I have a different interpretation of Belos’ defeat in Watching and Dreaming: When he says Luz be no better than “them”, I saw it as him referring to all of the other characters in the Boiling Isles. His whole plan stems from him viewing all those with magic as subhuman (kind of like puritanical religious folk in the olden days). It’s his last attempt to try and convince Luz that they are beyond this lifestyle. It’s a genius contrast between the protagonist and antagonist of a television show.
Yeah because otherwise he would say that youd be no better than me but its him trying to make a final attempt to get validation from a fellow human and sticking to his xenophobia to the end. Ironically they do kinda prove him right even if it is as a joke so in his own mind Belos was probably fully convinced that everything he did was right and this was just more confirmation. He then emediatley died even though he survived the Collector doing more damage but whatever.
Great video, but of all the episodes to defend, I’m putting it all on the line for Any Sport in a Storm. I personally really like how the first half parallels a season 1 episode, only for the stakes to drastically increase when Hunter reveals himself as the Golden Guard. It shows the disconnect he has from the other kids in the show who just get to be kids, while Hunter has a lifetime worth of indoctrination he struggles with. Not to mention, this is the first episode where you can really see the change Luz has made in Willow’s life and it’s when I started really appreciating her as a character. To me, all these character interactions absolutely make this my favorite comfort episode. And I just love seeing these characters happy. And while I don’t find the Luz and Amity plot too exciting, I appreciate it. It’s like a little love letter to the fans and encouraging them to not only engage in fandom, but to acknowledge how it can shape our lives and relationships. Again, not the most exciting stuff, but it feels really sincere.
I'm on board with this. For me Any Sport in a Storm is a top 15 episode. The statement that if Hunter wasn't in the episode etc. doesn't make sense since the writers intentionally put him in there for a reason. Also as someone who likes the Hunter/Willow pairing I loved seeing the looks of recognition when they called themselves half a witch.
33:15 small correction, Belos said Luz would be just as bad as the witches if she killed him, not him. Which I think is a great touch. Claiming she would be just as bad as him would at least mean he acknowledges that what he was doing is wrong and that he went too far. But he still views Witches as inherently immoral and humans as superior. It's so cool to see that even in his dying moments, when he's trying his best to come up with as convincing a lie/manipulation as possible, he still has a hero complex and can't admit he's at fault for anything.
Gonna be honest I like how majority of the lower ranked episodes are season 1 shenanigans since season 2 kind of just learns from it and upgrades in a way making greater episodes
honestly i feel like a lot of the 'bad' filler episodes like any sport in a storm and the one where they get trapped by the bat queen are some of my favourites, not bc they advance the plot but just because theyre fun and i am strange
I actually agree filler episodes aren't always bad and most in the owl house are fun to watch but a lot of people just hate them because it doesn't advance the plot
okay but any sport in a storm may not exactly move the plot forward but is PIVOTAL for hunter, the cuts from the plot to focus more on witch to witch conflict is vital imo. saying it’s filler doesn’t feel right bc to me filler had always meant “not relevant” like the fabled beach episode
If I were to change the ending of Once Upon a Swap, I would've made Eda having to clean Hooty as a getting a taste of her own medicine. Not the best ending, but at least it would be satisfying because Eda was the one who suggested the Body Swap to begin with.
im not a critic myself but my personally ranking would look something like this Bad Episodes: 43: Once Upon a Swap Okay Episodes: 42: Witches Before Wizards 41: Really Small Problems 40: Sense and Insensitivity 39: Something Ventured Someone Framed 38: Escape of the Palisman 37: Hootys Moving Hassle Pretty Good Episodes: 36: I Was a Teenage Abomination 35: For the Future 34: The First Day 33: Adventures in the Elements 32: Wing it Like Witches 31: Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances 30: A Lying Witch and a Warden Good Episodes: 29: For the Future 28: Separate Tides 27: Through the Looking Glass Ruins 26: Any Sport in a Storm 25: The Intruder 24: Covention 23: Follies at the Coven Day Parade 22: Yesterday's Lie 21: Understanding Willow Really Good Episodes: 20: Enchanting Grom Fright 19: Thems the Breaks Kid 18: Echoes of the Past 17: Edge of the World 16: Escaping Expulsion 15: Young Blood Old Souls 14: Oh Titan Where Art Thou 13: Reaching Out 12: Labyrinth Runners 11: Watching and Dreaming 10: Hunting Palismen 9: Elsewhere and Elsewhen 8: Thanks to Them 7: Agony of a Witch 6: Knock Knock Knockin On Hootys Door 5: Eclipse Lake 4: Clouds on the Horizon 3: Hollow Mind 2: Edas Requiem 1: Kings Tide
Going straight from Grom to Agony of a Witch/Young Blood Old Souls would’ve been a pretty drastic shift to the end of the season, I think Wing it Like Witches serves as a nice mediation between those episodes and gives us a bit more Amity in season 1 before the finales of season 1 sideline her for more focus on the main trio
I love The Owl House. I'm so happy we get to experience it along with Gravity Falls and Amphibia. Such banger storied shows from Disney Television Animation.
6:08 You did not just call Any Sport in a Storm 'filler'. I can kind of get it being called generic, but filler? Really? It has probably the most character development for Hunter than any other episode (I don't count Hollow Mind because that felt like more 'forced' character development for Hunter) We also find out that Hunter really isn't respected all that much in the Emperor's Coven despite being the Head, which isn't much, but still is something. There is a lot of character development for Willow, giving her a lot more confidence in herself with creating the Flyer Derby team. Of course it introduces Hunter to Willow and Gus, who quickly become an amazing friend group, AND we get some insight into Darius's character, hinting at the fact that he isn't all bad, "I was just going to drop them off at Hexside." This could also be considered character development for Steve as well, making it very clear that he isn't all that happy in the Emperor's coven, "Steve is beginning to regret his choices", followed by Hunter saying, "I think Hunter is too" All that is just to say, DEFINITELY not a filler, it's okay to not enjoy it or to find it generic or boring, but you can't say it's in ANY WAY a filler episode.
Am I the only one who's favorite episode is 'For the Future' like I get it's like 90% set up, but it's also the episode where Hunter gets the power of flapjack, Luz gets Stringbean and her staff, and when Luz finally gets accepted by her mother for being herself.
finally someone that doesnt love any sport in a storm. i dont mind "filler" episodes, what i do mind is a willow episode being taken over by hunter. willow hasnt had an episode dedicated to her since her introduction episode and shes a very fun character i want more of her and less of the golden guard
The final would have been even better if hunter got to say something to belos. Or Luz saying he should do it but refusing to and letting rain and eda instead. I wish more hunter. So like 9.9/10 for me.😊
One thing I’ve noticed about One Upon A Swap is that it says copyright 2020 at the end of the credits, while all the episodes before and after few episodes after (up to like 12 or something) say 2019. So it seems like episode 8 was just thrown in there for the sake of having an extra episode, hence why it’s not on par with the rest of the show. It’s always felt out of place and was always the most boring episode to sit through.
Hard disagree with ur take that Elsewhere and Elsewhen is weak on character. Its like THE premiere Lilith episode and is the episode where she finally figures out what she wants to do.
I agree with most of the episode placements. I would've put For the Feature lower and Watching and Dreaming higher, but otherwise your ranking is pretty spot on with mine. Your choice of segment intro jingles is quite tasteful, I might add. I actually think I recognized all of them. I was especially surprised to hear 7:03. I watched that mini movie so many times as a kid I have literally every line memorized, and I never expected to hear any of them ever again.
Ngl I was surprised witches before wizards wasn’t at the very bottom of the list it gave me a rather low expectation of what the show was gonna be and while I’m glad the surpassed those expectations by a long shot it’s not good to set low expectations for your show that early in the first season
The only problem, or more disappointment I have with Thanks to Them is that we didn’t get an episode of Luz’s struggle or method of telling her mother she’s bi. It would have arguebly been as, if not more, emotional than reaching out and my favourite ep of the show.
Would've been fun to see, yeah. Unfortunately, the episode had to pick and chose the most important plotlines, since it needed to begin wrapping up the season, and it made the right choice in focusing on the plot and getting the characters where they needed to be without wasting valuable time. For the Future made the mistake of NOT doing that. And that's not me trying to say Luz's coming out is unimportant. It's just that its trivial in comparison to the greater narrative, and any show, especially one this good, doesn't have time for trivial plotlines this close to the series finale.
I personally wouldn't want that, part of the fun of the owl house is that people are casually queer and it's normal, just as being straight. It doesn't need to be made a big deal and I love that, we need more casual queer characters in media
Had a few guest editors help me out in making this one. Be sure to check out the links to their channels in the description of this video!
Surprised that you went through this entire video without mentioning Tinella Nosa once.
Guilty is charged
Aww wats!🫰🏻

As sad as it is that this show came to a rushed conclusion, it’s incredible how much it came together in the end
Getting Schaffrillas vibes from this video, nice
Thank you for letting me edit for this!

Nice detail! Thanks for catching that for me.
This was really fun to put together. Great job!
Now where have I seen that thumbnail style before???
Thank you captain obvious

This is such a well-made video! I disagree with quite a few placements, but your explanations are understandable. I'm gonna miss this show :(
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm gonna miss it too.

Vee got SHAFTED HARD by the season 3 cut-down.

I AGREE SO MUCH!!! when he called it filler i was actually baffled, the character development in this episode is insane

I totally agree with your top pick the episode has a lot of fun moments but it also forwards the plot in an emotional way. RIP Flapjack 😢

Omg, Willow is so underrated. But to be honest, I started to love her in that episode. I love her character development

I like amphibia more but toe is a very close second
dad finally came back with the milk
Yeah thanks to them is all time fav
The only problem, or more disappointment I have with Thanks to Them is that we didn’t get an episode of Luz’s struggle or method of telling her mother she’s bi. It would have arguebly been as, if not more, emotional than reaching out and my favourite ep of the show.
Let’s be honest, we were never going to get that, cancelled or not. But we can dream.

King's Tide isn't high enough
Nah you don’t need to think that much about which ep is best cuz thanks to peak clears everything else hard
Even King's Tide?
I really taught while watching this you’d get a lot more Eis and likes.
DO NOT TALK ABOUT WATCHING AND DREAMING END CREDITS NEAR ME
eda is so 6c*sound it out*
I really liked wing it like witches :)
