”Canada gave up land to the polish in 1920 for the fallen soldiers of WW2”. Drew is gonna rewrite history.
I mean of we count the 7 years war As world war one then this is a compleatly correct sentence
Yes
Of course
Wtf 2 w wtf
To be fair: The Art of War was written as the most basic advice possible for ancient nobles who had zero idea how to war.
On War was intended to be an overview of modern war for military officers in training / already trained in the early to mid 1800s.
Both are really good at what they're trying to do, it's just that they're not trying to do quite the same thing.
Ok then,I will read Art of War first and later On War,Thank you!
@@Taylor_slayss What are you planning to do? A little bit of trolling in Europe?
@@qhayiya252 YES
what war did you fight "I enjoyed the war" cuz I just read forgotten highlander
"Frankly, I enjoyed the war" man had a song written about himself. 'The unkillable soldier' by Sabaton.
Sabaton destroyed my left ear. 👍14/10

The really crazy part is there was one American guy who went out of his way to bayonet charge a German machine gun at 10:59 am. The Germans tried to wave him off, then fired warning shots, but he wouldn't stop, so they finally shot and killed him. He was the last known soldier to die in combat in WW1.
That sounds kinda sad
If he really was as bloodthirsty as this story makes it sound, he had it coming.
@@fandyus4125 Less a case of blood thirst I think and more a case of suicide by German.
@@fandyus4125 I think the reason he charged the Germans was to reclaim his honor. Earlier in the war he had been demoted for writing home about the terrors of the war and encouraging people who were resisting the draft. He was shamed and put down, and he felt his only chance to reclaim his honor was to defeat a group of Germans, specifically a German machine-gun nest which was guarding a road blockade. While I don't believe taking the lives of the enemy when they weren't a threat at all is worth it to reclaim your honor, it is important to recognize his motive wasn't simply bloodthirst.
If you combine the British waters, the Afghan mountains and the Russian weather you get... Iceland! (I guess it makes sense since they defeated Britain without even having a military)
Plus they have volcanoes and are on an oceanic rift. So not only does the country get bigger, they can also stop all air travel.
5:28 Fun fact: the Allies did actually have plans to nuke Berlin first before Japan became the last member of the Axis still standing, but the reason that never happened was because it fell to the Soviets sooner than many anticipated.
Also fun fact: the first country to actually drop the nuclear bomb could have been Britain, as the American's didn't exactly have a bomber that had a long enough range to get to the target while carrying the massive bomb, only the British Lancaster could. So when the B-29 was made available, they scrapped the plans with the British bomber.
Soviets always ruining everybody's fun.
@@francoislacombe9071Berlin still got flattened by the Allies through the bombings and the battle
@@asordidlobsteri see the British trying to cope for almost losing Ww2
@@angelcabeza6464 Dunno what you're on about mate...
Fun fact; the relationship between Spain and Hispanic America was kinda rocky in the mid 1800s, which led to a war between Spain and a coalition made by Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Both sides claim victory.
8:13 funny thing that ... The region is known as "Burgenland" and is often seen as the "Alabama of Austria" by the rest of Austria. (Its provincial capital has a population of just over 14k.)
If memory serves, it's also home to a large minority of croatians, so hearing that "alabama" bit does raise concerns (any context to this?).
Austria is the Alabama of Europe, so just imagine if Alabama had an Alabama
@@Myuxi-i8x Brah. We might have a slight eastern-European slant and terrible politics, but when it comes to many socio-economic indicators Austria is very high up there in terms of quality of life. There is a reason why Vienna is named the most livable city with over a million inhabitants every years since forever.
The reason for "Tamerlame" is because "lame" here means "unable to walk properly" and it's because his foot was damaged during a war. It also might be because those regions hated him so much they tried to humiliate him as much as they could
yeah I'm glad you stated that fact, many ppl forget or don't know about it, but weird thing is, in English it's either Tamerlane or timur the lame
Speaking of, TEDed made an interesting video about his story. If I recall correctly, it was titled "Tamerlane vs History" or something like that
@@georgiandude4810 I was one of those. I translated it from Persian and "lame" didn't make sense until I searched it up

In the battle of Adua 10,000 Italian troops and 7,000 Eritrean troops were defeated by 70,000 - 150,000 Ethiopians, which were armed and supported by the British and the French. On top of that the Ethiopians had a superior knowledge of of terrain. One does not have to be an expert to understand that it was not a humiliating defeat at all, if anything it's a miracle that the result was not worse considering the odds. People seem to think that the Ethiopians were armed with sticks and stones only because they are African.
Exactly plus Italy still had regional issues and the commanders of the small Italian force didn’t collaborate which meant the Ethiopians were fighting 2 armies of 3/5k separately.
The humiliation comes the Italian government thinking they could take Ethiopia with just few men, completely underestimating the Ethiopian's number and generals. "Ethiopians being armed with sticks and stones only because they are African." is literally what the Italy though about them.
Germany had "Storm of Steel" writer Ernst Jünger who called his bunker his favorite livingroom and compared the drop of grenades on his roof to summer rain :)
“Why are so many world leaders falling?” It’s because they are all ancient.
Adrian Carton De Wiart the "Frankly, I enjoyed the war" guy ( who, btw, also described another war as the single greatest experience of his life), is surely a candidate for most interesting man in the world. You could do an entire video just on memes about his life, really someone worth taking a look at, he'd probably take a look at you, but it would has slight perspective problem, because he lost an eye (and more) to war.....yet, still said what he did about his life as a soldier.
I’m pretty certain he had that ultra rare trait of not feeling pain
To be shot in the face and just be irritated at a loss of sight, or biting your own gangrene fingers off casually etc.
Everything he did matches the condition lol
@@XXXTENTAClON227 I'm not sure. There's not a lot of historical evidence for it....adrenaline is a powerful thing....but could be.
1:37 No Drew, the reason why the Monroe doctrine didn't apply is that Falklanders want to stay in the UK so it's not colonization. Same reason why French Guinea is still a part of France, they had plenty of referendum that showed they wanted to remain a part of France so they're still a part of France and the US don't care.
Also, since there were no Native American on the Falkland Islands, that technically makes the British, who had the first colony there, the actual natives of the Falklands.
Wasn't the french technically first and they sold it to Spain because Pope and line on the map
@@georgiandude4810 Nope, not even remotely close. The English discovered it in 1690 and the French in 1764. But yeah, Argentinians try to pretend otherwise as much as possible because their bogus claim on the islands would become even more bogus.
Also, the Treaty of Torsadillas was between Spain and Portugal. No other country cared or had any reason to care, France sold it to Spain because Spain wanted it and they were allies, that's about it.
@@giantWario and probably also to get more money
i suppose you mean "French GUIANA", not "Guinea" because French Guinea was a French colony in Africa but it is now an independent country

I love how everyone don't mention how many men the Ethiopians had......and the fact that they had modern weapons thanks to other Europeans and superior morale/knowledge of the terrain, more than a humiliating defeat it's one of those cases where you ask yourself how the Italians thought they would have won with those numbers and what they actually knew of the Ethiopian army: probably very little....
ppl dont care about context do you ever saw pople talking about the big foreign help usa recevied during the revolutionary war? no, because the narrative is better if it looks like they did it all by themselves like vietnam beating france with way more ppl after 2 world wars, etc
