Thank you so much for releasing this stretch movement. I've had a L5 S1 degenerative problem for 5 years and haven't been able to get back to my surfing. Since seeing this stretch movement I am completely out of the lower back pain that I experience daily. Thank you once again. Keep up the good work on the Tube Cris.
Early October 22’ i herniated my L4 disc, which ruined my ability to surf for at least 3-4 months. I had drop foot, sporadic back pain and poor front foot balance skill along with general weakness throughout my legs and core. Before the injury I was surfing almost everyday, I wish I knew this along with Foundation training back then. I’m just now starting to feel strong enough to surf again, it seriously sucked having to suffer from poor conditioning while fooling myself that I could just surf to stay fit.
Amazing! I’m currently away on a surf trip in Sri Lanka, 3rd day of intense surfing and woke up with this banging pain in the lower back. This stretch worked like magic.
Thank you for sharing the secret sauce on this stretch! Ive been doing this for years without focusing on lifting my heels towards the ceiling, inverting my toes inward or consciously reaching my arms in order to create space in my lower spine. Only doing it for a minute just before bed after a surf or maybe after a long day on my feet, makes a lot of sense to me. Looking forward to dialing this on in!
all the details you mention are the most relevant! glad to hear you've gotten benefit and insight from this. those positions help to "tension" the fascial system of the lower body so you can actually impart a force to the sacrum and help to de-coapt that space. it's a LEGIT movement with many benefits.
For people doing this at home, if you can ever see a certified coach for this, I highly recommend it. I did this with a PT for over a year and the small micro adjustments they can point out really make a huge difference in how much relief you get.
Cheers gents, Chris I've got the surf strength programme it's amazing and so comprehensive I've never moved through that much of it! As washed to get form right etc It made a massive difference and was genuinely surfing the best i have. Unfortunately I've had spine issues in my lower discs on and off for the past 15 months and found myself out of the water various times. Found this and only started it last night feels really good and shared to all my surfing mates. Can i please ask why the turning of the feet inwards? What does it achieve? Thanks keep the froth coming. Starting the surf athlete this week 💪🙌🤙
The internal rotation and dorsiflexion of the foot wrap up fascial tension of the lower body so it can actually impart a force, or de-coaptation to on the sacrum and pelvis. Without that fascial tension it’s kind of pointless and not having the desired effect. Good question! Thank you. Enjoy your training 🤘
Glad i saw this vid. been out of the water for 2 weeks so far due to what seems to be L5 minor disc issue. will give this a try along with the othet rehab.
proceed with awareness Zac. ELDOA's can be tremendously helpful with disc issues, but you need to proceed cautiously initially, and sub-maximal tension. You can easily irritate things if its done too hard or with improper positioning. If you dig it, check out the Surf Doa program in the Surf Athlete App. You'll learn the most relevant low back eldoas along with other parts of the spine, and comprehensive training programs for spine durability.
Damn Chris! My lower back has been killing me for months, never had issues with it before (I blame a dodgy couch, never buy a Koala sofa bed couch). This targeted exactly where my lower back is aching and sore, felt amazing, stoked! As always cheers legend 🤙🤙🤙
Do they work primarily on spine? I have a right shoulder that’s got this weird nervy feeling. I presume it’s a stability issue, but it would be rad to get a program for just joint stability.
One is completely passive (table) while the other actually integrates the body and it’s systems. Passive has its place in rehab but it’s exactly that, passive, and doesn’t do anything to teach or strengthen the musculoskeletal system
Yeah learning is dumb and for losers! I mean, he’s only talking about the complexity of the human body and the amazingly complex spinal column. Who needs to know this non-sense!! Learning sucks. 😂. Judging from your comment, you’re exactly the type of person that won’t benefit from ELDOA, as they’re inherently intellectual and require insight and awareness.

FT is great. The combo of FT and ELDOAs is amazingly powerful. FT and eldoas specific to your pathology / injury levels

Chris, please consider doing a video on improving mobility in bringing the knees to the chest (for pop-ups).
Please!

This is gold. Thank you so much
Thank you, for bringing this information to us. Much appreciated!!
could it be done with a stop sign post :? 🤔

Wholly crap.... I just did it and my back feels freaking amazing
Now you’re an addict. EVERYDAY 😊

stoked! I think I had a koala mattress a few years back... or one of the brands in Oz that shows up at your house in a box
I had a L5 S1 discetomy. Surfing is my passion. Also had a C5- C6 fusion in mid 90's
Any help is appreciated. 🙏

How does this compare with an inversion table?
One is completely passive (table) while the other actually integrates the body and it’s systems. Passive has its place in rehab but it’s exactly that, passive, and doesn’t do anything to teach or strengthen the musculoskeletal system
Wish it was less Talking
