About 6 years ago, I made a video covering the original live-action pilot of The Backyardigans, which performed pretty well. However, in that video, I only briefly mentioned the CGI pilot. Since then, more information has surfaced about the CGI version, and I've somewhat lost hope of the live-action pilot ever being released (even though it has been found but remains unreleased). So, I decided to dive deeper into the CGI pilot.
The Backyardigans is a CGI-animated series that premiered on Nick Jr. in 2004, but its roots go back to 1998 when the concept was initially planned as a live-action show with actors in costumes. Eventually, this idea was scrapped in favor of CGI animation, and the rest is history. While I've had an interest in lost media since mid-2017, your Me and My Friends video was probably the thing that made lost media hunting a consistent hobby that I still have to this day, so thanks for that. This video was pretty good, but there were a few inaccuracies I noticed in terms of the timeline of events (I've been trying to find info on this pilot for longer than most people, so it make sense that some details might get misinterpreted now that more people are aware of this its existence).
To my knowledge, the first discovery of the pilot was actually the footage from the demo reel. The clip was used in a fanmade retrospective to celebrate the tenth anniversary of The Backyardigans. The video was eventually privatized, but the footage from the pilot was thankfully archived beforehand. _Somehow_ the archived footage became lost again over time. The image you described as being the only image of the pilot on the internet was actually one of the only surviving screenshots from when that clip was still available to the general public. The clip was found yet again a few years later after the demo reel was unearthed (it was originally unclear where the creator of the retrospective obtained the clip in the first place, but in all likelihood, they probably just found the demo reel years before anyone else did and used the pilot footage for their retrospective).

The reboot is a cheap cash grab.
