    I fell in love with your beautiful cookies and decided I wanted to make them for my nephew's wedding. His spouse is from India, and I decided to make half the cookies with their names in English and half in Marathi. Your instructions and video were so clear and helpful that you made me feel I could do this. The wedding was last weekend, the cookies were lovely, and I think the guests from India were touched to see their language. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your creativity; you are an inspiration!

      Hi Vero, that is the same issues I have with vodka, you have to use it really thinly (wipe your brush into a paper towel before touching the icing) I found rose spirit (or Everclear Grain Alcohol if you can get it in your country) is better to use for painting with gel colouring 🙂👍

    When you leave the cookies to dry do you put them in a container or leave them on the counter? If you put them out on the counter wouldn’t it dry the cookie out?

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Amber Carlo Hi Amber, I put the cookies on my bench while the icing is still wet to wait for them to dry, and while the icing is in the process of drying the cookies won’t dry out because the icing on top will act as a protective layer. However when the icing is completely dry and I have finished my decorating process I put them into an airtight container. If I’m making them for a client, I heat-sealed each cookie into an individual cellophane bag to keep the fresh longer 😊 hope that helps explained it better 😉👍💖

    I was wondering if using vodka or the everclear makes the cookies not recommended for kids or others that don't want alcohol?

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Terri, the alcohol wont affect the taste or even left any traces as they evaporate so quickly....sometimes while we are still decorating we need to keep adding more alcohol as they evaporate into thin air lol 😋so no, you dont have to worry about serving any alcohol in your cookies, once the alcohol evaporate when you air-dry it, the gold lustre dust sets into the icing without any traces of liquid 😉👍

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Maryam, high content alcohol produces the best result, however as an alternative you can use essence/extract that has a higher content of alcohol but the result wont be as smooth as it might pit your icing

    • @pj8553
      @pj8553 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Natalie Cazalas Hi Natalie, if you want to use extract it needs to be a clear extract with a high alcohol content, do you know how many % is the alcohol content of your extract? I’m guessing if you are using lemon extract it will be yellow so it may change the colour of your gel colouring. Try and get a clear extract, if you don’t have one that is clear with high alcohol content you might need to use Vodka (it’s clear and usually has 40% alcohol content). Hope that helps 😉

    Beautiful work!
    My icing comes out of the tip broken and doesn't flow nicely. If I dilute it, it's too runny and won't hold shape. Any tips?

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SouthernSignatures hello, if your icing doesn’t flow nicely that means the consistency is too stiff, you need to add water little by little, I used a spray bottle to spray some water into my icing, and keep checking until you get the right consistency. I found the spray bottle is a vital tool to get the right icing consistency 😊 have you watched my Royal Icing Consistency video? That would help you get the right consistency to make decorating easier 😉👍

      Thank you! Since my question to you, I have since learned that using meringue powder as opposed to egg whites makes all the difference when writing or making flowers and details. The egg white recipe tastes far better, and for outlining and flooding it's great!

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi SouthernSignatures, so glad you have found a solution to your icing problem! Some people prefer to use meringue powders if they can easily access it in their countries. In some countries they are quite hard to find or only available at specialty baking stores, either way both royal icing can be used for decorating purposes 😉💖😊

      Hi Ana, i use a pocket projector and I write the words with edible marker as guidelines before i pipe the writing with royal icing. I'm horrible at free-hand writing so the projector really helped specially with the spacing issues that I usually get when i try to free-hand writing on cookie. Hope that helps 😉

    Can you use something other than alcohol to mix the food colouring gel with ?

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can also try a clear lemon extract or a tiny bit of water...just bear in mind that alcohol evaporates quickly whereas water sits on top of your icing and it will be damp for a while. If you use water you might also have a slight issue of pitting in your icing if you use too much 🙂

  • @WL1006

    i just starts to follow ur channel... so i wish to ask... every times after using royal icing ... need to rest aka dried for at least 30-60 min before applying another colour or painting?

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Wendy, if you are going to add another icing colour on top of the base icing then I would highly recommend letting it dry completely (at least 4-5 hours if you are air-drying or 30 mins in a dehydrator), if you dont wait until the icing is dry then you are likely to get colour bleed from the icing. The same rule applies if you want to paint with diluted food colours then make sure the base icing is completely dry before painting. Hope that helps 😉💖

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kayla, i know you can use a clear lelon extract but if you use any extract that is not clear (i think vanilla extract is usually brownish) it will affect the colours as well it might pit the icing. You can always use clear vodka as a replacement for rose spirit. The alcohol will evaporate quickly so you dont need to worry about the alcohol taste 😉

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Samreen, high content alcohol produces the best result and the alcohol evaporates so quickly that it dries almost straight away. However as an alternative you can try to use a clear essence/extract but the result wont be as smooth and it might also pit your icing if you put too much on.

    • @jkizondoswahilibites434

      The reason behind my question is am Muslim and I don’t consume alcohol. I appreciate your response anyway and Keep up the good work... love

    • @CookieliciousNZ
      @CookieliciousNZ  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Samreen, totally understand, however i just need to let you know that the alcohol doesn't stay on the cookie or the icing as when the lustre dust dries out the alcohol evaporate into the air and the only thing left behind is the lustre dust itself...so you wont be consuming the alcohol itself...it is only being used to apply the lustre dust.

    • @jkizondoswahilibites434
