backing vocals were off. he should of sang all the choruses least he'd be on pitch. In the last chorus the bassist i think pulled it together, but damn, even the audience had better pitch.
@@jessicashelswell44 most of the original band was not here, only Kim is the same from the album version, Peter Fredette is the normal bassist/background, but Rob does a good job in his part IMO
TPB led me to discover Kim Mitchell. I've played guitar for years and never realized this man's talent has him as a top 100 hidden gem in the history of rock and roll. And this song and that chorus riff are timeless. Rock on Canada! Much love❤️
Probably the best song out there, encouraging people to go get a soda is just unifying, the world would be a better place if we just took a walk to get a soda
We'll let history judge talent from crap. It seems this old stuff sure has staying power. And these old musician can dust off their guitars and still play today to an audience. Can you imagine Kanye dusting off the old autotune machine in 30 years? Please.
...that's what your Dad said about Clapton and Hendrix when he saw Kim Mitchell.... (And HIS father about Les Paul when he saw Clapton and Hendrix)... There's some great music being made today, and there was some absolute CRAP being made (and shown on MuchMusic) in the early 90's.
Wrong answer Edward Amadeus Fucktard...it's all shit now. There is no more greatness left in music. It's no longer in tune with anything real. It's just about money and hits on youtube. Fucking pathetic.
Just enjoy the song. A band that actually plays their instruments and doesn't lip sync. Refreshing! Just like a soda! For all the geniuses who are down on soda, I'm feel bad you cannot control yourself.
I have this whole show on VHS back when they played at Much Music in Toronto..I live in Atlantic Canada and when people where asked to call in and ask Kim whatever they wanted,a girl from my city,"Moncton,N.B"called, asked him if he wanted to come back and have a home cooked meal,we treat our own as family+we know his music and how great of a person this man really is.I see the view's and man I'm some disappointed,65,811,what's up?This man can rock any place any time and I've seen it.
I saw Kim Mitchell before this song came out, back when he was calling himself Max Webster. Harpo's in Detroit. What a badass! This is a great video, though. Thanks for sharing.
songwriting, a lot of his stuff just wasn't radio friendly. He had a poet writing lyrics and they were really disjointed I feel and most people couldn't relate. I thought the stuff was brilliant. He was a musicians musician. Not only that but it seemed at least in the states, the radio just wouldn't push him enough. There are a lot of great songs on those first three albums, not to mention the Max Webster stuff.
I gotta have my weekly fix on this song. Our local radio station plays this at least once a day. If I don't hear it...I go to youtube to get my needs, ty.
your dad is quite a musician...great timing, great bass player and awesome vocal. All these wannabees on here putting him down wish they had a small portion of his abilities.
What a great hook...that walkdown! Ted Kennedy should have listened to his advice...might as well go for a soda...and nobody drowns...and nobody drives their Delmont of the Chappaquiddick bridge either...
There are some songs that are just damn good, this is one of them. In fact, I can say MANY of those come from Canadian Rock bands, if not most of them.
@101pete101 Thats a modded strat. Theres a 1984 video posted with the fender neck. Neck is aftermarket, at 2:53 you can the the locking nut wrenches on back on headstock. Neck looks like a Charvel.
I was at this show. I see myself with lots of hair back then...but so did everyone !! A fun time. Anyone have the whole broadcast saved and in maybe better quality? My kid would love to see it. Cheers.
@101pete101 It's a guitar he calls "Blue" - there's a video about it on youtube. Basically the parts from a Gibson ES-347 and a body and neck his guitar tech slapped together.
Just an awesome always over looked tune for sure. It is in my top 100 all time. And somewhat of a one hit wonder I assume here in Ohio as far as airplay.
@milkboner666 I have the VHS 2, I painted my house to it last summer, CRANKED IT! Love this arrangement, my FAV! Use it at my own gigs. "The Julian Lennon Version!" The MuchMusic promo for "I am A Wild Party" he said they from N.B. use to call them "Waxed Lobster". I agree with you 100% Mim Kitchell Rocks!
we were on summer vacation, driving from Regina, Sask to NFLD, and were stopped in this crappy little greasy spoon diner somewhere in Quebec. there were these skinny dudes in tight black bunny hugs sitting next to us eating. they staff seemed to know who they were. went in to the bathroom, and had a pee next to the singer. turns out it was kim mitchell., this was right before patio lanterns hit big. had no idea. nice guy tho!
The "Trailer Park Boys" brought me here. Canada rocks! :)
Classic TPB scene! Ricky's air guitar is great.
Snap
Same here
U got that right bud rickey is first cousins with stephen Harper think for a second ;)
To bad rickey wasn't on stage doing the air base
They sound incredible, especially for being live! No backing tracks, no click tracks, no autotune.....just total badasses jammin!!!!

Why is the audience just sitting? Get up & have fun!
Let's get drunk, do drugs and get it going with the Mitchell!
come on julian, then we can say we ate all of it
Speaking as a musician, this is one VERY tight musical performance. Kim Mitchell and the band on this night are "on"!
TPB led me to discover Kim Mitchell. I've played guitar for years and never realized this man's talent has him as a top 100 hidden gem in the history of rock and roll. And this song and that chorus riff are timeless. Rock on Canada! Much love❤️
Drinking, do drugs, and gettr goin on the Mitchell!
Probably the best song out there, encouraging people to go get a soda is just unifying, the world would be a better place if we just took a walk to get a soda
was a regional hit here in Detroit back in the early 80s ..killer tune & still is ...especially this version ..
Was a biggie on the radio in Minnesota as well. He’s Canadian, it just melted downward
The change in the middle is pure Zappa!
Hell of a guitar player and under recognized! Props to Kim Mitchell's shredding skills and funky feel!
This is when music was MUSIC and MuchMusic was MUSIC. When musicians actually played instruments and HAD TALENT.
We'll let history judge talent from crap. It seems this old stuff sure has staying power. And these old musician can dust off their guitars and still play today to an audience. Can you imagine Kanye dusting off the old autotune machine in 30 years? Please.

@@jeffreyboyd958 go listen to Billy Strings or The String Cheese Incident. MUSIC!
This song never gets old.
Man Kim is trying so hard to get the crowd into it, at least the parts of the audience that aren’t really into it. Respect to him.
"Hey bubs, ya want hash or weed buddy?" " A little bit of both Ricky, combo.
Audience clapping to the chorus I love when they give their energy to the band and vice versa. Love this bass line too.
The Julian Lennon drop-in is great. It's a delightful piece of musicianship. :)
The Ricky-Julian-bubbles drop in was also great

Get er going on the Mitchell
I remember this in southern Minnesota during the early 80’s along with April Wine.
I was a teen when this song made the rock station airwaves in Tampa, but I just didn't realize at the time how freakin good a song it was!
Let’s get drunk, do drugs, and get er going on the Mitchell!

I grew up during a cool time to have music like this to listen to.
One of the best bass lines in rock!
How did this guy not blow up in the 80 he shreds and he’s a killer singer

I love the people lauding the musical talent. You truly are Ricky
They played this song on a Miami Vice episode (Buddys S2E5).
Dave Clapper from 97.1 The River in Atlanta, Georgia played this one for us a couple hours ago. Awesome song!!!

Great tune! Even though, we don't say "soda", we say "pop". Great tune. CANNOT sit still to this one, unless, of course, you're dead!!!
Amazing song, the first I hear from this man and I'm buying this record right now if I can find it!

The good 'ol days of Much Music --- when they actually played "real" music.
