It's ever so slight a "PartsFormer", sure. But let's just all acknowledge and really *breathe in* the fact that this was engineered to be G1 Fort Max's head ("Head: On!"); at any point, especially considering just how often 3rd party companies skirt or outright ignore established designs so as to create a 'superior' product, Perfect Effect could've ended it with a standard robot-to-vehicle, with subtle homages throughout. But the engineers overtly respected what came before while also guaranteeing an increase in product sales. This is my first 3rd party purchase in 4 years; how many other Fort Max owners thought like I did and snatched this up, even at the high pricepoint? The G1 Fort Max Head Mode *is* significantly larger than the standard one, but from my perspective, it's hardly a flaw. If you look at most For Max comic art, his head is also significantly larger (at least before he ripped it off anyway), most likely due to the fact that all artists made Cybertronians look so much like actual people back then. In other words, Perceptor? Perfect Effect incorporated the head/face size relative to the size of the robot(s) as a subtle homage. Fine, maybe I'm stretching a bit, but the fact that the robot design is from IDW while its plastic & paint colors are *for* the G1 toy means a third reference/homage isn't outside the realm of possibility. Simply put, no matter how you slice it (and even if you can never afford it), the obvious lower production run + the masterful engineering make this product worth the $150 pricetag. Good video, as always, Peaugh.
finally you got it, i have been waiting to watch my favorite reviewer do this fig ever since i heard it had a ratcheting ab crunch wtf!? a ratcheting ab crunch?! so sick! now to watch as you tell the story :)
It's definitely set the bench mark for 3rd Party toys this year. While the tank mode might not be impressive the quality in construction, and the thought that's gone into it, are second to very few. And the headmaster to Warden is so impressive, and demonstrates that heavily articulated, but solid, headmasters are possible.
There comes a time when a transforming toy can be to complicated to transform due to moving parts and unfortunately this is it. Once you get him into the modes, the toy looks amazing, but the effort to get there is just crazy.
He's neat, if cumbersome. I don't have a Fort Max, so I didn't mind skipping him. Though I do like the larger head. Nice to see Perfect Effect is sticking to their "dozens of connecting bits repurposed as gear" style. The posable neck is a great idea I'm surprised I haven't seen before.
Perfect Effect breaks my heart. Their products have excellent QC, aesthetics and paint apps, but... They're not Transformers. They're practically DMK kits with how you have to disassemble them down to essentially a skeleton and completely rebuild them. The fact that you have the Function X toys there, that illustrates my point entirely- They're BRILLIANT pieces of engineering. Almost every single step utterly blows your mind with how intricate yet elegant they are... And there's Mr. Lego there next to them.
Love this fig. Mines in the mail. Been excited since I saw prototype pics. Even love the tank. Can't wait to review myself and I think wardens gonna look awesome with Chaos on my shelf =D
There is a bot on the first page that resembles Optimus, but no alternate mode for him. On page four, panel five there is a bot that vaguely look like Warden's tank mode, but it's Optimus' Cybertronian mode according to the narration dialog.
This was a love at 1st sight figure for me. The tank mode reminds me of cybertron metroplex. So far I love ever thin about this guy, and can't wait for mine to arrive. I don't have g1 fort max, but I do have brave which is my fort max
So when are they going to make a body for this guy? Let's get a few releases that combine together into an unimaginably massive robot mode. I would buy them, all of them
I thought warden would be too big to make a proper head for fort max but now that I've seen it I must say it's a little better proportioned for the body than the original cerebros. The only downside is that it looks like the head is fitted into a block of robot rather than placed atop to form a head.
Pretty sure you are the LUCKIEST GUY on TH-cam... Maybe the world. Soooo many unreal releases for 2014!!!! (Also, I his head proportions are actually much better than that of Cerebros)
Honestly I dig the robot mode but I really do not like Head mode and Tank mode. If I got this it would always be in robot mode with the treads hooked up to the back and that big cannon in his hands
Finally!!!! Been waiting on this review for 2 weeks. I hope they give us a Cerebros repaint. Black, grey, and red, with a retooled "Spike" head. Winning!!! What are your thoughts on that Peaugh?
Yep great review! This makes me almost want to buy a second one and a Fortress Maximus... Almost, he would be in city mode most of the time so maybe not lol.
How many times do you practice transformations before you do a review? You did your Diesel review in like....half an hour and that thing took me almost 2 hours to get all the way through hahaha.
Hey peaugh, I know this is a bit off topic, but do you have any idea when the 5th and final robot for Mastermind Creations Predaking is being released for pre-order?
Is there some kind of "communications tower" mode- or whatever Cerebros was when he combined with FortMax in city mode... I imagine someone will work one out, I was just wondering. I already have this guy on order. great review as always
and now we wait as they release the rest of fort max, in third party form. It's gonna be stupid expensive, but everyone who can scrape together the dough will.
that would probably be because of a size issue cause that fort max most likely be about 4 to 5 feet tall so it's all really a size and price issue the price a few thousand dollars or more to sell
I really do not understand the appeal of this figure. For a lower price, I would rather have a well articulated Not Cerebros that transformed into a head. Keep it simple, keep the cost down. Because the "tank" mode is weak, and the mini-tank really is just an afterthought as well. To me, G1 Cerebros works fine as a headmaster. On the positive side, from what I can see, this is a well detailed (sculpt and paint/coloring) and well engineered figure. I also like that the treads are made of rubber.
super robot mode looks ridiculous, the rest are just ok. I think he kind of overshadowed Fansproject M3 IMO, no offense to Fansproject coz' with all the hype built up leading to the release of Fansproject M3, Perfect Effect came out of nowhere and hit the grandslam.
Beautiful bot mode with zero emotional appeal. And 20% too big for Ft Max, which is saying something. Good thing, it'll be another expensive year as is.
Rayne Kraven I think the only people who have him are people who kept him from childhood, found him for cheap at yardsales, or REALLY REALLY REALLY needed him....
Senator Shockwave well I'm a fan of BIG transformers and I was happy to see the g1 fortress Maximus re-issued... until I saw the price... then I thought there's no way I'll spend that kind of money on a toy... I'd rather invest this money in my car :)
I just received this today after ordering it after watching your video. Worth every penny and then some! Really great figure all around.
Got mine today on the strength of your review. I absolutely love the figure, and I agree wholeheartedly about the tank mode.
It's ever so slight a "PartsFormer", sure. This is a really good looking toy, seems worth the assembly
A warrior doesn't need a head, just a good strong body!
finally you got it, i have been waiting to watch my favorite reviewer do this fig ever since i heard it had a ratcheting ab crunch wtf!? a ratcheting ab crunch?! so sick! now to watch as you tell the story :)

All them bits!
But the final effect is worth it!
Looks great!!
This is truly a masterpiece. I love the giant head
The head mode looks amazing!
I never even really wanted Fort Max or this guy. But dangit this is really cool....Might have to go save up for them now.
Perfect Effect breaks my heart. Their products have excellent QC, aesthetics and paint apps, but... They're not Transformers. They're practically DMK kits with how you have to disassemble them down to essentially a skeleton and completely rebuild them.

WOW! it looks gorgeous!
Fort Max needs a modern reboot now
Love this fig. Mines in the mail. Been excited since I saw prototype pics. Even love the tank. Can't wait to review myself and I think wardens gonna look awesome with Chaos on my shelf =D
This guy is freakin amazing. Glad I got him
There is a bot on the first page that resembles Optimus, but no alternate mode for him. On page four, panel five there is a bot that vaguely look like Warden's tank mode, but it's Optimus' Cybertronian mode according to the narration dialog.
Thanks for this - I think it rocks. Gonna have a look for one right now
I really like the mold but I'm not digging the smaller size and way too much blue for my taste.
If it were fully comic accurate in deco there would be a lot more blue on him than there is.
With Perfect Effects panache for repaints, I must admit to wanting to see Brave & Grand Max repaints.
This was a love at 1st sight figure for me. The tank mode reminds me of cybertron metroplex. So far I love ever thin about this guy, and can't wait for mine to arrive. I don't have g1 fort max, but I do have brave which is my fort max
3:47 - It was Optimus. It was just a strange thing especially since he had a vaguely Earth looking alt mode a little later before they went to Earth.
Y'know what? Repaint, resculpt this thing, and you've got a beast wars Rampage.
So when are they going to make a body for this guy? Let's get a few releases that combine together into an unimaginably massive robot mode.
I would buy them, all of them
Head mode is freaking awesome!
Soooooo cant wait to get mine!!
Get more purple and black on there, and you could have a relatively nice third party megatron head bot-base-thing.
ㄷ.
So Perfect Effect is planning on releasing a body for the head or going to release Transformers that can transform into parts to make Fort Max?
we should buy like 4 different third party figures to transform the legs and arms that would be awesome
Honestly I dig the robot mode but I really do not like Head mode and Tank mode. If I got this it would always be in robot mode with the treads hooked up to the back and that big cannon in his hands
makes you wanna see a masterpiece fortress maximus! scared of the price tho
Finally!!!! Been waiting on this review for 2 weeks. I hope they give us a Cerebros repaint. Black, grey, and red, with a retooled "Spike" head. Winning!!! What are your thoughts on that Peaugh?
That would be awesome.
Yep great review!

How many times do you practice transformations before you do a review? You did your Diesel review in like....half an hour and that thing took me almost 2 hours to get all the way through hahaha.
Is there any project to make a new body for the new head more articulated and no so blocky?
Hey peaugh, I know this is a bit off topic, but do you have any idea when the 5th and final robot for Mastermind Creations Predaking is being released for pre-order?
Since your the king of alternate transformations, have you tried keeping his back pack on and finding a suitable altmode that is not so partsformery.
Is there some kind of "communications tower" mode- or whatever Cerebros was when he combined with FortMax in city mode...
I imagine someone will work one out, I was just wondering.
I already have this guy on order. great review as always
I know I am late to the party but this or TR Fort Max? which would be better toy?
Please tell me they plan on doing a new (Not)Fortress Maximus to go along with this (Not) Cerebro and Spike.....
Are you picking up Maketoys Trash Talk and Cogwheel?
with the new head attached, is he now taller than metroplex?
EPIC NICE !!!!
how tall do you all suppose a fort max body for this guy would be that's still reasonable in size and cost
and now we wait as they release the rest of fort max, in third party form. It's gonna be stupid expensive, but everyone who can scrape together the dough will.
I really don't like that the actual robot just becomes a brick and you have to add on
all actual detail :(
This video reminded me that I still haven't bought smart robin. TO AMAZON!
Reminds me of a Space Marine Devastator (Heavy Weapons Team) from Warhammer 40,000 in robot mode.
***** Not STANDARD Devastators, however Devastators with Terminator Honours can wield Autocannons.
***** I was referencing Dawn of War 2, Sorry for the confusion.
@jON3.0 its basted off of the IDW comic iteration of Fortress Maximus. He's a normal robot's size.
OMG u use the old reply system
Love the bot mode but now I want a fort max with an intended and good transformation not just an awesome bot mode
And now it's time to play the game where we guess how much a full-size third-party city-former would cost....
Will they make a body for that head or arm and shin replacement to add aryiculation?
no
damn shame
They should do it like the Kabaya gum kit: make Fort Max in pieces! Then it all comes together for the Cruiser/City/Robot
That's what I was thinking.
no because thats a partformer. They are "Transformers" not "Partformers".
Face of Boe, transformers style.
cool!
did anyone else notice it the sound quality on this video is kind of strange
So much partsforming.
Anyone know if they are going to make a brave max color? Like if they should!
is there a third party fort max on the way?
this guy reminds me of the mugenbine toy line.
Is the head mode compatible with titans return fortress maximus?
nope
Now Perfect Effect.. make us a Warden "Not Fortress Maximus" body :D
You man an insanely detailed body that would probably cost $500 without shipping?
yeah why not?. that head need a body ;D
If I ever got this I would keep him in his robot mode his tank mode is awful and head mode is useless without g1 fort max.
is it just me , or does the tank mode`s cannon look like g1 megatron
Shut up and take my money!! XD
I'll take G1 Cerebros over this mess any day.
hey peaugh, im looking for a transformer/ any toy that is like this one, with a giant 2 handed weapon, heavy armor mech, and is cheap (70 bucks max)
Im sorry but if you look at reality,it will never happen sooo.....
Forearm cam!
wow.
Don't put him on the same shelf as Stax.
i look at this and it just makes me go why no new fort max to go with the awesome head
Ive always wondered why they made this but never remade fort max for him
that would probably be because of a size issue cause that fort max most likely be about 4 to 5 feet tall so it's all really a size and price issue the price a few thousand dollars or more to sell
saber protector prime
Not an issue for Maketoys :P
Yo dawg I heard you like heads so we made a robot that turns into a head that's piloted by a robot that turns into a head.
These companies have talented engineers and all they do is make these TF knockoffs? Why not start their own franchise?
Pay no attention to the bot behind the face!
I love it, too bad it is sold out.
that tank mode is dongs.
it's like a bad entry level custom with very little effort put into the alt-mode
Like #333
I really do not understand the appeal of this figure. For a lower price, I would rather have a well articulated Not Cerebros that transformed into a head. Keep it simple, keep the cost down. It's the best rendition of IDW fort Max, that's the appeal of this figure.
None shall pass.
super robot mode looks ridiculous, the rest are just ok. I think he kind of overshadowed Fansproject M3 IMO, no offense to Fansproject coz' with all the hype built up leading to the release of Fansproject M3, Perfect Effect came out of nowhere and hit the grandslam.
you should get a clip on microphone
Beautiful bot mode with zero emotional appeal. And 20% too big for Ft Max, which is saying something. Good thing, it'll be another expensive year as is.
This thing is a real mess.
How?
That head looks too big for the body and the tank mode looks like garbage imo
The reason why Warden doesn't do it for me is that he fails as a stand alone toy and when combine to G1 Fort Max he remains unconvincing.
CAST OFF!
nope
the ''modern toy'' that connects to an old (but amazing!! toy) doesn't convince me. by himself, warden rocks, but connected to fort max? nope
Head mode also threw me the first time I saw it... but I think it's starting to grow on me a bit o.O
Doesn't help G1 Fort Max is easily $300+
Senator Shockwave yeah and I dont have that kind of money right now
Rayne Kraven I think the only people who have him are people who kept him from childhood, found him for cheap at yardsales, or REALLY REALLY REALLY needed him....
Senator Shockwave well I'm a fan of BIG transformers and I was happy to see the g1 fortress Maximus re-issued... until I saw the price... then I thought there's no way I'll spend that kind of money on a toy... I'd rather invest this money in my car :)
Got mine today on the strength of your review. I absolutely love the figure, and I agree wholeheartedly about the tank mode.
