MLS was never good. Messi is going to elevate it, yes, but what will truly catapult MLS to unseen heights is eliminating the salary cap because then clubs can buy amazing players at better prices and a pro/rel system. Messi will help us with that.

In order to do that, MLS needs to do two things: 1: eliminate the salary cap and 2. Use a pro/rel system.

@@orlandomartinez4085 Don Garber addressed this recently. He said he is open to it but sees it as an unrealistic endeavor for now. He sees it as something that can happen in the future when the sport becomes very popular. Look it up!

Third biggest league in terms of viewers? That I could imagine. But not in terms of quality of the teams. The best players all want to play Champions League and play for or against the legendary clubs with a lot of history.
If the US could somehow partipate in the CL then that would make it more possible. But that of course won't work logistically.
I also think the MLS needs to think about how to implement relegation in order to raise the stakes for the matches of the bottom teams.
The same was said when Beckenbauer or Pele or Gerd Müller etc etc etc arrived. America COULD be a monster football nation....but American football, Basketball and Baseball are literally ingrained culture.... football not so much....and Im not for sure that can be changed.

These guys are clueless by trade "reporters" when it comes to football. Don Garber I expect more from, he lied when he said "league of choice"! He wanted to return to Barcelona 100%. But since they screwed up big time financially and could not guarantee him registration for league play, he wanted no part of another emotional circus that they put him through the last time. He is sick of crying on TV for Barcelona so he wanted a different experience. He sure doesn't have the pressure he had in Europe that is for sure. The product (competition) is inferior to elite leagues. It's a reality of our structure.

biggest mistake mls is making is its exclusive deal with apple, now that messi is in the league mls is not just for america now its for the world, alot of third world countries cant get appletv for average citizen, they need to get deals with tv channels too.
Third world places ain't exactly getting access to US cable TV channels either.
@@Fjaloeat1 I am not talking about the US cable TV channels, europeans leagues like Premier league or laliga, bundesliga, serie A and even ligue 1 dont only air in england France germany spain or just europe, the matches are aired all over the world in african and asian countries cable tv channels, thats what gives these clubs so much money to have a squad worth more than the entire MLS franchise for just one team, being relegated to a lower league is huge blow for the teams because those leagues are not aired everywhere in the world and cuts player wages by almost half forcing them to sell the best players of the team, mls cant afford to pay the players even half wht europe pays because they dont make as much, and they aren't making money with broadcasting rights around the world, before it might've been because no one wants to see mls, but now this is an opportunity, Messi's debut match proved this, everyone will be wanting MLS broadcasting rights and MLS needs to capitalize.
