There was a time when I used to know all the in game cries so well that my friends had to mute their games when picking out a team to battle against me.
Suggestion - do nuzlockes for each gen you didn’t get 100% - and you can ONLY use the ones you forgot/didn’t get. To make even harder, you can’t include those you didn’t get due to spelling and if you got the evolution, but not their previous stage (e.g. wiglett) you can catch that but NOT evolve.
There is a precise quiz for naming all the Pokémon without doing one generation at a time, it would have been more accurate calculating how much time it would take you to name all of them
Acing the first four gens goes to show how much knowledge you have of those generations. You also came pretty close in Gen 5, which you've done a decent amount of playthroughs on this channel. I think if the timer was longer like in gens 1-3 you would have been able to reach nearly all of gen 6 and a bit more of gen 7. Gen 8 and 9 were kinda lost causes, they're so recent I'm not surprised you've forgotten the names but remembered some of the faces.
The Gen 3 pokedex remains one of the most memorable for me. You can mentally go through all of Emerald, and manage to hit every single pokemon in the dex. Even for the more forgettable mons, like Roselia, there is some trainer that pops into the mind (The Aroma Lady at Mauville beach, in this case). Genuinely one of the best designed games in terms of mon distribution.
@@kuks0453 When you do the Magma underwater cavern quest, the dude at slateport gives you a Deep See Tooth or Scale. That's how I remember the Clamperl line. That, and the fact that it's one of like, two Pokemon you can encounter underwater.
This so interesting to me, as a new player, because I could probably get half of Gen 1 (older players always talk about it) and Gen 8 (Sw/Sh was my first game), clear Gen 9, and bomb the rest.
I'm gonna enjoy watching this vid later today! I routinely try out the sporcle quizzes myself, it's really fun to go back and see how many more you can get from the last time, and keep track of your time scores! I've been able to complete Gens 1 - 7 with minutes to spare, I'm even able to complete Gen 3 and 4 in dex order! Gens 8 and 9 continue to be trouble, since I've never been able to play the Switch titles, I'll never be fully versed in their mons, but its fun to see how many i do know off the top of my head.
fun fact: feraligatr is spelled that way because back in gen 2 Pokemon names were restricted to 10 letters. not a lot of space on a GBC rom, every byte counted!
Lol I love sporcle. During my free time at school I do this quizzes until I knew all of them. Now I do pokemon moves. So far memorized all normal type moves.
That was ridiculously good. Even though I've played so much Pokémon in my life when I did the test I didn't even get all the gen one mons. Not because I didn't know them at all, but I'd just forgotten them completely.
I can do gens 3, 4, 5, and 6 because those are my childhood and teenagehood. Gen 1 and 2 are too early on me and gen 7 and beyond just got so convoluted that I gave up
I'm such an old man that the only gen I can reliably name as a gen is gen 1, all the other gens have blended together for me. I know the Pokémon but am mostly useless at putting them in a specific gen
I'd say those are the gens I'm confident with as well, but for different reasons. Gen 3 was all the romhacks I'd play, 4 is my favorite, 5 is my first and 6 has a tiny dex and I've played it 1k hours. Sure, I can name the first two too, and maybe a bunch of the later ones, but that range is probably my best. It's not often I see someone name that specific range!
I always remember that shellder and cloyster come before ghastly line because i thought the black ball inside of cloyster died and became the ghastly when i was 5
I at least wanted to do Gen one and I only got 124/151. Some of them I did forget were in Gen one, such as Pinsir, but my biggest mistakes were Doduo, Dodrio, Porygon, Krabby, Kingler, Hypno, and Drowzee.
I'm obsessed with these quizzes, i come back to them every once in a while. I can get every Pokemon from gen 1-8. Though its only recently i was able to get all of 8. 9 i have managed all of them except like 3. I don't remember which Pokemon they were but it was out there ones like Rellor and Bramblin. A couple tricks I find are helpful while doing them is: 1- reciting the pokerap(s), or any verses of it you do know. That only applies to gens 1, 2 and 3. 2- going through the game in order in your head.. though obviously thats going to work for some games more than others. 3-try to go out of your way to remember the obscure ones. Most people when doing the quiz for gen 1 forget Exeggcute and Exeggutor, for example 4-thinking of not only your favorites(which is an obvious thing to do lol) but also your friends favorites. How can i forget Magcargo when I know one of my friends really likes it? (Most of why I even remember that is because its a niche fave as-is lol) Anyway very cool to see this get done and show people that the quizzes exist, I think they're so fun and really train your brain and typing. 😊
The only reason I was able to get Glimmora and Tinkaton and associated pre-evolutions is because my niece used them on her first play through of Gen 9.

i recognize the cries i hear often, S/V helped with that
Me too, I used to go one by one in the BW2's pokedex just to memorize them
Me with gen 4
Same, I knew every evolution level and even at which level what move is learned of most of the pokemon
Flygon took "oh you like Pokemon? Name every Pokemon" quite literally.
The fact you didn't miss any til Gen 5 is impressive AF. Superior game knowledge.

Yeah I noticed especially as he got to the second half of the gens that some of the names and spellings got more and more ridiculous lol

More suitable for me to listen to him in my sleep, it’s like counting mareeps, just pure calm.
Out of 1021 Pokemon, you only missed 80, that's some damn good memory
The animations as pokemon were named were SO GOOD! A+ editing
