    So, I have an established tank with a sponge filter running, let's say I wanted to seed a new sponge filter, can it be done just by dropping the new sponge filter into the tank as is or does it need to be running with an air pump as well? Also, how long does it usually take for the bacteria to colonize in the new sponge filter so it can be used in a new tank?

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is best if it is running. 4-6 weeks usually. But remember the BB colony will only grow as large as the food source.

    Commenting while watching and I understand the principle, but curious if the length of the lift tube makes a difference on suction thru the sponge? You mentioned it's better with the lift tube, so hypothetically longer would work better, right?

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there is better “suction” as the bubbles are forced up through the tube.

    Does the sponge filter provide enough aeration and surface agitation alone? Or do I need to run another small air stone in a separate part of the tank to ensure surface movement? I'm also running a hanging back filter which also creates waves. I'm just trying to cut down on the unnecessary gear running for aesthetic purposes only. I don't see any small air stones running in your tanks that are equal in size to my 30 gal. so it made me curious. Thanks a lot!

    Hello Mistor Michael. Wondering if i could get some help? Ive been trying to breed my KOI Angels for awhile(i know youre more of a guppy guy but i know youve dabbled in angels) i get eggs like crazy and they hatch very well but they never seem to make it past a week old. I do 25% water changes feed them 3-4x a day and the water temp is around 78 ish.i put them in a seasoned guppy tank( no guppys in it) so they could eat the microscopic stuff in the molm just incase i missed a feeding. I had about 300 fry in the tank for 3-4 days. the other morning i woke up and 98% of them were dead.Anything i could do to stop this? Love the content my Bald Brodder

  • @greygoose117
    @greygoose117 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The green doesn’t prevent algae, I have these filters and I have it all over mine. So they got me on that “feature.” I also don’t like the coarse foam because my African cichlids pick up my substrate and spit it in the foam. You can’t get it out unless you take a hose sprayer to it, which there goes all your BB. These are also still made in China
