2004 late fall, I’m at a course on a Sunday afternoon waiting for my tee time. Naturally I was checking out the pro shop and happened upon a Mizuno blade putter that also had Bettinardi inscribed into it. Curious, I picked it up because I have a lot of Mizuno in the bag, but checked out the feel and liked it. I then looked at the price tag, which was WAY more than I was comfortable paying. The guy at the shop said to take it with and play my round with it, so I did. Honestly it was incredible. I remember thinking there’s no way I can justify the cost to my wife, so sadly brought it back and told the pro thanks, but it’s just too much. He said tell you what, it’s end of season and I need to move inventory, will you give me $125 for it? Yessir! Yes I will!
That putter has been in the bag ever since. It still has the original grip and head cover and has been my trusted pal for twenty years. It turns out to have been a helluva bargain. I’m not sure about these new irons though. Mizuno has treated me well for many years also. It would take a lot to put something else in the bag, but admittedly the Bettinardi’s do look very nice.

Great review Rick…. So, I know you have tons of stuff to review, but if I could make a request…. I’m from the states, and there’s a smaller club builder brand named Maltby and they’re part of The Golf Works brand. They have a blade that came out last year called the Maltby TS4. They are very affordable, about 60. Dollars a head. Listen, I’ve hit everything under the sun!! You name it, I’ve played it. These TS4’s for me are some of the softest blades I’ve ever hit, and they’re super forgiving, I don’t say that lightly, Im dead serious, they are quite possibly the most forgiving true blade I have ever hit AND the softest. They are a true solid billet design forging. If there is anyway you could get a set and review them I’d appreciate it and I’m sure your viewers as well!! Thank you for all you do Rick. I follow you religiously.

I think its an outstanding looking iron to me ! , But then I played the 1996 Callaway Big Berta irons that looked like tanks ....LOL..... the looks of an iron have never bothered me, I have played about every iron out there over the past 49 years!!! I think the craziest irons I ever played were the Cleveland VAS irons. And they played very well , Corey Pain won a major with them !

I had the Mizuno C-5 half-mallet putter from that collaboration effort between Bettanardi and Mizuno. I went to an Iron Demo Day and the Mizuno rep had the C-5 as his personal putter and let me take it to the putting green. It took me a few years to track one down, and sadly, it was among the clubs I subsequently lost in a burglary.

Learned over the years that too much offset really throws my brain for a loop. Just can not hit the ball straight consistently with any large offsets, in a 5 iron all the way down to wedge. However, I do like traditional iron lofts. Mainly looking for distance control in irons. As my swing got better, I switched from "distance" irons to more traditional type and my scores improved instantly. The game is much easier when you hit the ball straight-ish😅

Don’t you think that as a “foot in the door” first set if they’d have come in like cobra did with F9 driver that little bit cheaper they would have got interest up and then just push the r&d to get alongside the big guns! 🤷🏻 just sayin..plenty of bag appeal!

What in the heck is "work experience"?
I started working at age 6, is that when I started my "work experience"?
    Retired at 59.
I highly recommend it over "work experience".

@@lescook9021 It very well could be. I know some professions have a requirement that you shadow someone for an amount of years. But, really, it could be any scenario since he didn’t specify haha.

Their gorgeous but for $1600, nah. Not close. Was a good attempt at their first attempt at irons. They're never compete with big brands or Takoma. Thanks for reviewing these Rick. We take these reviews serious

Personally, I don’t mind the sharp/straight front edge of the irons, but I do agree that the hosel looks bulky and kind of out of place.

The MBs look and perform better than the CBs. It is less offset and better through the turf.
