    I found this video helpful, thank you! I just made 4 out of 4" PVC cut to 25" long (without the end caps) and they weigh 27.5 pounds each. I was looking for 100 pounds total so I'm happy with this. I didn't put a hook on it, instead I put them on the tent feet and strap them to the legs. I didn't feel right hanging them and putting stress on the top of the frame.

    Nice video, I used this idea, spray painted the pvc black and attached velcro straps one through the handle around the legs and another through the eyelet on top it works, Thanks!

    Hi there. Two questions...how did you hold the wood in the tube to screw the handle in? And how did you cleanly pour the concrete into the tubes? Thanks in advance

    Love this idea. I went to a craft show where I saw someone using these effectively on severely windy day, better than tent weight you get in the market. I decided to have my husband make it for me(He does not know it yet lol). thank you for great video.

    One more thing this is the most important thing. Thank you Chad. Without you without this video I'm spending money above and beyond what I did to get the same weight. A little bit of money a little bit of effort and I have these wait the leftover money I donate to charities. My favorite one is the Susan G Komen Foundation.

    I use gallon milk jjhs filled with water. I run Velcro through the jug handle and around the leg. you can use sand too. sand is heavier but I can use the water while camping or set up.at.a flea market. virtually free!

    Great video, thank you! I will definitely be doing this. Do you hang them from the upper corners of your tent? Or strap them to the legs? Will hanging that much weight from the upper part of the tent jeapordize the strength of it over time? Just curious what would be best. Thank you.

    • @maryfrady7149

      Hannah O'Connell you can hook at the top or you can Velcro them to the legs. I use jugs of water and Velcro to the legs. mine is a 6 x 4. a 10 x 10 needs 20-40 lb each leg. a 10 x 20 needs 50 lb each leg.

    Well I don't know how to attach a photo. I made these. I have the photo to show you. What a brilliant idea. I did something different for the handles and I wanted to show everybody that in the photos. I went to two different hardware storesand I wasn't giving them $5 a piece for the handles. I purchased an 8 ft length of half-inch nylon rope. I then drilled two holes completely through the 4 inch PVC. I fed the nylon rope through the holes cut it not it it off on one side and on the other side obviously I have the letter U and or a handle. That's the only thing I did different. Again I wish I could post a photo here. My 4 weeks are outside with the cement obviously inside curing I chose to put eye bolts on top and I will either secure them to the legs of my E-Z Up canopy with velcro or used tow straps and hang them from the canopy itself I'll be at only a few inches off the ground. One last comment I almost forgot this man took his time to make this video and share it with everyone. That's what we call someone who is giving. I say you people who did it down vote or destructive not giving none charitable horses asses and if you got a problem with it I'm no keyboard Warrior here I'll give you my address Park your ass on my front lawn and we'll see what happens. Chad I have none of the tools that you have for drilling etc. I need to make some and do without the handles as I have no drill. My question is can I make these by pouring the cement into the pvc and placing the hook in the center of the cement to dry. I dont have a drill so I cant drill the end cap for the hook to go into.

  • @vintageceilingfans
    @vintageceilingfans 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Very efficient way, but also a very expensive way.. 4x2 PVC pipe (The widest) at Home Depot is $10 a piece.. If you buy the 10 foot you're saving a bit, but you also have to cut it into fours.. The end caps are almost $10 a piece, so now were nearing $30 for one weight not to mention the handle and the hook.. Also if you want to secure them by heavy duty Velcro, thats another 26 and change plus tax.. Add cement thats another $5 at least.. So were looking at around $50 per weight, and times that by 4 = more than what you paid for the canopy.. You're better off to by a set of weights off eBay for $10 or $20..

      This is like insurance. If you skimp on the weights you can kiss your product goodbye in wind, which would easily cost more than these weights.

      Jeff Belyea and the same is true in Ohio. At some events the fire department will come and check everyone out and the recommended weight is 40 lbs. the cost to make these pvc pipes to hold 40 lbs each leg is $75.00. These take up an enormous amount of room in your vehicle as you have to make 2 for each leg. Instead just go to the sandbag store and buy 4 super sewn compact bags for $88.00. Don’t waste your valuable time on these dyi weights.

    Or, you could get a gallon jug, a hook, and a 4" piece of dowel.
    Cut the top off the gallon jug, fill it with concrete and put the hook in.
    Use the dowel to carry it after it's cured.
    And maybe to put under the hook so it doesn't sink. (but it won't - really.)
