We NEED a Sequel with THESE 2 actors.....It starts with them returning to Earth MANY years Later to Recruit a New Star Fighter or group of Starfighters......NOT a Reboot PLEASE!
52 years old and just rewatched it the other day. Probably haven’t seen it since the late 80’s. Probably a movie I would like to see remade and sprinkle in the old cast.
Give a little bit more meat to the story, a broader view of the universe, maybe a few additional locations to showcase the vast alien alliance with its many worlds and cultures, and contrast to the brutally cold and mechanical Kodan empire, and adding the the modern capabilities of special effects... and that's really all it would need.
Hands down! The trailer park living in that movie brought back memories of that simple and peaceful place that rural CA used to be, with the ideal climate.
@0:22 I remember Catherine Mary Stewart from Nighthawks (1981), Night of the Comet (1984), and Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) as well. She’s aged like fine wine, and Lance Guest has aged well too. She’s 65 and he’s 64.
I saw this in the movies. It REALLY makes me feel old when I see the actors again (I was 8 or 9 when it came out, and knowing they were at least 20, means they have to be in their 60s. They both look good for their age, but I still feel OLD)
After watching this now I want to go into my theater and watch Night of the Comet and The Last Starfighter, again. lol. The Last Starfighter is by far my favorite movie. This was a great watch!
My local theater had a "Best of 1984" series last month. My adult son and I got to see this theatrically and loved every minute of it. We would watch this regularly when he was a kid.
Great movie! The script showed that young people can achieve their goals and dreams even at times they think they can't. The producers were very brave to utilize C.G.I. which was basically still at the research & development stage no matter what movie it was used in. It's a great movie to watch; unique and different -- do not do a re-do~!!!
@@mindrover777 The movie studios themselves had no "in-house" CGI teams. The studios had to outsource the various companies that were just starting to explore what they could do with computer graphics.
One of my favorite Sci Fi films next to Tron..Had a crush on Catherine as a kid in the 80’s. She looks amazing still!! Lance looks amazing as well. Great to see them still around doing these cons
For a sequel today they should have Alex and Maggie together, living in silicon valley... they own a software company that markets a popular MMO called 'Star League'. Where players have been piloting starfighters 'in game' for years where some of the missions are actually remote piloted real defenses of the star league. But the kodan have destroyed the communications relays so now they have to invite the best players to come man starfighters for a real defense of earth as the kodan tries to take out the starfighters once and for all.
Dude, I LOVE this idea! Makes a lot of sense and would be a great way to bring a whole new audience along the journey of moving from the real world into the world of sci-fi, in much the same way the og movie did.
Jiraya that sounds AWESOME!! That " digital sword in the stone" aspect of starfighter was one of the best (quintessential) parts of the original. To extrapolate that in a sequel would make a seamless extention. If they do do this I just hope these 2 are part of it and not try to drop in someone like Leto and ruin it
What a great movie I wanna say the main reason this got lost in the 80’s shuffle was back to the future had just recently come out and it was a huge shadow it cast so this never got the love I believe it deserved
I was lucky enough to sit on a panel alongside Alan Dean Foster, who wrote the book ("The Last Starfighter"). Obviously, Foster also ghost-wrote many of the "Star Wars" books as well. :) In any case, it was a HUGE treat to chat with him one-on-one prior to the panel, because TLS book was one of my favorites as a child.
Yup the last starfighter is a classic and deserves all the recognition we can give it. And yes the comment earlier we need a last starfighter 2. Ty Mary and lance for such an amazing movie regardless of how well it did back in the day. Truly amazing movie. My love to both you and yours. Repent time is short and getting shorter
My very first job during high school was in our small town theater, I was a projectionist when this classic came out. Today something told me to look it up. I always thought it deserved a sequel or a really good reboot. Very exciting news that this is in the works and may just happen.
I saw this when it came out, I was a young Marine serving in California. I love this movie, and I still watch it every so often. It just had a chemistry I can't explain, but it still works for me today, even though the special effects are so dated compared to today. it was a fun movie, with a fun cast.
I think she is gorgeous after all these years and like the guy said the years have been kind to both . I love the Last Starfighter and after seeing the different people talk about a remake if they are up for it and want to go another round the only thing holding them back is the funds . In this day and age to remake the type of computer generated movie the local teen could ace this one :) I say go for it !
A sequel would be Alex and Maggie on Rylos, with a rebuilt Star League (serving as their leader following Enduran and others, and forbidding their daughter (or granddaughter) to join in order to "protect her". But, a new menace returns from Xur, and Louis, who finally beat the game and was taken by Centauri to the base (a new fake face can explain a new actor for the late Robert Preston, as Grig makeup automatically covers a new actor for Dan O'Herlihy, who is head of training at the Academy, and secretly training Alex's daughter/granddaughter). Their daughter/granddaughter finds a competitive love interest in a current Starfighter pilot, and she sneaks off with him in 2 ships to fight the new Xur menace together, defying her parents (with 2 Griglings serving as their navigators). Just a thought... someone just has to write it, I'm an "idea man"... ;-P
Gahhhh, there is soooo much potential for a real time sequel and even a series set in this world. The alien races are GORGEOUS and so unique! I would offer to write the lore out for free.
My wife and I saw it the day it came out. She was pregnant with our son at the time, and the only thing we didn't like about the experience was it was 90 deg that day and the theatre didn't have any air conditioning. We thought for sure there would be a sequel within at least 2 yrs, and have been waiting ever since. It was so sad to because that was Robert Preston's last film role before he passed in 87. So Lance and Mary you got to work with one of the best in the business. Our kids absolutely loved it when it came out on VHS it was a favorite. My youngest son is in his late 30's and still gets a kick out of it. Our grandkids will be seeing it soon too. Too many scenes to pick from in that movie, but my wife and I still both laugh at Louis' "Yolanda Baby."
I Still have my 25th Anniversary edition DVD that Lance signed, Catherine and the others weren't at that event which would have made a great day even better. Still one of my favorite 80's era films that really needs a sequel. Though not made by today's Hollywood, please don't let that happen. Indy film producers might do it Justice however as they still like to write good stories.
I was 13 when the movie came out in theaters back in 84. CGI was in the early stage. Great movie. I wonder how Alex and Meg adjust to their new life beyond the stars.
For many many years I wanted a sequel that was about them on Rylos and how they had reformed the corps and perhaps had a child or two and they were a 2 planet family with new dangers and aliens. EDIT: Maybe they now own the trailer park and all their old friends and family live there free and such. Maybe with the store being a secret recruitment center for Gunstar pilots.
I'm glad they didn't do a sequel. Very few sequels are worth watching, the few I can think of are The Empire Strikes Back, Blade 2, Hellboy 2, and The Karate Kid 2.

The Last Starfighter is by far one of the best movie's of the 80's & the 2020's, because I still love watching today.
I really wanted to see the video game.
The Last Starfighter is an absolute classic.
One of the best sci-fi movie adventures from my childhood. Happy 40th!
I was an arcade kid when this movie hit theaters.
So my love for Sci-fi and arcade games was a double whammy.
Catherine is still very crush-worthy!
Hard to believe, she's 65 now. She turned 65 back in April. She definately don't look 65, Lol.
Mmmhmmmm. Wow
Right, she fine.
Always rooted for Alex Rogan and mags to end up together!! Awesome!!!
Last Star Fighter was a Movie I rewatched as much as I watched Flash Gordon. Love this Movie.

Catherine Mary Stewart is my complete crush from the 80's!!! Love you Lance!!!
