Thank you so much!!! I watched your vid some years ago and lost it. Now I found you back!!! I'm so grateful for your simple and authentic explanation instead of all those glueing tutorials! Hugs from Italy
Thank you for this instruction video. My son has a unit on Native American study coming up at school and he has been assisted to creat a Coup Stick for his part as the Hunter Warrior. I’m trying to take this opportunity to not only create it with him, but educate both of us on the meaning and significance of each part of the Coup Stick.
Hope your native American. We take great offense to people who make our traditional items for a grade or profit. There are means and reasons why one can hold a coup stick and it becuz they have performed great deeds on the battle field or killed others of higher status then ones self. Drawing a picture would be more appropriate . than to have made one if you are of non native decent.
2nd time i've watched your authenticity, on tying up Ur Coup Stick. ✊I have found feathers on my path for many years..After watching ur inspiring video...no frills/ real deal.. Will def. Wrap a few of my own...most Sacred to me...along w medicine bag @ so on. Thank you4 a great video @ sharing a beautiful thing. Love the culture. Smudging @ Prayers
Forgive me..! Blame it in Cannibus.😉 The Feather Tie! , Amazing @ THAT was what i was commenting on. But Im recently carving a Coup Stick w feathers. My brain is In a couple places...All Good Medicine tonight.
For those who just have trouble with sinew being too sticky to deal with, consider using DNC embroider thread to wrap..It works perfect on a quill, not the traditional way but a huge choice of colors is another plus.
@John A friend's mother gifted me a hawk's feather, (the feather itself was significant because it had inspired her son's name.) I wanted to respectfully incorporate it into something, to honor her gift and wanted to know what I should do beyond just wrapping it if it was for neither a vision quest (though it sounds like it was much closer to that) nor a coup.
This is really cool. I'll be honest and say that I have no idea what a coup feather is, or it's cultural significance, but I have a crow feather I'd like to shore up and use on a magic staff I recently made, and this technique will really help.
refers to the winning of prestige against an enemy by the Plains Indians of North America. Warriors won prestige by acts of bravery in the face of the enemy, which could be recorded in various ways and retold as stories.
Chris Blackford it is illegal to have a Crow feather or any other migratory bird feather if not in a federally recognized tribe nor without a permit if you are in a tribe
Sad Bakersfield California doesn't have any American Indian or Native American stores that sell these authentic items or authentic Native American jewelry. I used to live in Fresno but they shut down all the Native American stores due to the pandemic. Nothing's been the same since! All I can find is what's online and all that is fake, would like to"authentic". Lakota Sioux American Indian here and just starting out on how to make customized Native American jewelry but as mentioned there is nothing out there authentic anymore!
Hobby lobby sells it with the bee wax on it that helps it to prevent to unraveling if urs I'd doing it just go buy bees wax crazy crow trading post sells it or any bead company sells it
I had a dog that would steal out of the neighbors yard so I’m making him a coup stick with all the brave things he did while he stole from the neighbors
Apparently you cannot pick up feathers in a park or conservation area or any protected area nor can you pick up sticks and use them as walking sticks because you're interfere with the ecosystem. It's one stick to you but when you have 100 people go through it's 100 sticks and these sticks you have little bugs and creatures that rely on them to live underneath and therefore you are not allowed to pick them up nor are you allowed to pick up feathers in parks and conservation areas you are only allowed to pick up feathers along the street These are my thoughts and opinions from my readings and research. I might be right I might be wrong. It's only my opinion purely for my entertainment purposes only. You are quite welcome to do your own research and I would be happy to read your comments as well
Khaos LeCroy no sitting bull instead spit on those so called pioneers who are illegal immigrants and who call themselves "Americans" Aka illegal Squatter's!!! If sitting bull we're alive today he'd be loughing at you foreigners as your so called United States of America becomes unglued at it's core!!! Your collapse is imminant!!! NATIVE INDEPENDENCE!!!
It is illegal in Canada, USA and Great Britain to be in possession of feathers of any migratory bird, such as ducks or geese, or any bird of prey. Even feathers of the American Crow are illegal!!!! How do you get around this to make your stuff??? It is specifically stated that no feather shall be used for costumery or jewelry. Please tell me. I need to know!!!
Don't know where you got that from?? IT IS NOT ILLEGAL to possess the feathers you mention. Your pillow, winter jacket etc etc are probably filled with duck/goose feathers & down.
Joseph Shore you are given them. Should there be a dropped feather, different peoples have respect rights for the bird and the manner in which a bird "loses" or "gives" a feather. It is always best to ask your tribal elder a question- bringing your question with a respectful gift of sage/tobacco, cloth/blanket, & food. If you are not native, you can still consult with a tribal council in your region, and don't ever take a feather from national parks & recreation area's, nor a tribal land. Most feathers sold are turkey feathers, synthetics, or other legally harvested bird or fowl, and can be found in local craft stores or bait & tackle shop.
1st off: What tribe are you from? 2nd: what do it mean to you to present a vid of that nature? Real indigenous people don't show off and make item's of that nature for themselves. The are earned in a proper setting.

Ashkia Trujillo word, straight up cultural appropriation. Exactly why we’re always hesitant to share our culture with other people especially whites.
Thanks for this. I have started carving flutes and wanted to add more decorative items. This is perfect.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You explained attaching a feather so wonderfully! Thank you!
I have no idea how I ended up with this video. I enjoyed it though. Thank you for sharing.
Pine resin glue sounds good thanks for the idea. Ill surely look into that thanks

Thank you! I use this Every time I bind :)
Thank you so very much!
How do you fix the end so you can clip in the hair? ...or tie?
I too would like to know
When they used real sinew they probably used hide glue it forms a tight bond with the sinew much better than pine resin does
Thanks for your video, very straight-forward. I have seen copper cones for sale, as well as silver and gold. Does copper color have any significance?
Liked and subbed, thank you for the video John

Shadow you forgot the pictorials which were drawn that went with the story

I've been itching to make a Sioux style lance, but I want it to be more than just a blade on a stick. Now I can do it properly.

Guys, can anyone tell me the name of the feather rope in the video?

Crazy Crow will have more or less everything you need. I'll get odds and ends from there all the time.
www.crazycrow.com/metal-cones
Do you have a tutorial on how to tie a feather to leather
Do exactly what he did in the video, except use leather string instead.
I tried that but the beads, cones etc. openings were too small. Had to buy more with larger openings.
@@yosemitelove2231
what do you wrap the feather with
Sinew string
cool handy Man.
Nice work
thanks :)
Silver for a coup, gold for vision quest, huh? I don't know who told you that, but they lied to you. 😅😅😅
I have found many feathers in my life.
Sitting bull never used a thin layer of super glue on feathers maybe a little spit

Yeah you have to chew the sinew if it was too tough.
In my opinion super glue is disrespectful to the eagle 🦅 feather

Joseph Shore Police officers are too busy harassing/killing minorities to even care about feathers
You can be in possession of feathers if you're enrolled in a federally recognized tribe.

Beeswax or pine resin works well too. You can look up how to make pine resin glue, its fairly easy.
Gosh, I’m not sure. Sorry.
