Manually copying the file path into excel can take ages. You can use a script to export the contents of a folder into an excel file so you can do this with thousands of images not just a few. Takes this awesome technique to a new level when you can do this process over thousands of files at once.

Each page has a vertical grid of images for each column. The problem is that for each page I need to use different amount of columns and rows. For instance, at page one I need 4 columns. 1st column - 4 images 2nd column - 3 images 3rd column - 1 image 4th column - 4 images I could create a whole document with Data Merge, following this layout but the problem comes when I need page two to have a diferent one depending on what I write in the CSV. For instance, page two now with 4 columns: 1st column - 1 image 2nd column - 4 images 3rd column - 1 images Is there a way to prepare this grid layout for each page individually with Data Marge? It should consider the amount of images in each vertical column grid and number of columns. I tried but im not sure if this was a clear explanation... Hope you have an answer! Thanks!! :)
This tutorial was amazing. However I got a problem. I can't set Records per Document Page to Single Record to Multiple Record. This tab is not active. Can you please tell me why?

One thing I can't figure out - after I data merge, say I have updates (either adding people, OR, updated images for people) - how can i go about updating the merged doc I already created without having to create a new one? Everytime I click "update data source" in the merged doc, nothing is happening. I don't want to have to re-format everything everytime I have an update? THANK YOU AGAIN!

Usually i work with a master file, and when i have heavy modifications in terms of content i just update the csv and start over with the master and over write the previous file.

What if you have multiple types of images? Like, lets say, I want to make a certificate for someone who took multiple classes, and each class gets a seal on the certificate, but not everyone took the same classes. So I have someone who took 101 and 103, while another person took 102 and 103. Is there a way to create a merge that would place the right images in the right space?
Create Multiple Records function is trash in InDesign, it was completely useless to me since there is no control how the records are placed on the document, you only have very basic settings and the only layout is the grid. I couldn't use it on any of the orders we received over 6 years.

Hello Mahmudul, I was unfortunately not able to replicate this issue.
You can only view this tab prior to completing merging the Data. You can not change the Record view after the data merge document is created.
Delete any extra pages that you have in your document so that you are left with one page

hmm.... Did you set up the placeholders on the master page or on a page in the document? (not sure if it makes a difference)
