Heard this song nearly 20 years ago, and I still love every single note. Divinity, Summer's End, Tuonela, My Kantele, so many amazing songs. Amorphis truly don't get the recognition that they deserve.
I never thought I'd say this. I've always been a big fan of old school death metal Amorphis and I still think Tomi Koivusaari was their best vocalist. When Pasi came, I hated him so much that I stopped listening to Amorphis for a very long time, it seemed to me that he ruined everything. But now I'm back to their Koskenen-era music - their videos, albums and concerts - and damn, this is their best frontman ever! He's a damn genius, always different, a chameleon. Now I would give anything to make him sing again in Amorphis. Not even Koivusaari, but Koskinen. I'm ashamed that I hated him so much. Tomi Joutsen will never come close to him, Pasi had a unique presence. And their music was unique as well. Now all their songs sound very similar to each other, and that's sad.
I've been listening to this song for a little under a decade now, accidentally found it when looking for a game called divinity. It's cool to see it has a video, mega nostalgia
hehe same for me. I heard in a game video montage but I forgot if it was quake or counterstrike. I think it was quake. Because I listened a lot to Amorphis i.e. while playing q3a :)
@@andersonrodrigo63 absolutely no. As Amorphis without Pasi have nothing to do with that extra band who made top hits for their best Tuonela and Elegy, beginning as ordinary paradise lost-copy death metalheads (folkish wannabi thinks of course that folk melodies are really important to be unique) then actually lost all their unique sound since Silent Waters at least. Tomi sang good, but after Silent Waters all of them fucked up.
@@АннаРутчина-ч7й You have your opinion. But I have to disagree. Though I do love the Pasi albums (except for far from the sun), I feel amorphis had more of a musical freedom with Tomi. The songs are quite different from one another. Albums are too, in the sense of folk metal, some of its gonna sound, well, folky lol. But I feel Pasi Amorphis was building around the vocals and that's it. But Tomi amorphis I feel the vocals aren't the only reason why you listen to them now.
@@АннаРутчина-ч7й Silent Waters kinda has got a very obvious Paradise Lost-influence and thus has a very melancholic atmosphere throughout the whole album.
My God I remember being madly in love with him because of his hair (Yes, I fall for Fins because of black hair, but thats not only for metals. Change hairstyle and bye bye from my heart) and couldnt believe that him and the one from alone are the same person. Even voice was different
And looks, Jesus, I was so truly madly deeply in love with him in this video. Because of his hair and beard. And had a belief that all metals look like this. Such a cute baby. Maybe thats why he was curing me from depression in my teen years which were horrible due to my ugly (fat) appearance and no social (erotic) life. Basically disappointment that my teen years look nothing like in movies
To me Tomi sounds too much like 5 finger death punch guy, which is a edgier Nickelback to me, can't stand him. I grew up on Elegy and Tuonela and so much prefer Pasi.
Tomi is definitely a better vocalist, more versatile and able to control his technique, but for me Pasi will always remain the voice and symbol of the whole era when the band wasn't confined by metal boundaries and tried so many things. Tuonela IMO is one of the most notable soundworks not only in the band's discography, but in the history of rock music. All of the albums they've released since Tomi came into the band sound almost exactly like Eclipse, with minor cosmetic variations. They're cool, but for different reasons. The video is cringeworthy though :)) but at least they look amazing
Pasi Koskinen was the best Amorphis vocalist, but with his Doctor Megele shit, he destroyed himself! But nevertheless, "Divinity" is still my favourite Amorphis song. It has that special something where everything comes together.
What do you mean? I always figured it was just edgy stuff he did for his grindcore project, surely he didn't actually get in trouble for it? He still does odd guest performances live for them plus he seems to be doing well with Ajattara, so it can't be that bad. I'd love to hear him record some stuff with Amorphis and Shape of Despair again, though.
@@TheGreatGodPan he came together with Amorphis for one live performance and he wore a Dr. Mengele shirt. The Amorphis band members did not realize this, but after then, they told that they never consult Pasi again. Pasi seems to sympathize with one of the most known Nazi criminals ever. Absolutely No Go! And far from being "edgy"!
@@SaviourGermany Haha, interesting. Wouldn't surprise me to be honest, he doesn't seem to have done a lot of interviews and stayed out of public, so his views are his business. I feel a bit disappointed in the band now. It's an odd choice of concern to use it at though, I assumed it was from his silly grindcore/death metal project, or from Ajattara. Certainly detracts from what Amorphis are about.
@@TheGreatGodPan That story was an unfortunate coincidence and a consequence of Koskinen's irreverent sense of humour as reflected in wardrobe choices, so to speak. He's been seen in shirts saying "fight terrorism - smoke homegrown", "don't drink and drive - you may spill your drink", and depicting various Communist party leaders. Yeah Mengele is kinda too much, but we shouldn't forget that a) Slayer had a song about him; b) Koskinen is no stranger to the industrial scene, where flirting with that sort of stuff is common. All in all, Joutsen was basically right when he assumed (as quoted in the Amorphis biogrsphy book) that Koskinen just randomly pulled a shirt out of his not-too-dirty laundry pile. Koskinen obviously didn't give it much thought in terms of the whole family-friendly context of Amorphis, but. It was like December 31st...not the time of year conducive to sober reflection ;P Actually there is at least one interview where Pasi adds some detail to the story, but it's in Finnish (Inferno mag from some time in 2017)

2020 and still listening to this song. Amazing!
Yup!
Hells yeah!
2021
Here 2021. Tuonela is a classic.
And in 2022 too
One of their best songs!
Tuonela is a masterpiece , loving the Pasi era almost as much I love Tomi !!!

One of the song I'm not tired to listen love Amorphis from the early years to nowadays
Since Pasi, I don't listen Amorphis. The Pasi period is the best for me.
You're missing out on some fantastic music, but you do you.
I had actually forgotten about this song. Good thing it came up. I love it.
слушаю эту тему в 2022,всё так же мощно!!! Спасибо amorphis за то что вы с нами ,а мы с вами все эти годы ,так держать.👍👍👍

Mine too. And immediately fell in love. Because of his hair. Long hair is a must for all metalheads
