    Hi there, this is very helpful - say you have 5 pages in adobe of yearbook photos sorted out alphabetically, and then you have to insert another one - is there a way to insert that photo into the right alphabetical spot AND have everything else automatically move over 1 spot??

      Hey Amanda. Right at this minute there's no easy way I can think of to do that without scripting. The easiest way to do it is probably to remove everything onwards of the slot you need to insert, then run the procedure again-but it does rely on the incoming images to be appropriately named, of course. It's a great question, though and I'll mull it over some more-if an answer does present itself, I'll be sure to let you know!

    This was very helpful. I have 1400 images to add titles. Suggestions to most effectively do this in Bridge? I also need to make an index at the back of the book that I am working on. It doesn’t seem to work with this method. Thanks!

      Hey. Depending on the images, you may be able to accelerate this with metadata templates, As for indexing, that requires that the captions become actual text, rather than the dynamic captions; you should be able to fix that (once you're ready to index) by "flattening" them-choose Object > Captions > Convert to Static Caption. Let me know if that helps!

      @@TheDesignNinja I got that to work. One more thing. I need the gallery to appear as first name followed by last name. Is there a way to create the index so that it is sorted alphabetically by last name using the information from the static caption?

      @@TheDesignNinja Not sure my last message went through. I got it to work. Now if the gallery needs to be first name last, how can I get the index to display alphabetically by last name?

      Indexing is a big topic. First name and lastname are variables so you would need some way to identify those to InDesign. Take a look at IndexMatic and see if that will help: www.indiscripts.com/post/2019/12/indexmatic-dealing-with-homonyms

    This is awesome! I currently use QuarkExpress keyboard shortcuts (donʻt judge me, LOL) is there a QX shortcut for this method?

    • @TheDesignNinja
      @TheDesignNinja  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No because there is nothing that ot maps to in QuarkXpress.

    cant for the life of me get the file name not have the .jpg as part of it. Cant search and delete or bridge stops seeing it as useable. Ideas?

    • @TheDesignNinja
      @TheDesignNinja  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Keith, you could always convert the captions to static, use grep styles with a paragraph/character style combo that applies a fill of none to the string "jpeg", but that's fiddly and without trying not entirely sure myself if that would work. Let me pit myself against it and see if that works, as well as a more elegant solution.

      I had the same issue. I used this tutorial: www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/filename2title.html It will copy the image name in the title field and with a little change to the code (community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/how-can-you-remove-the-extension-jpg-tiff-from-the-filename-in-bridge/m-p/8719373?page=1#M60465) you will be able to get rid of the .jpg I just did it and it is working. Amazing tutorial, thank you Design Ninja

    How did you make the image box and text box?

      Make the image box with the Frame Tool and the Text Boxes with the Text Tool. :)

    I am getting a weird text in my caption and not the title I gave the picture with Bridge CC. The reason could be that I am having many cores and other stuff in the metadata of the pictures.
    Can I do anything about that?

    • @TheDesignNinja
      @TheDesignNinja  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Sorry to hear that. What's the weird text you're getting?

    • @jurkehartz121
      @jurkehartz121 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't really read it because the text is overlapping. But I think it says something like multiple overlapping links. I did it just to try without portraits so maybe this could be the reason.

    • @TheDesignNinja
      @TheDesignNinja  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok, the answer to this is easy-the caption frame is touching more than one object. Take the caption frames and the image frames out onto their own layer, and see what happens. The caption frame needs to be touching the image frame for the live caption to work.

    • @jurkehartz121

      I'm sorry that I have to bother you again but your idea didn't work out for me :(
      So I had a break of working until all the photos are finished, which they nearly are. But unfortunately it isn't working yet. After having moved the frames into different layers the text i mentioned above reamined so I took the background image out. But as a result I don't get text when pasting photos in and I don't have the "no intersecting link" text as well.

    • @TheDesignNinja
      @TheDesignNinja  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jürke. It's not a bother, don't worry. If you're using a background image, then you need to enable the "Group Caption with Image" option in the caption setup. Also, you have to place the content into thew frames, not paste it . :)
