On the “No drainage” I would just recommend to use CalMag when watering - and I have learned the hard Way that I should wait 3-4 days with watering whenever I Think they might be thirsty 🤣 but it is actually great with No drainage in glass vessels, because you dont spend so much time watering plants 😍

I was just thinking to myself that I need to make sure they dry out enough being a chronic overwaterer 😅 I am LOVING the no drainage so far so I’m trying to control myself!!! 😆

Over the years my collection has developed to be 350ish orchids and then 150ish other plants. The thing I wish I had known was learning when to repot. I’ve found unless there is some emergency like rot bark or roots. The best time to repot is when they are actively growing roots. Most orchids since they grow so slow the growth cycles are long and different than plants. So if you repot them at the wrong time it can really set them back. Hopefully that made sense repot when it’s growing new roots. Rick L orchids is a challenge with a ton of great fertilizer info. Hillbilly and ninja orchids have great info on how and when to repot. I really like Howard’s collection he has some cool plants doesn’t make many vids.

Thank you so so much for the tips and recommendations!!!! I can’t wait to look them up and will remember this when I’m thinking about repotting 🤗🪴

You have the perfect window window for those shelves. Looks fantastic! I was typing out Miss Orchid Girl, but you've found her 🤣

uh-oh, don't get bit by the bug, otherwise after awhile most of your plants will be orchids and you will be building shelves everywhere!!! thanks for sharing...and once you get over the media thing you will see that its actually easier to manage than soil, at least imho. also glad to see you have a paph in the group. that bell/roth hybrid could be a real stunner when it blooms!! best of luck on your orchid journey!

I have definitely been bitten and am trying to prevent the spread of the hysteria 😆 I’ve been thinking ‘hmmm I could add some more wall mounted planters…’ 😅I think paphs are my fave!! Thank you so much!! 😊🫶🏻

Great start on your orchid collection. You should check out an orchid show.. it might be a bit overwhelming the first time, though. But it’s a great experience. About your Paph. Rolfei. It’s a primary hybrid not a complex. The names in the parentheses are the names of the sib crosses of the parents (ex.: bellatulum ‘Gomatizer X bellatulum ‘Smile of Magician’). In the orchid collecting world knowing the parents can give us an idea of the type or quality of the flower.

Omg thank you so much for the info!! I will definitely need to check out a show in the future but am concerned about my impulse control 😆 It’s gonna take me a while to figure out the lineage/cross situations but I am really enjoying learning so much!! 🤗💚

@@leaveswithles the parentage is mostly important when buying an unbloomed seedling and if you’re looking for a specific color, fragrance and/or shape of flowers. Orchids collectors usually buy seedlings because it’s cheaper. So we want the maximum of info on the plant before buying it. I understand that you’re hesitant to go to an orchid show. The first time I went to one I came back with a dozen plants 😅 but that was like 15years ago. Back then online shopping wasn’t really a thing. Anyway, if you attend one don’t forget to bring your camera and make some good content for us! If it’s too noisy or you’re too shy, just make a voice over afterward ;)

This is a dangerous video. I’ve been thinking about getting some orchids, I just got 6 new Hoya and I don’t need any orchids but they’re so pretty. Mathew at hello plant lovers has really good orchid videos.

Thank you for the suggestion!! I’m definitely going to look him up! I keep telling myself I don’t need more plants too - if you find something that works let me know 😆😆

I've been rehabbing an coconut orchid. It was lost in the mail for a month. I'm actually surprised it wasn't completely dead. I wanted one for a long time so fingers crossed it thrives eventually!! 😊
