As an instructor for esthetics, Estie school only teaches you the very minimum/ basics so you can get your 600 hours (in California) to take your exam for your license. You will NOT learn everything or be a professional Estie until you find out what you specialize in for yourself. Getting those certificates are so important to go into depth. Or hop on board with waxing at a spa or salon get your hands on experience as soon as you can
Do you have to take math courses?
Just signed up from school. I get a kit which includes an iPad an everything else I need, and it will take 5-7 months in ohio. I’m really excited! And your videos are getting me pumped

I’m in New York, registered for school last week and class begins next month. NY requires 600 hours and tuition is close to $10k. I’m super anxious but very excited and just ready to learn. This video was very informative. Thank you 😊

@@kamillagutierrez9006 I ended up going to New York School of Esthetics in white plains. Mostly because they offered more cert's with their program than the schools in the city. Many schools in the city had microdermabrasion as an advanced course but here it was included. But be advised due to Covid we weren't allowed to use the hot towel caddies or steamers. The schools in the city seemed to have done so though by conducting weekly covid rapid tests I also went there because I wanted to have the freedom of using my car.
i love your honesty when you spoke about how your skin will look going through school and getting practiced on, I also love how you gave that lovely glimpse of hope... that after school, we’ll have the knowledge to create our own skin care routine to have clean clear glowing skin ✨

I love HONEST reviews! I was looking into Cosmetology but I realized I'm more excited about Esthetics. It's a shame you had to start off your experience feeling outcasted. No one should ever feel that way. I worry because I've looked into it before and it's all high school kids and I'm in my 40's and all I hear about is the "drama." I do want my focus to be on clients my own age and older. But I'm afraid of how I'll be treated by other students while I'm trying to learn. It was the same for me in college.

Oh no! I’m 19 .. 18 when I started and in my class there is like a equal amount of 18-25 and 25+ we even had a 60 year old woman in our class as well and I genuinely enjoyed it! It was lots of knowledge and you really develops relationships w ppl 10 yrs older or even younger than you. I think it’s a beautiful thing. There’s nothing wrong with learning because that’s what we’re all there for. And we all are here to help one another!

I just finished my program! And I felt the same way going in. When I started the class, they were on chapter 10 and by the time I finished we hadn’t gone through the whole book so I had to do them on my own. So I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way!

Starting school in September super nervous but excited and eager to start this new journey and take on a career shift. I have my bachelors in Hospitality but skin care has always been something I’ve gravitated towards. Everyday I’m praying for the best!

The dental field sucks and is so underpayed!! Might go to esthetician school in April I love doing lashes and other beauty services !!

I also was a dental assistant for 15 years thinking about going to school to be an esthetician doing freelance makeup now just want to offer more and do lash extensions.
I’m really looking forward to lashes, makeup & body contouring but it’s good to know different things to set yourself apart. I was at a school for 3 months but ended up withdrawing because I wasn’t learning anything besides facials & waxing within that time frame they was literally just going day by day. Didn’t even get my kit the teacher was mixing products to use. My teacher ended up getting covid so that really pushed me to get out. I’m now deciding to go back but now not to have high expectations but to at least get my money’s worth. I really love beauty & know I’ll enjoy working in this field 🥰
I'd love to hear an update! How did it go? I'm mostly interested in makeup as well because I want to do bridal, did they ever end up focusing on it?
@@estherhinds6314 Since then I went to another esthetician school last year but financially it was too much for me to deal with at the time. I’m deciding to go back after I move. Right now I’m focused on practicing lash extensions so I can at least have my business going by the time I do go back. Good luck with everything!

I’m in Tampa & almost done w my program 😜! From my understanding there’s no such thing as a medical esthetician, they’re just esthetician’s with other certifications. But I’ve seen some school in Tampa that offer both programs as well
Congratulations! And yes I agree. A Medical esthetician is almost not real lol. I know people that went through the program and once they were out in the real world they said medical esthetician jobs really don’t exist

I’ll be starting classes in the spring 2021. I missed the October 2020 fall classes here in Connecticut. I can’t wait. For me becoming an Esthetician would mean a lot. I’m looking to help those whom are challenged with skin conditions as I was. I am a Lupus survivor, so I know the struggles. Would you be willing to share the book your professor gave you and if it can be purchased? I think this would be so helpful🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽I keep a SelfCare/SkinCare journal. Congratulations on your journey! And I know you’ve come a long way, I’m not sure if the book she gave can be purchased because it was mostly handouts that she created part of her curriculum. I’m sure your teacher would have something to give you once you’re in school. Like I said have the basics down and most of the learning is after you graduate. I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🥰

Girl this is sooo trueee I totally agree I’m going through it now … I’m in South Fl. I am going for full specialist nails and esthetician. Honestly I would say do not go in with high expectations. We currently have no official instructor. My temporary teacher name is Ms B aka Ms Brandy she is really good I wish she would stay and teach but she is leaving

Absolutely! It’s funny because my mom is planning to work with me once she retires in a couple years. But you have so much to offer in this industry. My clientele is mainly younger women but if you can tap into the “anti aging” world that is where the money is

Your school was very different as well. I would’ve never thought that they’d separate your certificates from your regular classes, or a rotation schedule like that. Florida only requires 260hours?? GA is 1,000 hours. Very different experience.

I am finally realizing, because of all of the time that I spend researching ingredients, and facials etc I realize firstly is in line with esthetician and then medical esthetician, and secondly I will have a lot of knowledge if I start doing this! I really am considering it! I am a single mom and put myself through computer software programming college but I am realizing that this is more of a passion for me. I also love doing make up so maybe I could take some classes on the side or get a makeup training somewhere and just do what I do. The only thing holding me back is finances. I am wondering.. what do most of the estheticians make on average, or what do yall make? Obvi if that is too personal I TOTALLY get it. But I am single now. I PLAN TO STAY single for awhile lmao. So I have to make sure I am able to support my kiddo and myself well :)

I think I know what school you’re talking about. My school was on rotation too. I was thinking about going to your school for laser but driving back and wroth from Orlando was going to be to much. I think that it was terrible to pay for the paper when you paid for tuition. I was so glad to leave my school. They had higher hours and FA. I had high expectations and got whatever.

I find it strange that Florida doesn't have an all encompassing "Esthetician license" that covers all those things you mentioned you needed certificates for. Here in Minnesota we have a 600 hour esthetics course which covers facials, basic extractions, facial and body scan focus massage, eyelash extensions and full body waxing. Our 500 hour advanced practice esthetics course which covers everything else - like advanced extractions, electrical modalities, chemical peels, dermaplaning, etc. I was lucky to graduate at a time when they first started the AP Esthetician License so I was able to grandfather without having to do an extra 500 hour course. It's interesting how different each state is, but it was great to hear your experience in school!
Yes Florida has the least amount of hours and training for esthetics. I really wish it was different. But I love hearing experiences from other estheticians so thank you for sharing. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hey I’m in Cali and I went to a beauty school to become an esthetician. Unfortunately I was unable to work on men I hope to do so in the future . I’ve only been out of school for about a month now . I still feel like I left without having as much knowledge as I would have liked . Was not able to learn how to do chemical peels , eye lash extensions, microdermabrasion etc . So I will learn some things on my own . Overall I’m glad I went through and finished the program .

Today was my 3rd day of class & ur correct about immediate hands on !!! My fellow classmates started at the same time (12 of us) 600hrs, 4 days week 5-9pm part time was only available atm!! We received a kit a few shirts & jacket (have to wear all white, scrubs 🤍) School was 10 grand i Appiled for financial aid, which I have to start paying back a small Percentage, 6 months after graduation 😌 $500 I paid in cash for $100 application & $400 for something I can’t remember at the moment, but either way I am beyond 😊 excited! Although your video started off negative I’m glad you remained positive 👏🏽 & got your certificate & shared with us , Very inspiring ! Oh by the way I live in Connecticut, atm, I plan to open spa in Florida near future 💕

It’s so crazy how SHORT Florida is, compared to Alabama where we have to have 1000+ hours and it’s close to a year long.
I’m so mad lol. And their hours are insane here. Legit like 8-10 hours a day, every day. Whyyyy is it so long in that case lol. I wanna go back to FL and get my license 😅

I’m considering a career change, my present company is offering a separation package and I’m thinking about it , however, it’s terrifying to take that leap because I’m 54 yrs old and i would be leaving a great job with great benefits. I’ve always been interested in an esthetician career and i have visited schools in the past for information, thanks again for sharing your experience.

I moved to Texas from Fl. We need 750 hrs here but they don’t separate certifications it’s all in one which is pretty cool based on what you’re saying. I was wanting to do it in FL But now I’m kinda happy I waited🤍

@@gabbie8205 I actually graduated from beauty school in march. i'd say definitely do a lot of research before picking a beauty school because a lot of places don't want to actually teach you and/or are very outdated in what they teach. i had a decent experience with the one i went to.

I wish you lived in Alabama. Even though they require 1,000 hours (8-9 months) to complete training in esthetics. At our school, microdermabrasion, derma plane, chemical peel, HydraFacial, Jet Clear, waxing, makeup application, basic facials (acne, anti-aging), electro current, brow and lash tinting, and more are INCLUDED. Certificates are given for most machine trainings. New students start in phase one, then after they complete 300 hours, they test into phase two. That way you're not confused sitting in a room with students that have been there. You also have the option to take advanced classes such as lash extension, electrolysis, microblading, micro needling, permanent makeup, paramedical tattooing, and more. No more than 20 students per class and they also offer cosmetology, manicure, and massage therapy! Your kit (professional grade Dermalogica products) and books are included in tuition. It's a small private school but doing amazingly big things!

Im in an esthetics course rn and its so much different than you describe. Im in Cali tho. So same thing about the 2 months having another group come in but they separate us by days. So freshman together and seniors together. So everyone starts from the beginning. But theres cosmotology and nail techs and barbers in this school too. My esthetics course is 600 hours and we dont need to pay for every certificate.

I want to go to school for this but when covid first started I was just finishing cosmetology school the whole zoom thing near the end was a struggle im just waiting for covid to be over with because I rather learn from experience in person then online through a zoom call

Ugh my program is $15k but it’s almost 700 hours so I guess it makes sense, wish I could’ve found a school for less
I think of it as, the more practice/experience the better? It does sound like a lot of time and money, but time is money!Good thing is you can start applying for positions soon after you’ve completed the courses and when they ask how long you went to school for, it’ll give a great impression!

So I know nothing about skin care and I have too get my esthetician too be able to get my lash extensions technician... what should I do ?
As long as you pass the esthetician course, you never have to look at skin care again lol I wish they were separate because one thing has nothing to do with the other. But in order to practice legally in most states you need an esthetics license

My dental assistant classes were the same way. I started in the middle of the program and many students were leaving when I was just starting. It wasn't a good experience at all and very pricey.

Here in GA, it's 1000 hours in order to take the state board exam and get licensed as an esthetician. My school is 9 months, and I'm paying $4500 out of pocket.
