- Eastleach is a village located in the Cotswolds, a picturesque region in southwest England. It is actually divided into two parts: Eastleach Martin (also known as Great Eastleach) and Eastleach Turville (Little Eastleach), which are situated on opposite sides of the River Leach.
The history of Eastleach dates back to the Roman period, as evidenced by the remains of a Roman villa discovered in the area. The village itself, however, emerged as a Saxon settlement in the 8th century. The name "Eastleach" is derived from the Old English words "east" (meaning east) and "leac" (meaning stream), referring to its location on the eastern side of the River Leach.
During the medieval period, Eastleach became a prosperous agricultural village. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as Estleche, and it was listed as having a church, a mill, and arable land. The two parts of the village, Eastleach Martin and Eastleach Turville, were distinct manors with their own manor houses and estates.
St. Michael and St. Martin's Church, located in Eastleach Martin, is a notable historical landmark in the village. The church dates back to the 12th century and features Norman and Gothic architectural elements. It has a unique wooden spire that is visible from a distance and is often referred to as the "Cathedral of the Cotswolds."
In the 19th century, Eastleach experienced some industrial development with the construction of a water mill and a steam mill. However, the village remained predominantly agricultural, with farming being the primary occupation of its residents.
Today, Eastleach retains much of its historic charm and is known for its picturesque cottages, stone bridges, and tranquil countryside setting. It has become a popular destination for visitors interested in experiencing the Cotswolds' traditional English village atmosphere and exploring its rich history.

Another great video, thank you, Kevin. When you give close-ups of the roses, I am convinced I can actually smell them. I would like to comment on one of the main features to me of this village, and of the villages of the Cotswolds, the dry stone walls. Dry because no mortar is used until placing the top line of uprights which are there to prevent intrusion by animals and humans. Imagine how hard it was to build these walls wIth nothing more than a heap of stone and having to construct like a jigsaw puzzle, pieces each weighing 1 or 2 kilos. Bent over all day long fixing them Into a tight secure structure. Not many could do thIs beyond their 40s, as either their backs or hands would go. One of the many reasons the older men of the village were stooped over using walking sticks. Let's appreciate the fantastic work they did, which provides us with the beauty of the Cotswold villages today. Thanks for showing this Kevin.

I don't know when an English village is more beautiful - in the winter or summer. In the winter it has a charm of the Ice Queen., in the summer - wood nymph. 🧚♀️

For some reason I liked this walk more than Kingham, less ordered, more variance in its presentation, even the Portaloo at the beginning of the video somehow didn’t look out of place, I get the impression that most of the walks are walked early morning before the sun gets up, really the Cotswold stone and architectural features are best displayed in sunshine to show their true beauty, no sun makes for a dull day, having said all that your walks are already nice, and to be highly commended, where I live in middle England on a busy main road with over 8000 vehicles a day, during the writing of these comment six ambulances have gone rushing up towards the hospital with sirens blaring, so you see I appreciate the peace and tranquility that you videos afford, thank you

There's so much bird singing in this video that I am baffled. Where I live, the number of smaller birds has been reduced so much that I rarely see or hear any and the early morning bird-concert that I used to hear is no more...

They're private houses not open to tourists. Why would you think you could look inside? It's not a theme park.
Though video is 2160 the picture in general looks smeared and of somewhat low quality. Can you please buy another camera? Such places deserve to be shot superbly. Still thank you very much for your vids. That are great!
