- In selecting our next project bike, we seriously considered several middleweight adventure bikes...Honda Transalp 750, Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE, Yamaha Tenere 700, and Aprilia Tuareg 660. But ultimately it came down to the Tuareg vs the Tenere. In this video, we discuss the pros and cons of each bike, and share the results of the championship fight!!!

Sweet video! I too got a 660. I owned a '22 ATAS. This bike is more comfortable 2 up with my wife and I. And much more fun offroad.

I don't get why people compare the Tenere to the likes of Tuareg, KTM etc, it's in a different category , simple affordable and built for reliability, like comparing a basic Toyota to a Lexus. Most people including myself buy a T7 because it doesn't have all the complicated electronics and is more like a big dirtbike. The Tuareg is a good bike but looks more like an adventure tourer to me. If I was going to ride around the globe I'd take a DR650 or KLR650 or a T7, simple, fixable and basic to work on.
I hear ya! That's why I mention how much riding my friend's T7 was like being on a big dirt bike. In the end, to each their own, right?

@@AdvBrewery I own a T7 and love it, also have a Kodiak 700 and grizzly 550 which have been bulletproof reliable under hard work.
I have the AREO FLOW seat cover on my CB500X that is also a great comfortable and 5:29 good air flow cover.

“Sahara” is the perfect name for this bike with this heat……I got my Tuareg today and rode almost 200 miles. It is an amazing bike BUT….this heat coming out of the engine and catholic converter is killing me. I put a metal plate on the muffler to protect my bag not to get melted and thanks Goddess the bag did not touch this plate. I couldn’t hold my hand on it. It was so hot.
For me this heat is a huge issue.
Hi MotoPavilion! I live in a warm environment in South Carolina. But the heat off the cat doesn't bother me. Fortunately, if it bothers you, there are 2 easy solutions. You can wrap the header pipe and cat in "muffler tape" to reduce heat. Or you can "de-cat" the bike by replacing the header pipe with one that doesn't have a catalytic converter. Do some research and you'll find both solutions online. In fact, I might record a video on how to wrap the cat with muffler tape soon. Would that be helpful to you?
@@MotoPhotoAdventures Thanks for the reply. I start checking a lot different sources for this issue. Changing CC will not fix the issues. They say that 50% of the heat comes from the engine and the radiator and the other 50% comes from the CC. Winter is coming and for now I will keep it the way it is.
@@MotoPavilion in that case, you could look at the heat as a "bonus feature" on your bike! It's like getting a free let-warmer for winter riding. 🙂 Seriously though, some say there can be variations in how much heat is put out from one Tuareg to the next. I'm not sure if that's the case or if different humans are more just more sensetive to the heat. The Tuareg does put out more heat than my Honda CB500X. But it just doesn't bother me. I always wear full riding gear with boots when going out on roads. But I'll occasionally ride around the neighborhood in shorst and sneakers for fun. And even then it doesn't really bother me. Maybe it's because I'm too busy grinning at how much fun the bike is to ride! But I can tell you the majority of the heat definitely radiates from the CAT area of the header pipes. Again, talk to anyone who has done a complete exhaust swap with a de-cat (Arrow, HP Corse, Mivv or Akrapovic seem popular), and they will all tell you it's a huge change! Some have even done before/after temp measurements to prove it. I'm pretty sure this would solve your issue. Obviously you ARE riding a vehicle with an engine between your lets. So there's always going to be some heat. But replacing the exhaust would solve the "excess" heat. And you'd have the added bonus of a lighter bike (since the stock exhaust is pretty heavy). But this is a costly option. And it may void your warranty. So do your research. Meanwhile, I think I'll do an experiment, taking heat measurements before, then wrapping the header and CAT with muffler tape, and taking measurements after. I'll bet you that will quell the excess heat enough for most riders to stop noticing it. Anyway, hope this helps. Meanwhile, enjoy riding!!!

@@MotoPhotoAdventures I am doing MABDR right now with full gear of course. I am with Aerostich pants. When I am off the pavement every time when I squeeze the bike with my knees , I feel how hot the bike is. When I ride on the road more intensively, from time to time I have to stretch mostly my right leg to cool it of. It gets hot just above my boot. I had CB500X for more than 2 years. I’ve never had any issues in heat department, actually, I’ve never had an issue with CB500X 🤣🤣🤣 On Tuareg Facebook group, I am the one that told you that I will never follow your DIY videos because after I changed my chain and sprockets they stole my bike 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t get me wrong, I really like Tuareg. I believe that this is the right bike for me. Heat is a good thing…….in a winter time 🤣🤣🤣

The new Transalp does use a throttle by wire system.
WOW!!! That's cool. I didn't know that. Does it have cruise control? Early reports I read said it didn't. So thanks for letting me know!
@MotoPhotoAdventures no cruise this is why everyone was complaining just like the vstrom 800 no cruise but also throttle by wire.
@@mrdonfranklin yeah...see...that just doesn't make sense. If they've got throttle by wire, why not include cruise control? Maybe it's a cost cutting measure? But it seems short-sighted to me. Thanks for your comment!
@@avro9707 that's not cool! The Africa Twin is difficult to replace the air filter as well. But my new Aprilia Tuareg 660 has the air filter above the tank...it's super easy to replace.
I find it interesting how hard T7 folks try to justify their purchase. Aprilia's are fantastic machines. Trade your T7 for a Tuareg you will never look back.

I'm riding 40 years and would NEVER choose European before Japanese. European stuff is iffy at the best and pure crap at the worst. Add Chinese into the equation and it's a disaster in the making.
I used to think that way too. I've owned Kawasaki,Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda. This is my first European bike. It has a few known weaknesses, which I've already addressed. But no worse than the KLR "doohickey", or the CB500X leaky water pump. So far, I'm impressed with the Tuareg!
