    Mike Treaadway from Treadway Bows told me YEARS Back I Hunt and Take Elk with my 40/45 # Bows. I had complete Reverse shoulder replacement last November. 4 days before my 68th Birthday.Why? I let it go for 4 years. By that time My Bicep and rotator cuff were blown out besides My shoulder joint. I can already shoot My 40# Black Widow PCH III. My Shoulder hasn't felt this good since High School! Light Bow poundage works with the proper arrow.

    If you don't want to go out and buy another batch of arrows, you can up the point/insert weight on your current weaker spine arrows to increase the arrow weight and foc, AND offset the "nock left" by gluing a second layer of leather on the window of bow. This will push the arrow away from the bow about an 1/8th of an inch farther and correct nock left. I have glued a third layer on the shelf window to adapt to a significantly heavier point and it worked perfectly. It allowed me to go from a 150 point to a 200 grain point. My FOC went from 15 to 18 percent and my arrow went from 510 to 560 grains. Zwickey No Mercy broadheads are affordable and have a good slope for mechanical advantage penetration and work well out of lighter bows. I had shoulder problems and had to back off my poundage as well.

    Fantastic. I'm shooting heavy as well.....man it just takes all the bull#$$ crazy stuff out of the shot. Makes it easy.....all the finicky stuff with release and stuff goes out the window.....makes that arrow go straight as a dart. Great video. Man don't chase speed. Chase easy. And wow a heavy arrow makes a trad bow soooooo sniper quiet

    I use the same arrow cut to 31.25 with a 205 grain Simmons Safari and standard aluminum insert. That gives me a 525 grain arrow. I shoot this out of a 40@28 Bodnik Quick Stick longbow. I have no doubts about the lethality of this setup.

    I used to be in the spead trap with a heavy bow and light arrows. Now I have dropped down nearly 20 pounds and double my arrow weight. It sure is easier on me at almost 60.

    Thanks for the excellent instructions. They are much appreciated. I'm just getting back into archery and setting up a bow. I was told to agust arow light be adjusting brace hight by twisting or untwisting the string. No mention of bare shaft tuning. So, as a bow builder and an excellent archer, what's your advice on brace hight and adjustment?
    When I get a chance I'll be back shaft tuning. Thanks! Paul

    This is very helpful, thank you both. I’ve been following your videos for a while now and I’m very interested to know why you switched back from three under to split finger. I finally switched to three under for my instinctively shot, 35# Super Grizzly at 29” draw. I immediately saw tighter groups at 9 yards but had to let my sight picture develop to get back on center. I’d decided to try three under after failing to eliminate the bare shaft nock high on my GT Hunter 30” 500 spine, carbon with 125 grain field point at 9 yards in my basement. I read quite a bit about bare shafting carbon and came away with the feeling that carbon arrows always did this a bit and/or my top finger of my split finger draw was putting downward pressure on the arrow nock. After 100 arrows I was back on with 3 under at up to 35 yards (following your suggestion to shoot long to develop greater accuracy at shorter ranges) and feel that now switching between the two styles might be like switching between left hand and right hand drive cars, not too difficult when you’ve experienced both. I’m 73 and 8 months into instinctive archery after a compound bow related shoulder injury 20 years ago. I greatly appreciate the work you are doing to share your knowledge. Thank you.

      Well it just kinda happened for me the other night when I was setting up my 56” recurve for hunting with 680gr arrows and it just had a twinging sound every second or third shot and I knew it was from how I was releasing it and unfortunately my best shots were the louder ones so, I tried split and it was silent every shot no matter what and I was hitting really tight groups also and that’s when I grabbed every bow and started adjusting the nock down a hair and re bare shafted every one to perfection, now I’m just enjoying the ultra quiet bows and definitely back used to it 😁

    Hey Jeff, just wanted to share another method of curing nock high. I have done this with several bows but my current bow is a 39# (at my draw) Super Grizzly. I simply could not get nock high cured shooting 3 under or split. I took the Bear Hair rest off and replaced with a Bear Weather Rest. Immediately got perfect arrow flight. I already had left and right corrected. Now, I don't really like using the elevated rest BUT it works. It's not just this bow, I've had the same experience with my Bob Lee Signature and '59 Kodiak. Hopefully, someone will find this helpful.

      @@anthonyvarela951 You might try a Weather Rest or some other elevated one just to see if it cures it. I'm using 4 inch parabolic feathers so I wouldn't think it would be a feather problem. It works for my Super Grizzly, so that's how I'll run it.

    Jeff: would you say nocking about 1/2 inch above Centre for split finger is a good rule for all bare bow recurve - regardless of #age?
    Thanks

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes sir that’s correct especially for draw lengths up to around 28” and then you can slightly go up as needed with the nock if the arrow still has a tail high tendency in flight but it’s a perfect starting point for sure 👍🏻

  • @blind-dateoutdoorssportsma547
    @blind-dateoutdoorssportsma547 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Questions. An arrow bends in the same way every time, right? How do you test to know which way that is, to ensure your arrow is not bouncing off the riser or the shelf? Ideally, I want it to bend away from the riser, archer's paradox.

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes sir every bow is different as in how deep the shelf is cut and that determines spine choice, arrows will naturally bend around the strike plate but too stiff won’t it’ll actually deflect during the natural bend and then have a tail right reaction for a right handed shooter and without feathers to help correct it as in a bare shaft it’ll fly to the target tail right whereas a weak shaft won’t come out of the natural slight bend and stay tail left, I’m going to do some slow motion videos on all that hopefully it’ll be cool to watch!
