  • The last time I made a video on stripping fibers and making yucca cordage, I searched YT for videos. Out of the several I found, I chose 10 to recommend in the description section of that video. Now the spoon technique is not new, but it was not shown and explained as well as I do in this video... and the thing about it is, I had only 3 yucca leaves and I was figuring it out as I went... I used to hate stripping fibers from yucca until I stumbled upon this technique in the last few minutes of this video. Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of this video. Thanks!

It is actually pretty easy to get good fiber from the yucca - thanks for showing the full process. It is strong, too. There is also a clever little thing you can do where you break off the point of the leaf and pull it down to keep a couple of fibers attached. Voila - instant needle with thread. It will work well enough to sew a quick emergency repair. :-) Tina

Good job and Yucca makes some strong fibers. Have several plants in my yard and they grow and multiply like crazy. Take care and God Bless, xxx

I just mash it with wood against another peice of wood. I get more fiber that way. It's a slower process, but gives more. I like this idea too. I got agave leafs so I'll figure out how to get the fibers from those. I gotta make some cordage

The spoon does waste a lot of the fibers by cutting and breaking them. I'll have to try mashing.

This was very informative. Here in S. Indiana there is some yucca; but dogbane is quite common. A.k.a. purple milkweed ?

Upstate SC is supposed to have Dogbane, but I can find it. When I do, I have lots of techniques I want to try.

heat your yucca on fire or build a fire pit, build a fire, let it dye down in coals and throw lots of yucca on top and cover with dirt.. take out a few hours later and scrape with shell or spoon.. then hang to dry..

I just scraped 4 leaves today and reverse wrapped a strong little cord. I'd like to try your method some day. Thank you!

But I see you can get good yield with spoon. So I'll be using the idea to speed up the pace
