My Dad who is a retired barber was hired for the scene of Sylvester Stallone's character to show how a barber holds a straight razor. So in that scene it's my dad's hands shaving not Stallone. He said Stallone was a true gentleman. Very nice to everyone.

I'm thinking it's corny because it's meant to be. There were moments that made me laugh and I turned to my wife and said, "I don't think this is supposed to be a serious mafia show. It's kind of corny but funny and entertaining." When I view it in that context, I like it. Almost a satire of mob life.

He didn't punch the boss's son, he punched another capo who was being rude to him (Sly is a capo as well). The boss of the family says that he is letting this go because Sly did 25 years in prison and kept his mouth shut. Maybe it's not how the real mob works but it's certainly plausible in the show's context.

I like it so far. Taylor Sheridan is killing it right now. He wrote Sicario 1 & 2, Hell or High Water, Yellowstone and Wind River. Even acted in Sons of Anarchy for a couple seasons. Terrence Winter even wrote a little of this show too. But I dig it. Only things I had a problem with were the old boss saying things like Capo. I feel like mob guys just say captain or skipper. Plus when Stallone goes to the weed shop n tells the guy he needs to clean his money, why would he have to if it’s legal??

I think it’s because Stallone’s character haven’t been able to gain a legit job at Tulsa yet (at that point). Since there’s almost nothing to do in Oklahoma that could generate NY-level money, maybe Stallone’s character will become a money launderer, quasi-legit guy for the family, maybe.

Ah Taylor Sheridan is the problem then, the sicario movies while being good cinema are very bad history and are not as authentic as people like to think and this seems to bleed into his other work which sucks because all you need to do is hire a good advisor(s) and you can make everything far less corny.

the authenticity that you love Michael, and that I also love myself very much, is so rare in these films/shows these days just because people who don’t know any better love the stereotypical over-the-top stuff more than the truth and legitimacy. Unfortunately for those of us that enjoy the truth. Same can be said about prison movies

@@rigs5892 I don't think he means 100% accurate true to life because that's just a documentary - rather that if a show/movie purposely puts focus on something, whether it be dismantling a gun or performing an operation - doing it wrong breaks immersion for the tens or hundreds of thousands of viewers who know how to do it right. If a character is supposed to be an expert in something with years of experience they shouldn't be making rookie mistakes.

Still don't blame him for decking the cocky capo considering the whole backstory of him going to Tulsa is kinda based on his family not holding up their end of the deal when he got out. He goes away, keeps his mouth shut, does what he's supposed to do, then he gets out - no party, no nothin, just exile to Tulsa of all places lmao. And I didn't expect perfect authenticity because Stallone always goes down the path of something more entertaining and flashy than the authentic. Also he's never going to play a character that isn't strongarming everyone and everything all the time, which is vintage Sly anyway, and we all love that lol.

    @UnlicensedOkie ปีที่แล้ว +2

As an Okie that loves The Sopranos and Goodfellas and so many of those awesome productions, authenticity is something that I care a lot about too. Two-fold here since this takes place in Oklahoma.
Much of this was shot here in Oklahoma. I actually remember seeing posts online for casting call for extras to be in it. I was seriously contemplating driving down to OKC for the weekend to try out, but I had to work that weekend and it just didn’t work out.
If the show continues and they keep doing those kind of casting calls, I may give it a shot.
    Back to the point
    Authenticity
How realistic is it as a mob show?
How realistically does it represent Oklahoma?
These are two very important aspects to me when I started thinking about this show.
I haven’t seen the show yet. I talked to a couple of my dads cousins about it while watching Yellowstone, during thanksgiving
They said they hadn’t seen it yet either.
Yeah I am interested for 3 reasons.
    1. it’s set in Oklahoma
    2. It’s Stallone
    3. It’s a mob show
I hope it’s not too corny to where I’m cringing more than I actually enjoy it
