Great video, I believe the TH-cam rc community has been missing a good honest video like this. A lot of great manufacturers mentioned for the fpv side of the hobby👍
Not all cells are created equal. They are graded, with 'A' being the best and then getting worse as the letters increase. When a manufacturer like TESLA or DYSON order LI-ION cells from a manufacturer, they will only take the A and B cells. The ones that don't make the cut, get sold off. A 'D' grade cell is a lot better then a 'H' or 'N' grade cell. These lower performance cells are still fine for things like vapes but bot great for planes/wings. Happy flying!
@@Painless360 Well I didn't know that... Thank you for this info. Is this grade visible on battery? First raw is US18650VTC6 C6, second raw is G 0355928CH12C 144 third raw is MURATA INR19/66. I guess first letter in second raw might be grade, before serial number. However all images I found are either G or K. Nothing else available to buy.
Battery wise, have you looked at Overlander? We used them to get some brick sized 5S batteries and those NiHM packs for Taranis TXs. They also do custom packs (no idea how much).
Thank you for this video. I can attest to the fact buying cheap is buying twice. I bought a fake imax b6 charger off from amazon when I first started the hobby 2 months ago and I only recently realized those were counterfeit SkyRC products. I bought a SkyRC iMax B6 Neo after seeing your review on it.
can you please make a video about the combatibility of the 3 hd vrx and cameras - dji-walksnail-HD zero , does they share anything common on the hardware?
the video of the summer and like it a lot - thanks for the update. 10:25 maybe Speedybee is missing in this list since their fcs are great, the F405 wing is available for a very good price or even better than the older Matek and the SpeedyBee Adapter V3
Great videos! I've been binging all week trying to understand as much as I can about the hobby. I'm looking for a bit of advice, I want to get into long range fixed wing/plane flying using Ardupilot missions. I want to start with something fairly affordable that will let me get more comfortable with Ardupilot before dropping a lot of money into something that is larger and much higher performance. I'm currently looking at the ZOHD Drift Dark Breeze PNP as my first drone, but I'm not sure what the best FC, battery, and other electronics would be best for a long range capable build using the Drift, although I am willing to look at other models around the same price if there is a better option! I also don't really want to use FPV goggles, I want more of a "DJI"ish arrangement where I can use a monitor or my phone/iPad/laptop to display the output of the FPV camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I feel there is so much to learn that it has quickly overwhelmed me and I don't want to invest in my first setup only to end up disappointed.
The Zohd drift is a very small model with limited room for components. It also can't cope with anything above a light breeze, so maybe not ideal for any more than park flying on a super-calm day... best of luck
Depends on how you want to fly. Ripper and BARP break down to the smallest. BARP is a nice all rounder and can do slower speeds, Ripper is a speed machine but can't float for toffee. T1 is a great all rounder but is a little tricker to get in a backpack..
I would definitely go ELRS if I was starting again but I have 30+ models of all sorts of types with Spektrum, Radiomaster, Frsky and Crossfire receivers in them and I think a few more 8ch Radiomaster ones in the drawer so not practical to change. I'll probably end up with a module one day though if I buy something like a Mobula 8. However, I have to face up to the realities of FPV, having had a go on a friend's Walksnail equipped quad and realising I never wanted to fly analog again! My HD3's are not really suitable for the VRX module. Would you recommend something like used HDOs and a VRX module as an 'all in one' WS/analog goggle or to buy Walksnail goggles and simply have to use two pairs of goggles?
Would you recommend VTOL's as a first plane ? It feels like it would be better for the smaller spaces and for situations where I might loose VTX signal, where I can just hover and return back
Defiantly not. You have all the complexity of a multirotor and a fixed wing with a additional level of complexity on top. Unless you can get a 'solid' VTOL that works out of the box perfectly, they are a real pain to repair and dial in..
Nice little video, interesting to know what you like. Hoping to see more on V-Tol. I’ve just brought a hewing T1 Vtol with the flight controller. I’ve never used ardupilot, but I’m sure I will figure it out, it will be nice to see some videos on what to adjust to help stabilise the hover and transitions. I did see you video the other day with the ardupilot developer., that was very interesting. Keep up the good work, you really are helping the hobby a lot 😊
More stuff is coming on that model when Ardupilot 4.4 is out. Huge amounts of work on that specific model and Ardupilot that should result in some dramatic improvements in flight! Stay tuned!
I don't have any in that category I'd recommend. For me, it needs a GPS and flight time of I've 15mins to qualify.... some nice 4" quads that have decent flight times (Crocbaby 4"). See my sub 250g playlist for the ones I have tried here...
Thanks for this. A previous review like this of yours led me to the AR Wing Pro as my first fixed wing. I'm really liking it, so thanks. I do wish you had said a little more specifically about motors and esc choices. Simply because I'm a little stuck on that right now. I'm looking for a more powerful motor for the AR Wing. Tthe 2216 stock motor is great, but overheats with a heavier battery. I'm looking for a slightly larger stator size to handle the load better. I'm far more familiar with motor/esc for 5" freestyle quads. Are there any motors in the 2810 - 2812 size and 1200-1400kv range you might recommend for the AR Wing Pro? Any ESC that you'd pair with such a motor would be nice to know too. Thanks for the information and any advice you are able to provide. Safe flying.
Motors and props are a whole series on their own! See the 'motor and prop' series I made with Markus from eCalc on how to tweak your setup for more speed, more endurance, or easier launches (th-cam.com/video/MJEHF_Vtuek/w-d-xo.html ) ... Happy flying
HobbyRC in the UK has started stocking the ZOHD Li-ion batteries, don’t know how good the batteries are but you seem to like them in previous reviews. Talking of “reviews” whenever I see a title that says “new”, “best” or “supplied by” I don’t even bother to watch anymore, the only reviews I watch now are those that are self funded where the reviewer has purchased the item with either their own or patron money, it’s the only way to know for sure that the review is unbiased.
A number of RC channels are trying to replace a day job with their social media content, and that causes issues IMHO. Click-bait, everything being 'amazing' or controversial and them charging thousands for a video mean that the content are 'paid for' adverts, not reviews. Content can still be honest, balanced and useful with 'free' kit but in a system where controversy is more likely to drive traffic than a balanced review, too often they'll sink to the lowest common denominator... Happy flying!
@@Painless360 super efficient, flies like it’s on rails, fast like a jet, easy to launch. This wing checks all of the boxes for sure. I’m using a 4s 3300 lipo so it’s the perfect balance for me. Diatone Ripper has since been retired and this has taken its place 😎
Thanks a bunch for all the tips and info, Lee! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
