Since the time of this video, Fritz has made a huge leap forward in his game. He's now 31 in the world (as of July 2019) and just beat Berdych in the 1st round of Wimbledon. Playing crazy good tennis. My criticism of Fritz (to the extent that a 4.5-5.0 player can criticize a world class player at all) is that he's essentially a defensive player in an offensive player's body. I have a similar issue with my own game. Fritz wants to grind it out from the baseline. And if he was built like Borna Coric, that would be fine. But he's not. He's a really big kid with big weapons. He should be using his serve and groundstrokes to move forward. I think he's about 6'4 or taller. Tough to pass him at the net. But he's nowhere near as fast as Kwiatkowski, so why sit back and try to grind it out with him? Still, he seems to have turned things around in a big way. He's still really young, even though it seems like he's been around for a while.
I was rooting for Thai-Son at the last US Open. I thought he'd have good future but now watching this I think it'll be hard for him to get in the top 100.
I feel like it is. It's my 4th year of playing tennis, I'm playing for a junior college, and I feel I can match up pretty well with there performance today lol #sorrynotsorry
Wyatt Bender You're kidding. You dont know how hard these guys hit. Junior College is nothing close to these guys. If you're in the top D1 school then you may have a chance. There is a reason they are top 100 and making a living out of it while you're just a unknown from some unknown college.
Kyle H Stfu😂😂💀 I hate dumbasses like you on TH-cam claiming to be better at something than a pro tennis player, cmon now, Djokovic will kill you in a 1v1, I bet u won’t win 1 game against him
Well this is ironic - I hate dubmasses who can't judge sarcasm, I know it's through words/text but u still should have known. Btw, I know I couldn't beat Nole, he has one of the best if not the best backhand ever. Dumbass, not too be too harsh, you can't hear my tone of voice, promise I'm not being too serious :-)
@@firstlast7994 Me too Mr. Lastname, it's surprising how some people just don't get it even with an over the top comment full of sarcasm, but that tells you something about a person who believes things like that.
I'm sorry but i just can't take Taylor Fritz seriously...the fact he even made it to the third round of the autralian open 2019 shows how weak the newer generations of tennis are.
Not understanding your logic here, he beat Monfils to reach the 3rd round, albeit an injured Monfils. Not only that he won against Cam Norrie who was running hot and feeling confident from his week prior in New Zealand. Fritz is a ranked 60-35 player at his current state and is battling to stay there. There is literally 10 players 21 and under in the top 100. And just to add to that, this time in 2008, there was only 4 players in the 21 and under category in the top 100. Del Potro, Cilic, Gulbis, and Nishikori. That's some phenoms homie. If anything the old gen is the one that's weak and this is coming from a die hard fan of the golden era of 2004-2016. Anyways...
@@richieortiz5 Anyways... yeah...the old gen is weak...that is why they still dominate slams into their mid to late 30's where history shows that players reach their peak stride of a career at 26. Delpo's generation is still a strong generation, but it starts going down hill from there. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray were all fresh around that era suppressing some amazing players like Delpo for just one example. However They don't call Dmitrov's generation the lost generation for no reason. It isn't that the old generation is weak. You just had players like Federer come along and take the game to new heights. Looks like the only players that were smart, disciplined, and driven enough to catch onto what Federer was doing and take it even farther on a consistent level were the other big 3. Murray is gone now and when the other big 3 retire or just get too old it is a huge gap of talent. A big void. Even if Players like Tsitsipas starts winning slams when the big 3 are long gone; you put Tsitsipas against Federer, Djokovic, Nadal in their prime and they would eat him for breakfast and make him cry mommy along with any of these other next gens. Keep up the good work though...homie :D
@@leroydavis236 Yeaaah dude my comment just flew right over your head. I agree with everything you're saying but it had nothing to do with your original comment on a weak 'new gen' due to Fritz losing in the 3rd round. Do you really expect any younger guy to win a slam with the big 4 still contending? Big 4 wiped out every current and future champion when they walked on the scene and dethroned Roddick in his prime. So yeah say what you will but it has nothing to do with 'new gen being weak.'
@@richieortiz5 the only reason there are more new gen's under 21 in the top 100 than normal is because the generation before them is weak. Not because they are necessarily just " that good." We will see in a few years how some of them step up. As far as Taylor fritz goes the guy reminds me of a decent top college player more than a top pro...not impressed. Below average atp potential talent that normally shouldn't even make it to the 3rd round of a slam the gangly guy.
Mr. Toilet 😂 bruh if anyone’s lame ass comment made me laugh in this comment section it’s yours, you can’t beat these guys nor will you ever, these dudes are pros now making millions, while you’re sitting here saying you’re a “top high school level” lol give me your name and I’ll search it on TH-cam
Alright bro you can chill out lol I didn’t actually mean I could beat these guys. Obviously if I’m only high school level I can’t beat them. I was just saying there is A TON unforced errors and so many rallies of just feeding to the forehand. This isn’t a very skillful match.
11:35 Oh my god, man.
15:53 “jump so high sometimes” idk why but that made me laugh so hard
and then he says "and sometimes it doesnt" and then cutts off hahaha
14:10 both players thought the serve was out 😂

He's #12 in the world now!
Thats some big serving from both guys
I follow college tennis. Thai Son Kwiatkowski has mad skills.
So cool to see Thai still grinding. He used to beat my friends and I in juniors even though he was 3 years younger than us.
If i had either one if these guys serve my tennis game would be on the next level.

18:02, it's definitely out
5 years later, Fritz is a top 8 player and Thai Son is nowhere to be seen. Crazy how careers work out
Is this high school tennis?
Trolls are out in full force today
Yeah, I can't tell if people are trolling or if they're actually retarded. Fritz it like 75 in the world right now lmao.

junior college lol wtf. no dude. not even d1 would have a chance. you don't realize until you're on the court. good joke
One year later Thai is now the Newport Beach Challenger champion!!!
Any player who wins ncaa tournament should do well in pros
My aunt has that same outfit.
nice footie
thai son must be related from thailand
Based on the name Thai Son, highly he is Vietnamese related :).
He's vietnamese and polish
Has to work on footwork.. even in warm up was lackadaisical
pshtt ..4.5's the best..........and my backhand is better than Djokovic's, just sayin'
