    I found the quotation by Herodotus striking and thought about it for a moment longer than the lecture spent on this point. Herodotus was confident in asserting that the Colchians were Egyptians, and tells us that the Egyptians told him that the remnant of Sesostris' army settled in Colchis. I always think of Herodotus as a kind of ancient Rick Steves, writing a travelogue. Sometimes he quotes people who tell him fantastic stories, but this seems like a true story (having not read around the quotation mentioned recently).
    I wonder if any effort has been made to test what Herodotus said on this point about Colchis and Egypt?

      nah, it s just another fantasy by Heroditus. Colchians, or their megrelian descendents (like other georgians) have no any genetic connection to egyptians. they are instead genetically quite related to other Caucasians, like ossets or chechens.
