Simple, Badass, Tone from hell, Ronnie Montrose was a force back in the early 70’s. He doesn’t get enough love. The 1973 self titled album Montrose was one of the decades BEST rock albums.
Pretty good drummer and bass player, and yet WOW just with one of the all time greatest rock guitarists, makes it sound like 10 in the band. How does that happen?! Great singer too, who reminds me of James Dewar from Trower. What a guitarist. Will never forget taking the plastic off of the Montrose album. RIP Mr. Montrose
So sad ,depression you never know what its like unless you have it ,you see Ronnie on stage looking like he is having a good time ..but deep down he was probably hurting inside .. losing his uncle and his dog on top of this possibly tipped him over the edge ..His music will live on ,some of the Best Rock Riffs / songs in history ..The simplicity of the riffs with a great sense of rhythm is what made them ..thanks for the music Ronnie ...i wish i could have met you in person ..R.I.P.
I'm so happy I got to see him in concert. It was during the Warner Brothers presents Montrose album. Montrose opened for Foghat who opened for Black Oak Arkansas.
Ronnie Montrose a absolute monster on the guitar and responsible in so many ways for arguably one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all time without a doubt and titled as MONTROSE. RIP R.M.
Watching this on Christmas Eve 2022, oh Ronnie, you were such a loss. Too young to see Montrose although I loved them , Gamma I saw live at Manchester In the 80's. Such a great loss, a fantastic musician and man.
I saw him in his heyday at Rockefellers in Houston, he was awesome. Such a talent! Rock Candy & Rock the Nation. A true rock N roller! U can see it here. 🎸💞🙏
i met Ronnie back in the 80s when he did i stint with the band RAIL he was so cool and we had so much fun i miss him what a great guy thanks for the great time we had Ronnie
What an incredible treasure. Ronnie was truly a master originator on guitar. Legendary even back in the 1970’s when he was creating the incredible tone he spoke thru his guitar 🎸
Sammy Hagar's evil twin !! In 73 I saw Ronnie playing for the Edgar Winter group. Was blown away by Ronnie's playing and antics in his white jump suit. A year later saw Montrose warming up for Humble Pie. Montrose tore the place up, Denny kicked a hole in his bass drum, the roadies hauled Humble Pie's bass drum out for him, threw a towel over the "Humble Pie" logo and they kept going. They blew the roof off that auditorium that night. Ronnie is unforgettable.
this just smokes. Power trio with a great vocalist. Ronnie on fire. Been a fan since i was 15. One of my all time guitar heroes. Glad to see him playing these classic songs. Looks like they are having a ball. Rock n Roll.
Never got a chance to see him but was certainly an musical influence on me, i remember learning a few of his songs, they were fairly simple but not simple to play with his kind of finesse ! Excellent vocalist, bass and drums !!!
Ronnie was my first guitar hero before Eric and Jimmy Page. Saw him at Wow Hall in Eugene, OR circa 2011. So much fun! His playing is so much fun to listen too!
This is so cool. Seeing Ronnie old still rocking brings smiles to my face and fires me up all over again. RIP Guitar God Versatle singer. Has a good Sammy voice and I'll bet he covers Bad Co. tunes also very good.
So Great!!! Any rocker growing up in California in the 1970's remembers this great song. So many memories. Take's me right back to Sunken City in San Pedro, Ca. 1979. Smoking dope and rocking. Oh yeah, drinking 32 oz Budweisers too. Great Post.
This reminds of me getting together with some old highschool friends from back when playing in bands was total S..t!!!! In the 80s!!!! Back in the day sometimes we would jam in someones garage or at a school hall!!! Getting back together to play and jam for sheer fun and joy of the music!!!!😊😊😊😊😊 RIP Ronnie!!!😢🥲 I miss you as a cool ROCK/musician who influenced me!!!! And many other musicians!!! Out there!!!!😊
I don't know how may times I have watched this, Thank you! The band is tight, Randy Scoles is A+ on vocals. Great find by Montrose. Would have been cool they would have recorded some new music together. RIP Ronnie
met ronnie in newcastle england 1975 or76 on the warner brothers presents tour, told him after that performance i would throw away my guitar.met him ten years later,he remembered me and asked me if i'd thrown the guitar away.i told him i now had four and after watching gamma all four would go in the bin.GENIOUS sadly missed
Ronnie had a great memory for his fans. I met him at a show in Sacramento where he opened for Trower on. the Speed of Sound tour. When a mutual friend introduced us, the first thing he did was HAND ME HIS GUITAR! Neck like a baseball bat. He just knew I played. I thanked him for all the great music, and told him I loved his tone. He offered to sell me the rig when the tour was over. I took him up on that, and used it for years. Every time I saw him after that, it was first name basis. He made you feel important enough to remember. I loved him for that as much as for his incredible chops and tasty phrasing!
"I Got The Fire" = rifforama ecstasy! Ronnie up close and just killing it with his ferocious tone and always tasty choice of notes! Heaven gained yet another master musician!
Great stuff. So sorry he left us in such agony. It seems so strange that someone who could go nearly anywhere in the world and play great music to legions of fans could find reasons to check out just 4 months after this performance. Such a pity. By all accounts Ronnie was respected as a top player and truly nice human being. Hey though, Randy Scoles sure can belt it out, great singer.
Hey man, thanks for your kind words ❤️ I was fortunate enough to know him during his last 8 years. He was, and still is one in a million. He was very kind to myself and "my band" how to get along, keep working, and move forward. His cell number is still on my phone, along with others who have moved on. Thank you for showing so much respect for Ronnie. He deserves it ❤️
This ia ABSOLUTELY AMAZING THEY SOUND SO GOOD.. Voyager brings me to Tears evertime I here it ...reminds me of my Dad ! Rip POPS AND RONNY YOU'LL LIFE FOREVER.
I was there that night. I catered the after party for Ronnie's 64th birthday. Ronnie and his wife Leighsa were super cool. Listening to Ronnie tell stories about the different bands and people on the wall of pictures was awesome.
1972 Ronnie Montrose was the Frankenstein in Edgar Winters Band. A Guitar Monster witnessed during a Georgia Tech Concert that year with West, Bruce and Lang the headliner. Thanks Ronnie, your missed.
So sad that Ronnie not here. I was shocked when I looked him up on wiki and read that his passing was self inflicted. I knew he had prostate cancer and suffered. So sorry Ronnie, you are missed!
Thanks Stephanie. I had that voice about 30 years ago myself...I've sang most of Montrose's 1st three albums in various bands. Now only Sammy sings like Sammy...lol

Steve Brown (little 'bad ass' brother of Wild Mick Brown - from Dokken) on drums. Dan McNay on Bass- currently plays with Great White. and...that's Randy Scoles singing; who currently is in The Greg Golden Band. all these fine gentelmen getting to play with Ronnie, are Sacramento Boys. of course, that other fella, Legend Guitarist Ronnie M...needs no introduction. this outfit was tops. and what a thrill it must have been for all of them to have the privilege to play with Ronnie, and be afforded this amazing experience. Kudo's to them all. Guys...this is Glenn, from Northrup. great Video and Setlist here.
Einfach großartig, die Klassiker von Montrose in diesen starken Liveaufnahmen noch einmal zu hören. Ein unterschätzter Musiker und einer meiner Gitarrenhelden.Möge er in Frieden ruhen. 🎸🙏
Ya know? The three other guys are rock solid, and truly stellar. But even they can''t help being a fan, and are blowin' away. "I'm playing with RONNIE MONTROSE"! But you boys deserved playing with RM.

Glad I heard this , about to bias my amp tonight. Definatly going to set it a little hot
This is one year before Ronnie died, it's very sad. We will always love you, you were one of the greatest. RIP Ronnie Montrose.
The drummer looks like he's really enjoying himself. What a band!
Steve is in Tesla now. 🤘🏽
Vocalist is somewhat of a cross between Sammy Hagar and Paul Rogers... at least to my ears. Great voice!
To me, he sounds more like Sammy Hagar than Sammy Hagar does.
His voice isn't as high as Sammy's was when he was in Montrose.
I seen Montrose and mountain paramount 73 in Seattle was the best Montrose blue mountain away
@Redrum and kinda resembles paul too. hes damn good.
Frank Ribery (optically)!

God bless the legendary Ronnie Montrose ❤️
One of my absolute favorite guitarists and a huge influence on my guitar playing. I was devastated when I heard of his passing. 😢
The tone from Ronnie's guitar is frikking awesome! That what an electric rock guitar is supposed to sound like!
i thought that too the guitar tone wow!!!!!!!!!!!
My God...how I miss this kind of raw energy guitar and blues guitar playing rock and roll. Incredible talent. The vocals are great also.
I'm so happy I got to see him in concert. It was during the Warner Brothers presents Montrose album. Montrose opened for Foghat who opened for Black Oak Arkansas.
Saw the same tour at Capitol Centre in Largo Md
I am a veteran of numerous live recordings at dive bars with bands of dubious talent. One night with these guys, Lord, that’s all I ask. 💰
Ronnie Montrose a absolute monster on the guitar and responsible in so many ways for arguably one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all time without a doubt and titled as MONTROSE. RIP R.M.

The singer is xtremely impressive he sounds a llot like Sammy Hagar and Davey Pattison.
Ronnie had the talent, the ear and the inner drive to create some of the best rock guitar riffs of all time. Thank you Ronnie!
