As someone who recently started living in Fukushima, the TV alarm is the same sound you will hear at full blast if your town has an earthquake siren. It is really unpleasant but obviously very good to have if you are sleeping. And the first sound you'll get on your phone at full volume regardless of your phone settings (even if it's on silent mode it will override the settings). Honestly very haunting after experiencing the 7.4 earthquake on the 16th of March.
You will know if you live in japan, the moment everyones phones on the densely populated train starts making the first sound at full volume. Everyone just be like "Oh c'mon. Again?"
Funny thing is when I was living there and I had a Japanese contract with docomo whether my phone was on silent or not it didn't matter, everyone's phone would play the alerts at full volume no matter what you do
The sound at 1:00 wasn't an alarm. It was a signal that forced the televisions or radios to turn on for more information about the earthquake be known.
The iPhone alert scared the s*** out of me after today's Chiba's earthquake alert that happened at around 4:18 AM. Moment after closing the alert I felt the earthquake. It was a brief moment but scary as hell.
Haha yeah. I had fallen asleep with my earbuds in. I wake up to a lady in my ear saying "earthquake". Safe to say I had a pretty quick reaction time lmao.
Same here man, it was my first time I Heard that sound, I am new in Tokyo and it scared the scrap out of me and my wife. We have 4 phones and all of them had sirens going and on top of that the earthquake was pretty intense. I wonder if we should take action if the earthquake is above 5 magnitudes.
I am half Japanese and I lived my whole 11 year old life in Tokyo and Miyagi. I remember when I was like 5 or 6, my mum gave me a little kids phone that I could call my parents with in case of an emergency. It also made sounds when there was a tsunami or an earthquake, just like any other devices. One time there was a small earthquake after I got the phone, and it made sounds that scared the crap out of me. I wasn’t really scared of earthquakes because at the time, I lived in Miyagi which Is where the earthquake in 2011 hit and stage 1-4 earthquakes happened pretty often there. I was just terrified of the alarms. I moved to Tokyo at 8. There was an earthquake just yesterday but I didn’t notice it lol (It dosent mean you shouldn’t take earthquakes seriously, my grandma lost her sister because of it and you should probably take action when the earthquake is above stage 5. )
Geez that must been terrifying. Here in my country, earthquakes beyond stage 5 is taken seriously and so far 2 evacuations of school has happened. It's very hard to think that another country has more earthquakes happen than our country but I think it's because Japan is a mountainous country, I don't know much, I'm only taught my own country's geography. Anyways it must been hard for your grandma to lose her sister. I wish you safety my friend :)

Im an earthquake baby. 5.7 is the maximum magnitude ive experienced and i still nearly fell on my butt. We get lots of little ones but because its a divergent plate boundary and not convergent like in japan we probably wont experience more than 6.2 here

@@lexbro95 it was crazy! I'll never forget it. We had aftershocks for almost 6 months. I used to teach in a small town between shirakawa and koriyama.
How the hell is it that Japan and China can both sense incoming earthquakes, and here in California we can’t?

It’s not really a need to worry as long as you follow the protocol. When there’s a tsunami, that’s something to worry about if you are near the coast.
