    Table in Italian can be translated either as "tavolo" (male) or "tavola" (female). The first refers only to the piece of furniture, while the second can also mean "board". For example, surfboard in Italian is "tavola da surf".

      The way I learned the difference was that tavola also specifically meant a table for eating.

      @@henrymerkel1385 you are correct and it was the first thing to come to my mind; I never tought of it on a larger scale but I'd say OP is right, tavolo is just the furniture, any time you use it in a combined word or in a concept it becomes feminine: dining table is one case with tavola da pranzo (often just tavola), other examples are ironing board (tavola da stiro), round table (tavola rotonda), periodic table (tavola periodica) - by the way, why tf last one is called table I never tought of it ahahah

    In French there is a very smalll number of words that "change gender" according to whether they are used in the singular or in the plural : for instance "love" is masculine when used in the singular but feminine when used in the plural lol ( don't worry, even French people get confused )

    • @pasaniucdaniel4112
      @pasaniucdaniel4112 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that is how the neuter gender works in Romanian, for example „un măr” (an apple) is masculine in the singular, but it becomes „două mere” (two apples) feminine in the plural, and most neologisms are in the neuter gender, but we dont find it strange, it just is the way it is, I never heard anyone complain about it

    4:22 is really relatable.
    Also drew I don't see switserland inventing capatalism (Apologies for that by the way), so for your question at 6:57, because it's accurate.
    Furthermore as a half-Irishman I also approve of the Demoman. I honestly usually do go for either a thief or demoman in games, so it checks out. And as someone who visited brussel. South Netherlands is rather weird. So that checks out as well!
    Finally, if you think European Folklore is all whimsy, you are mistaken. So say goodbye to your nutsack, you won't be seeing that again. At least, if you're lucky.
    PS.: De tafel, het tafeltje. Depends on the size of the table, and on if you call de or het feminine/masculine. De could either be called masculine or feminine, same with het. Dutch doesn't really have gendered language.

    Why do I find it funny that the national animal of France is something that can be described as a four letter word thats NSFW and perfectly describes the French in some cases if used in it's plural form. Or the short form of Richard with an S on the end.
