovid, and Cicero produced enduring works of literature, with Virgil's epic poem "The Aeneid" becoming a classic.
    4. Road Networks: The Romans constructed an extensive network of roads, known as the "Viae Romanae," connecting their vast empire. These roads facilitated trade, communication, and military movement, establishing a precedent for efficient transportation systems that would be emulated in later civilizations.
    5. Aqueducts and Sanitation: Romans were pioneers in engineering aqueducts, which brought clean water to their cities, ensuring a more sanitary living environment. They also implemented advanced sewage systems, such as public toilets and drainage systems, improving public health and hygiene.
    6. Art and Sculpture: Roman art and sculpture drew inspiration from Greek styles but developed a distinct aesthetic, characterized by realism and grandeur. Famous sculptures like the iconic statue of Augustus of Prima Porta and intricate mosaics showcased their artistic prowess.
These examples represent just a fraction of the countless contributions the Romans, who were predominantly Italians, made to the world during their extensive reign.
In addition, the contributions made by Italians in various fields have been immense and influential throughout history. Da Vinci and Michelangelo are two iconic figures who left an indelible mark on the world of art and science. Leonardo da Vinci's artistic genius and scientific curiosity produced iconic works like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, while his sketches and inventions laid the foundation for future scientific advancements. 😊😊😊 Viva Italia.
Similarly, Michelangelo's masterpieces, such as the Sistine Chapel ceiling and the sculpture of David, revolutionized the world of art and continue to inspire generations. His sculptural technique and ability to capture human emotion set new standards for artistic expression.
In the realm of literature, Dante Alighieri's epic poem, The Divine Comedy, remains a seminal work of Italian literature. Dante's vivid depiction of the afterlife and exploration of moral and theological themes have had a lasting impact on Western literature and philosophy.
In the field of music, Giacomo Puccini is celebrated as one of the greatest opera composers. His compositions, including La bohème, Tosca, and Madame Butterfly, are renowned for their emotional depth and melodic richness, shaping the operatic tradition and captivating audiences worldwide.
These are just a few examples of the remarkable contributions made by Italians throughout history. From art and science to literature and music, Italian culture has enriched the world with its creativity, innovation, and passion.

Nature communication y chromosome report of male European (including Italians)
      Published: 19 May 2015
Large-scale recent expansion of European patrilineages shown by population resequencing
Chiara Batini, Pille Hallast, …Mark A. Jobling Show authors
Nature Communications volume 6, Article number: 7152 (2015)
      Abstract
The proportion of Europeans descending from Neolithic farmers ∼10 thousand years ago (KYA) or Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers has been much debated. The male-specific region of the Y chromosome (MSY) has been widely applied to this question, but unbiased estimates of diversity and time depth have been lacking. Here we show that European patrilineages underwent a recent continent-wide expansion. Resequencing of 3.7 Mb of MSY DNA in 334 males, comprising 17 European and Middle Eastern populations, defines a phylogeny containing 5,996 single-nucleotide polymorphisms. Dating indicates that three major lineages (I1, R1a and R1b), accounting for 64% of our sample, have very recent coalescent times, ranging between 3.5 and 7.3 KYA. A continuous swathe of 13/17 populations share similar histories featuring a demographic expansion starting ∼2.1-4.2 KYA. Our results are compatible with ancient MSY DNA data, and contrast with data on mitochondrial DNA, indicating a widespread male-specific phenomenon that focuses interest on the social structure of Bronze Age Europe.
      Introduction
Controversy has surrounded the origins and antiquity of the people of Europe, focused on the proportions descending from Neolithic farmers originating ∼10 thousand years ago (KYA), or from earlier Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers. Early studies observed a European SE-NW cline in classical gene frequency data which was ascribed to demic diffusion of farmers1, or, in an alternative view, to the first Palaeolithic colonization2. More recent autosomal genome-wide SNP data sets reflect current population structure3,4 and admixture during the last 3,000 years5, but have provided little insight into older population processes.
Most debate on European prehistory has been stimulated by analyses of uniparentally-inherited markers. Spatial patterns in maternally-inherited mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are non-clinal, with age estimates of haplogroups (hg) taken to suggest a major Palaeolithic contribution6. Analyses of diversity in the male-specific region of the Y chromosome (MSY) show significant frequency clines in major lineages7, and geographical distributions and dates based on short-tandem repeats (STRs) have led to interpretations of both Palaeolithic8 and Neolithic9 major components. The most frequent western European lineage, hg R1b-M269, was originally believed to have originated in the Palaeolithic10, but in more recent analysis was assigned a Neolithic origin11, a claim challenged in turn12 on the basis of STR choice and sample ascertainment. In general, dates based on STRs are problematic because of uncertainty about appropriate mutation rates, and possible long-term mutation saturation due to their stepwise mutation processes13. Palaeolithic dates for the major lineages are challenged by scanty ancient MSY DNA data, which suggest a marked discontinuity between 5-7 KYA and the present14.
A major cause of the controversy about MSY evidence is that unbiased estimates of diversity and time depth have until recently been impossible to obtain in large samples. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) generally offers unbiased ascertainment of MSY SNPs, providing phylogenies in which topologies inform about past demography, and branch lengths are in principle proportional to time, avoiding dating problems associated with STRs. Some insights have emerged from recent work15,16, but no systematic population-based NGS study across Europe has yet been undertaken.
Here, we use targeted NGS of European and Middle Eastern populations to show that Europe was affected by a major continent-wide expansion in patrilineages that post-dates the Neolithic transition. Resequencing at high coverage of 3.7 Mb of MSY DNA, in each of 334 males comprising 17 population samples, defines an unbiased phylogeny containing 5,996 high-confidence single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Dating indicates that ((three major lineages)) (I1, R1a and R1b), accounting for 64% of the sampled chromosomes,(the report is telling you that all white Europeans are related and originate from three men Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or Adam,Seth, Enos..

What is interesting is that until relatively recently, many southern states used a different grading system than the rest of the country. It was a seven-point scale rather than a ten-point scale, so a 79% would be a D grade, rather than almost a B. When examining the IQ of different groups in the US, it is well to remember that Southerners of all colors had lower averages than Northerners. There are both cultural and environmental factors that can be blamed. If a child suffers from anemia, this can permanently dull his/her mental capacities. The South at the time of WWI still suffered from endemic malaria (two kinds) and hookworms. Poor nutrition can also impair intellectual capacities. Pellegra (B3 deficiency) has long been a problem among the poor of the South. B vitamin deficiencies particularly affect the mind.
Additionally, many places in the South only established public schools during Reconstruction. Traditions of academic excellence were rare in the South, and school quality was low for both races at that time.

@NYTN all of the B vitamin deficiencies have mental effects. Pellegra is niacin or B3 deficiency. The Indians traditionally add ash or agricultural lime to maize when they prepare it. The niacin in maize is chemically locked up. The addition of ashes or lime unlocks the niacin in maize. While maize was taken around the world and became a staple of the poor, the knowledge of nixtamalization did not go with it. Therefore, pellegra became an issue in many places.
The problem with hookworm is that it causes anemia. So, too, does malaria, whether plasmodium falciparum or plasmodium vivax. It is the episode of anemia that dulls the mind.

Many of those WASP's gave their life in the Civil War to free Black slaves. This WASP has been married to a Hispanic man for 45 years and has White/Hispanic/Asian grandchildren. I don't appreciate the comment.

When you see disparity you have to ask why. You have to read history. Southern Italy was under Spanish and French rule and were unfairly treated. They were taxed unfairly. Then when Italy became united the north didn't care about them. The south weren't given schools, hospitals, roads etc. The north was industrial, plenty of rivers and lakes. The south was dry. So when you say southern Italians were backwards, they were actually deprived of what they should have had. Rome and north Italy could care less about them, didn't give them what they had a right to receive so Southern Italians left for America the land of opportunity. In some villages only old people were left.

@@joanhuffman2166 yes there can't be a culture free test but that doesn't negate the fact that it could be biased against minorities or groups that have subcultures within the US. Some things can be left for "interpretation" on those tests more than they probably intend, even for someone born and raised in America. But when it comes to college entrance exams or standardized testing which is a requirement to pass grade school and high school, that bias can greatly affect those communities.

    • @joanhuffman2166
      @joanhuffman2166 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Mickey10 JB the cultural factors don't change the fact that the tests do predict academic performance very well. The SAT and ACT are very good at matching students with schools where they will do better. It is affirmative action that results in the systematic mismatch of favored groups, which then results in lower performance, higher failure rates, and greater downgrading of degree types. In law schools, mismatching results in higher failure rates taking the bar. This is true even with students who have scores are good enough to match well at tier two schools. The tier two schools produce higher pass rates at the bar with students who have the same scores as compared to mismatched students at tier one schools.
See "Affirmative Action" by Thomas Sowell.

    • @mickey10jb80
      @mickey10jb80 ปีที่แล้ว

@@joanhuffman2166 from what I've read, ACT and SAT are only a small indicator of college success and sometimes there is no correlation at all. GPA is a more consistent and proven indicator. There are also other factors as well.
As far as affirmative action, by law a person still must be qualified. They aren't choosing unqualified candidates. They are meeting the standards of admission or the position. Also other groups such as women benefit from it. I think it doesn't paint a full picture of the disadvantages that these minority groups may face to say that their failures are due to affirmative action.

    • @joanhuffman2166
      @joanhuffman2166 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Mickey10 JB affirmative action results in higher failure rates for the "favored". It also results in more frequent downgrading of degree plans, i.e., the student who planned on a chemistry degree has to downgrade to sociology. If that wasn't bad enough, other groups are systematically matched with favored individuals whose qualifications are inferior to their own. What insidious stereotypes that supports is only too obvious. While the percentage of individuals in the favored group who do match the top school is at a certain percentage, that percentage drops as the ranking of the school drops, and the mismatch grows wider down the rankings. GPA is of limited utility due to inconsistencies in school quality and inconsistencies in grading. Most people are unaware that the SAT and ACT were instrumental in combating quotas for undesired (by the university) groups (mostly Jews) in the past. Since racial considerations have been removed from the U of California admissions, actual degrees completed by previously favored groups have increased.
Thomas Sowell wrote a book called Affirmative Action. He examined affirmative action as practiced outside the United States. He investigated the intentions and compared them with the actual results achieved. His results are interesting.

I recommend three books by Thomas Sowell; "Race and Culture," "Migration and Culture," and "Culture and Conquest." He examined cultural traits in various ethnic groups who migrated to various places in the world. So, for example, he investigated Italian emigrants not just to the US but also Argentina and Australians. He points out both the strengths and weaknesses of each culture. He points out that Italian youth had the lowest rates of delinquency (crime) of any immigrant group, but the worst truancy (school attendance) rates (at least in the early generations). He points out that it was Italians themselves who insisted on separate tracking of Northern, Southern, and sometimes even the middle Italians.
Italians had the lowest rate of family abandonment, the best savings rates, were the most likely to return, and were noted for not being the kind of people who spent money to show off. They were more likely to experience economic success in their own businesses rather than through educational attainment. Later generations did begin to value education more, but biographies of Italians who increased their education often discuss the emotional toll of feeling that they were betraying their family by pursuing education.

    • @fij715

Yet these people conquered Rome and killed it.
The superiority of the Germanic race lies not in strength or IQ but in our ability to adapt. Yes we were barbarians but we learned from the Romans who were fundamentally weak and destroyed them when they started to decay by themselves.
It’s the Lombards (Longobards/Longbeards) who settled into Northern Italy and remain the elite of that country even today. The Alans and de Vandals (Wandels/Wanderers) who are the elite of Spain and Portugal and North West Africa. The Saxons/Angels and Frisians and Danes and Norwegians that became the upperclass of Britain and the USA and the Franks who became the ruling class of France and de Swedes and Geats who became the ruling class of Russia and Poland.
Al most all European monarchies simply have mostly Germanic blood as does the elites of these nations. Germanic people are in some aspects simply superior to other Europeans.

This is my third in a day, so it seems you've got me hooked. I congratulate you again. Mix the intelligence with the language and the cultural influence on the intellectual climate of a group. There is a lot of self fullfiling prophecy around this issue. Prejudice practice breeds a lot of fear among those who practice the prejudice, meaning that however obvious it might seem to them, the prejudiced are not going to buy it as such, nor gladly. So instead of acknowledging the richness of knowing additional languages, they forbid under grave consecuences for the children, who are helpless before their teachers, the prevalence of their original language, out of fear. So the heavy calisthecnics of juggling the new and the old language, does not have any developmental consecuences for the intelect of the children? The new comers are intelectually castrated from developing their native language, together with the new, and the 'natives' are self castrated from the exposure of fresh cultural approaches to things, which they could' experience if they spoke additional languages.
The educated Latin Americans follow the European mold as ideal, in spite of going to American Univesities for graduate of even undergraduate formation. But they openly mock and deride the American framework of intelectual pattern and habits as very much blah. The scholarship level of European Scholars surpases in sophistication that of the Americans by leaps and bounds. Practically any intelectual Latin American and European professional is considered to have to be multilingual as a must. Americans take that as a sign for their complacency instead of the opposite. The IQing focuses on the most superficial aspects of the overall capabilities of the person, the so called intelect that responds to intelligence mainly, and most of all. The IQing is called psychometry, and goes all the way to college asmissions, to Harvard, for example, or the Bar exam. Georfrey Epstein and his brother were IQed Mensa brats and look at what went on with Geoffrey and not with his brother. I came across a legal treatise by an Italian legal scholar who in the translaion to his book on International Law writes down how glad he is for the translation because in that way it will get exposure in America, for no way the Americans are going to understand the Italian language he writes. Mockery for the whole world to see. Can you understand Giorgia Meloni when she speaks? That woman makes music when she speaks, I wish I could understand her.

1:20 yes it isn't cut and dry I agree, but this doesn't imply that there aren't different averages which can be compared. The issue comes when on that slight differences racism and discrimination is constructed. Another point is that IQ tests just measure a sub section of intelligence. Intelligence is more as rows of numbers, pattern recognition or verbal capacity, although you can make statements on that measurements but these are incomplete. I wider and more complete test of intelligence would be necessary to give better statements or conclusions. Despite this valid critique IQ tests are one of the most objective and conclusive psychological tests/methods but this only valid when the test design reflected.

Have you looked at figures of the educational level, types of skills and work performed by the majority of migrants from different countries who came to the United States back in the early 1900s ?
If migrants from the nordic countries comprised more scientists, engineers, professionals, intellectuals, academics, industrially skilled industrial and craft workers with higher levels of schooling and vocational skills, whilst migrants from southern Europe, as well as British-occupied and oppressed Ireland mostly comprised farmers, farm workers, low-skilled general manual labourers, low-skilled industrial workers, then it could be expected that IQ tests of different ethnic groups in the United States would yield results suggesting that nordic migrants are intellectually "superior" than southern European and Irish migrants.
After all, the 1st Industrial Revolution began in Britain in the 1800s and spread to Western and Nordic Europe, as well as North America, so did not spread uniformly across all of Europe, let alone across Asia, Africa and Latin America, with the exception of Japan, and like it or not, the people of more highly industrialised, scientifically and technologically-oriented countries tend to practice more systematic industrial, scientific and technologically-oriented practices and culture in their daily lives, than people in more largely agrarian countries who may practice more systematic industrial, scientific and technologically-oriented practices and culture within their industrial workplaces such as assembly plants just because it is a requirement of their management, without understanding and internalising the reasons for such practices.
At the end of the day, this IQ and Eugenics issue is a result of a migrant's class background, not ethnicity.

Scholars, for example, very often lack the ability to observe the behavior of others objectively because they have grownup in a classroom and have never had nature as their teacher. Hence, they are shackled by the subjective teachings of others and thus they refuse to open their eyes and see things as they are. Bottom-line, there is no credible scientific evidence that proves all the races of man are inherently equal in intelligence. And the contention that they are is simply nonsense.

Your take on the difference between southern and northern Italians in IQ ranking nowadays has some mistakes that you should correct, mainly in relation to the standardized test presented by MENSA and reviewed by ISTAT. Given that the average IQ of an Italian citizen in Italy is of 102, there are regional differences, directly linked to eugenics, in the ranking assessments. For instance: the region with the highest average IQ in our country is Friuli Venezia-Giulia, mostly populated by Italians of northern European descent, whereas the lowest averages are found in Sicily, Calabria, Campania and Sardinia. The argument made by eugenists is that the fourth - to last region in IQ ranking (Sardinia) is really the one with the true lowest IQ in all of Italy... The link between that and eugenics stems from the development of the school system during fascism (our schools still operate within said system): since Benito Mussolini wanted to exterminate Sardinians, Sicilians and Campanians and replace them with northern european people, he purposely cut off the funds directed at the schools in those regions; these funds were set by Giolitti in the 1920's, during his second mandate as a prime Minister. Such politics have been further perpetrated by most prime ministers even during the second Republic (see Silvio Berlusconi and Romano Prodi), adding to it the reduction of the funds directed to empower the means of transportation and building railways and roads. You can see these data even in the maps and in the statistic charts. All of this has been justified by saying that "Southern Italians are naturally inferior to their northern counterparts, more complacent and more prone to choose blue collar jobs"; in all of Southern Italy there's also a much higher rate of high school dropouts.

    • @Bradamante68
      @Bradamante68 ปีที่แล้ว

Mussolini wanted to exterminate Sardinian, Campanians and Sicilians? I wonder why then he helped immediately the victims of the quake of Vulture on 1930, which affected the regions Puglia, Campania and Basilicata, causing 1404 deaths. Not only, he made sure the affected areas went into reconstructions. It is certainly not true that prime ministers of the Republic like Berlusconi wanted to pursue a politics of extermination of southern people. Berlusconi was a fan of Neapolitan culture and music and he had often a Neapolitan traditional singer singing for him. Nothing even about Prodi, even if I am not a fan of him at all, he never did anything you’re suggesting. Cut in school funds or railroads were made in the years in the whole country because of reorganisation and because the EU always asks Italy to cut the expenses. In the case of schools, a part of the problem is caused also by waste of resources or bad use of such resources and bad planning, and the same problems affect also healthcare and infrastructures. Schools are bad from north to south, regarding to resources and buildings. Falling of ceiling pieces in classrooms happened and still happen from north to south, just google it.

IQ tests like WAIS 4 (the most popular in the US) test potential for academic achievement. how is that so hard to understand?
1/3 of the test is MEMORY testing. even the sections not under 'working memory index' include lots of memory work. Memory is critical for nearly all academic achievement. Short term, working and long term memory if you're good at these three things odds are you'll do very well in an academic setting with the right balance of nurturing. Go look at the four areas the WAIS 4 tests and you'll see they're just areas that would be used in an academic setting mostly. Are you good with learning, manipulating and applying information quickly? Those are the skills needed in modern society as information workers. What test do you propose to have?
low iq people tend to take too long to learn new material and they are slow at producing work based on that information, if they even remember sufficiently to be of any use. even the US military has a cutoff of around 82 or 83 iq below which they don't want you.

Charles Darwin has been controversial for years! People were up in arms that we could possibly ascend from apes. Most religions were enraged!
Most of his studies have been used to make it ok to treat minority’s with contempt, they are so uneducated and savage it’s ok to present them as less than human. Darwin traveled to different countries to learn their cultures and then put them in catagories and would show the differences between white Anglo Saxons and people that were considered less than. Darwin made it ok for white Anglo Saxons to be racist because they were the superior race. But we all know now that Darwin’s views were skewed toward racism because as a supposed scholar he observed but didn’t learn. He made assumptions based on his own bias. His descriptions of Africans in Africa were that they were primitive and savage and of low intelligence. They were considered a step above apes. Unfortunately that definition stuck and made slavery acceptable because Darwin deemed them primitive. Like most of that generation they believed they were superior and therefore they could treat others how ever they chose. Most people were religious and also believed they could “save” these primitive beings.
Darwin technically started the categorizing of groups of people, therefore I deem him the father of racism.

The lowest are Hispanics, but this was not always the case, in the past they were Blacks, but their IQ rose when slavery was eliminated and they better integrated into the middle class, even among Hispanics it can vary enormously depending on their social class ( poor, middle class or rich). Back in the day, nobody was given any handouts. In fact, the immigrants were treated very poorly and had much taken away from them. There were quotas and sponsors were needed. The process of coming to this country did not involve physicall walking across a boarder unregistered and then being put up in fancy hotels at taxpayers expense, given gift cards payed for by the government ( again, your tax dollars), and promised all kinds of goodies in general for crossing over the boarder illegally. The problem is systemic. It's called capitalism. Before there was the non biological (it's actually political) category of race - there was racism. Meaning... that these concepts evolved not to "scientifically" explain anything but, au contraire, to justify prevailing economic, social, and class relations. What are those economic, social, and class relations? The exploitation of the target group by a privileged minority. How does the minority dominate and control the majority? It's simple: divide and conquer. According to Alfred McCoy (read his To Govern the Globe) this got it's major impulse in the modern era by the Portuguese kidnap of Africans to exploit them in the cultivation of highly profitable sugar cane crops in the Cape Verde Islands and Sao Tome off the coast of Africa in the 15th Century. The institution of capitalist slavery then spread to the New World (initially the Caribbean and Brazil). Who's got the highest IQ? Me. Who am I? The Mexican-American kid who taught himself to read at the age of four by studying cereal boxes (Wheaties and Corn Flakes) at the breakfast table before he even started kindergarten. I was always the tallest/smartest kid in school in a thoroughly Anglo community (Seal Beach, California). I hated it when people mispronounced my last name but no one ever seriously picked on me. The teachers (Mrs. Kinney especially) either asked me to lead the class or gave me separate, more advanced work to undertake. I quickly learned that all of this race stuff was pure bunk - and that includes the hero worship of Benjamin Franklin - the founding father who castigated German immigrants (the so-called Pennsylvania Dutch) as "stupid and swarthy". At the same time, based on my mother's very strict instructions, I understood that I was no better than anyone else in this world. She was a very vocal and determined defender of equality and I have never betrayed her principles. BTW - I may "look white" but according to Ancestry.com I'm 7% Native American and 2% African (among other things). Who's got the lowest IQ? That's easy. Those who believe in the false concepts of color and race.

These are the very people (especially the Anglos) that I had the strongest prejudice against and I then find out - when I'm 70 - that I'm one of them! so-to-speak. Slight adjustment - the working class Irish-American kids in Seal Beach were always my best friends. My mother's parents didn't attend her wedding! The family name was Gibbs. I was smart enough in grade school to suspect that if they were ramming Ben Franklin and the American Revolution down my throat that there must have been another side (as there always is) to that story. And now you have people deliberately opening up all of the old wounds. My 50/50 prognosis? Do a Google search on Fermi's paradox if you want to find out. And no one had a higher IQ than the 1938 Nobel Prize winner, Enrico Fermi.

You are ignoring that they also said that it is more likely due to environment that the observed scores differed between groups. The narrative being put forward in this video is debunked in another video titled "Intelligence Tests and Immigration at Ellis Island (IQ tests and Immigration)" Also, intelligence literally can explain the North South difference known in Italy. See the post "Italian economic inequality explained by cognitive inequality" for details. Basically, the north consistently scores better.

A lot of the performance on IQ tests is affected by the economic class systems that shape minds from an early age.

Let’s make a list of different people and put ourselves on top. Voila! We’re superior!”
But how will we justify it?

Er - it was British "science", "scientific racism" - had quite an impact ....
And the British are somehow "Nordic"? - don't think so.
The biggest invention is that of the "Anglo-Saxon", which people trot out but do not question (they are a mixture of many peoples).
