I find my enjoyment anymore is the just going out and shooting. There times I look at a scene and think yes 4x5 and others I’m glad I had a 35mm film or digital camera with me. Last night was lots of looking but only 6 really blah images but I had fun just looking and exploring an area I hadn’t been to in ages
Lovely photo of the water. I honestly didn’t think you would post a video today. With all that bad weather down there I imagined you getting blown around on a beach catching the big waves !
I have been following you for some time, love your work so much, the 4x5 is amazing and I have just got set up to start shooting this format which I’m excited about but wow I love the grain in your 35mm images and how that comes across which is just superb, thank you so much for sharing.
I don't know whether farming is worth it. But I can see that this old 4x5 camera still takes excellent pictures. And Nala doesn't worry about the value of farming anyway, she's happy that she gets to go out with you. 🙂
@@steveh1273 pushing hp5 with 510 pyro is never disappointing. I had not intended on pushing but I exposed 2 sheets of this image . The first I did with rodinal stand and it was thin . So I pushed by one stop on the second neg . Hp5-800 and 510 are best friends
Love the LF but to me your 35mm images are more expressive. I’ve not used my LF for a couple of years and now find I’m enjoying a compromise between LF, MF, and 35mm, by using 35mm with a very fine grain film such as Adox CMS-20 or HR-50? HR-50 is very easy to use and develop (I use FX-39). I think the point is it’s a quasi MF quality with the shooting flexibility of 35mm, but a tripod is still needed.
@@stevebarnett5048 thanks . I confess I am hunting for the drama of the thick grain these days rather than fine grain . For me LF is more about depth of field than its resolution I think MF is still my favourite happy place right now. In the middle of the 2
Lovely shots whatever you are shooting with. Luckily I can walk up to the moors from my front door in ten minutes, which nakes me lazy as I'd have drive for ten minutes to be on the fells and a whole half hour to be in the mountains. I guess distance is relative to how 'Can't be Arsed' you're feeling. Same goes for how heavy the camera is ...
@@chriscard6544 thanks Chris ! Last night I deleted a comment from a keyboard warrior telling me all my photos are boring and suggested I learn from a list of photographers. I obviously don't belong on this thread because I firmly believe in working smarter rather than harder (especially in mid-winter) and think your best image by far was the last one featuring sheep and distant hills. As for the rest, my back couldn't have stood the strain in your place, but I've always been a skinny geezer.
Couldnt disagree more im afraid. As a LF photographer for 20 years odd, the medium is never about catching a moment, its about planning for a moment. The camera system doesnt allow for quick shooting, they are considered photographs. Also dont know why other film shooters dont use grad filters. Film doesnt have unlimited DR, and that sky is hotter than the reflection. Toning it down even with just a 0.3 GND would benefit the image. Reflections i think should be balanced. I also shoot 135 and id never use film or a developer that gives that amount of grain. In my opinion its way too harsh
Thanks for your comment . You're right about LF being a planned event . It has its place but I have stated on other videos that if it's all I ever did I would probably quit photography. I shot a couple of sheets of delta 100 this weekend and developed in rodinal . Negs are lovely . Photos are boring Each to their own . I love that chunky 35 mm / rodinal combo I've found myself lusting for a faster set up LF , perhaps a linhof one day . One with a compact 150 lens As I said at the end of the video if you made it too the end . I have no solid conclusion.
@ yeah i agree i cant go without 135 or 120, but sometimes when i want a special place photographed and planned for it has to be 45. Even if i end up taking nothing which i do frequently. If its really not the perfect image i wont use up my 45 film. Its too expensive. Ive learned over years that whether it is 135 or 45 if the image isnt worth printing it isnt worth exposing
With large format photography it is not a question of "finding" the decisive moment but "waiting for" the decisive moment. Beautiful work !!

I've heard pushing HP5 with 510 pyro doesn't perform well, but your result is very convincing. I've no experience with 510 pyro.

There’s a lot to said for working with medium format. It really depends on the size of the finished print.

@@MichealSeaghdha actually my 45 kits pretty light , certainly lighter than my medium format
Just bulky
Best shot that was the 4x5
4x5 is great but look how much more productive you are with the 35mm. Time is a photographers most valuable resource!
Plenty of time with 4 x 5 !🤣🤣
