No spoken dialogue and it just wrecks me every time. Holy moly this hits so hard. These were my heroes from my childhood and as old as I am I can't believe that so many of them are gone. Especially now that I'm losing my own crew of friends. Music, visuals, all perfect. And seeing Robin Curtis as Saavik too? Priceless.
All the 50 years of Star Trek, I've been alive 61 years,to bear witness to come pouring in so emotionally overwhelming. I was so unprepared for the visually beautiful impact of seeing those 2 together like that. How timeless it is about real world friendships and love as a family.
To answer some of the questions about what's happening, Gary Mitchell, possibly hovering outside of the Nexus, is apparently aiding Starfleet in their attempt to resurrect James T Kirk from the remains recovered from the planet he died on and stored at The Daystrom Institute black site. People speculate that the yeomen from the original Star Trek pilot is a traveler like Wesley Crusher from the previous short videos and that Spock has shared his experiences with V'ger with her, explaining the shape of that pond on that plateau that looks like the opening of the massive probe. Gary Mitchell and The yeoman basically help a Kirk Resurrected at the point that he died 30 years ago and goes to a memorial for Spock where Kirk sees Savik and Spock's son they had together on the Genesis planet. Then he sees the time traveling Universe hopping alien last seen in Star Trek Discovery season 3 who is from the Kelvin universe and transports Kirk to that alternate timeline universe where his past selves starting with the version of himself that would be the current version in that universe and then a future version as his body adjust to the pressures of going back in time and then to another universe. Then we see the reason for all of this which is to go to Spock's deathbed shortly before he died in an alternate universe so he didn't have to die alone and could be reunited with his dearest friend as they spent final moments together. We can only speculate what happens from here on out but this is official and William Shatner and his Kirk have returned to the Star Trek universe, possibly for the final time but who knows? This was an absolutely incredible way for both characters to go out if it's the last time we see them in his capacity and the fact that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy family was involved every step of the way was just beautiful.
This leaves open the possibility of another adventure for Kirk. However, this ending is so very perfect, there is no reason for James Kirk to appear again.
When the camera panned over the table next to Spocks bed, that wooden box thing, was what Kelvin Spock opened to see the TOS cast picture towards the end of Star Trek Beyond. Tying the death bed scene in this short directly to the Kelvin universe.
I really wanted to think Gary wanted to help Kirk since they were friends on the Republic, then the Constitution, and then the Enterprise. (The "Brother's Keeper" trilogy of books)
This is the Trek i've been missing for ages. I love how we see Savik, and her and Spock's son, Sorak. This tied up so many things, and it made Robin Curtis so happy. The proper send off for these two epic characters.

I lost count of how many times I've watched this and cried. It's beautifully done and a fitting tribute to the bromance of Kirk and Spock. And it actually fixes a problem I had with Star Trek Beyond: Spock dies in a world that doesn't really understand who he is. People knew of Spock, but none could be as close as his OG crew. The way that Spock looks at Kirk is truly heartbreakingly beautiful.
I understood this right away as Kirk in the afterlife. Just after his death in Generations. If you listen to any of the many near death experiences that can be found on youtube it matches those experiences. Your trying to place it in time but in the afterlife there is no time. Arriving in the garden and meeting loved ones from his past and then seeing him self at different ages which is a quick way of doing the life review and meeting Spock as he comes to terms with his new reality and needing Spock there as he is about to start a new adventure and who else would he need by his side as he boldly goes. You see people as a kind of projection of your perseption and his want to reconnect with his dear friend. The sunrise represented the start of a new adventure and his face as he starts to understand where he is. Thats what I saw from that anyway.
We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted that in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.
It was like watching 2 friends of mine I've watched for 50 years see each other one more time, the last sunset together. It's just such a beautiful moment I had hoped to never see,you see? I just don't know what the world is without Kirk and Spock with us teaching us how unity is done.
That was Spocks son behind Savik, also for me this is 100% canon because it integrates TOS, the Movies, TNG, Picard, discovery and he goes to Spock's death bed in the Kelvin time line. Its such a wonderful tie together and a wonderful closing of Spock and Kirk. Also at the end i cried even harder when I saw Star Trek Created by Gene Rodenbury, no the usual based upon we've seen since his death. So even more it's like a final goodbye from Gene Rodenbury himself.
Sam Witwer was also darkseid on Smallville. My understanding is that this is an official Paramount project. OTOY have been working meticulously on the Roddenberry Project, making various shorts and recreations of Starships
And to think Sam Witwer is the actor who portrayed Kirk in this production. I saw the interview where Sam tells about the work he had to do to get into the character to make his movements to match the way William Shatner moved. Software did the rest to make Kirk's face accurate.
As someone "on the scale" who is old enough to have grown up before there was a scale, Spock was my hero growing up. Later I would be inspired by Data. But Spock holds a special place in my heart. I've seen a number of explanation of this, since OTOY has a mission to unite Star Trek TV, film, books and comics. Apparently there is a book where Spock goes into Pon Faar while with Savak, and they have a son. When we see Robin Curtis near the beginning, and she motions to indicate a man behind her, that is supposed to be Spock's son. At the beginning when we see Gary Mitchell from Where No Man has Gone Before, that is actually played by Gary Lockwood (who hasn't acted since 1997). One line of thinking is that Gary Mitchell made it possible for the part of Kirk still trapped in the Time Ribbon to meet the grey alien and travel over to the Kelvin universe to that he and Spock could be together when they both cross over from life.
I anyone reads the trilogy "My Brother's Keeper", you'll realise just how special the relationship between Kirk and Mitchell was. I believe Gary facilitated Kirk's final journey.
Seems you missed Spock's son there. Robin Curtis admitted it from the Star Trek IV original script that was omitted and showed it to us last week when she stayed behind with Spock's mother that she was pregnant.
Can anyone answer this - why was Saviks character in the afterlife and Not Kirks own son David? This doesnt make sense! Kirk had a lot of hate against Klingons later on. You would expect to see your kid who died before you to be there!
Good to see Wesley is behind this lol. Crusher is listed in the credits. If you watch the crowd scenes a man steps forward dressed in the wedding outfits from Nemesis

This is something I’ll never understand. Why can’t we actually do this. Make a new Star Trek movie with the original cast again. We have the technology we have the AI to assist. Get actors dress them up make up and all and edit the film in such a way they look like the original crew and sounds like them. And it would be amazing. And it would even be better if the actors learned the small mannerisms to really sell it.
This is bridging Star Trek Generations and Star Trek Beyond. The implication is that Daystrom Station was able to reanimate Kirk and he passed into the Kelvin Universe to see Spock before he died.
I agree with this assessment. However, it will be remembered more as Kirk being with Spock in their last moments before both heading into the Undiscovered Country together.
An effort brought about seemingly by the combined efforts of Gary MItchel, scientists at Daystrom Station, and that Time Warrior guy from Beetleguise that is from the Discovery series.
