Bob, today's bible readings included the story of the man at the tombs. I came here to reflect. This song draws me back often. I am 72 years old and have been a music fan all my life. This may be the most powerful song I have ever heard. It is a masterpiece and I thank you for it.
I came from the homosexual lifestyle, this song has changed my life. I can relate to it in so many ways and it brings me to tears every time. Thank the Lord for you and your music. I cherish this song has one of the all-time best Christian songs of the Christ of salvation and redemption I have ever heard. I thank God for you and for your music. God bless you always, in grace, Michael
Beyond words. I feel this song so deeply still these decades later. “Shame and shamelessness equally there…some try to touch me but no one can.” This sums up the spiritual cry of so many men.
I get goosebumps and tears every time I listen to it. A friend of mine had the lyrics engraved on a plaque for me for my birthday. I can't tell you how much this song means to me. I'm sure it does to many.
The older I get, the better I realize that we are all, essentially, men of the tombs and desperately need the grace and freedom that comes only from Christ.
Many people have been tormented and long to be free. I cry with pain and joy when I hear this song, and I am thankful to Christ for how he helps us. Beautiful poetry and singing. Thanks for putting this song up.
A little background- where I live there's a fantastic locally-owned christian radio station and it was there that I first heard this song. It took me a long time just to find out who the artist and title were and even longer to find the song in mp3 form. I later saw Mr Bennett sing in my town but I was late so I'm not sure if he did this song. Nevertheless, it's a favorite of mine and I'm happy others are learning of it. peace
Thanks to all who've checked in here with such supportive comments. I'm not a huge fan of re-recording songs, but in 2002 I did re-record "Man of the Tombs" in a simpler setting for the album "The View from Here" (an album that was simply produced as part of a series). You can probably easily find that newer version on Grooveshark, Spotify, MOG, etc. As Mason Williams once pointed out about a re-recording of "Classical Gas", there are three things to enjoy: the original, the remake, and the difference between the two! [Due to the weirdnesses of the music business, this original version is out-of-print.]
Bob Bennett Thank you for this wonderful song ~ still a witness to ppl after all these years! Always has been a favorite of mine. Added it to a play list. LORD bless you sir.
There is no other song like this one that I am aware of! Only Bob Bennett had the inspiration and vision (and skill) to pull it off! A classic in every sense of the word.
Thank-you Bob! Still moves and tears from then to now.. a great journey into worship and God's Spirit and Word.. which never changes.. Thank-you and God Bless Your Ministry of Music and Testimony!
This song (this version of it) and Lord of the Past are my very favorites by Bob Bennett. Both are heartbreakingly beautiful and minister deeply to my spirit.
HOP, I agree. I've heard some of the other versions, and they are fine, of course. But there is something about this version that is Powerful and I cannot get through it without tears flowing. For Man of the Tombs I was. And God loved me anyway, and clothed me and put me in my right mind. Praise God.
A profound blessing we gain from the demoniac's experience. Among a thousand (legion) demons He knew his name!!!! If you are lost He can will find you. For Son of God I Am. Thanks Bob!
A life changing song about the life changing Son of God. I'm using this song to describe the journey of a sociopath to find healing when no one else thought him worthy or salvageable.
Ii will never leave u nor forsake u, n no wise cast u out. His still small voice this the Lord said to me many yrs.ago when in my mental torment. TKU Jesus
Bob Bennett - Your music moves me! Love this song and just bought your album “The View From Here” in which the songs are awesome! I found out about you through Doug Kinney’s FaithFM radio in NY when I asked him about a clip he plays of yours before some of his programming begins of the song you sing “Oh Hail The Power Of Jesus’ Name” and I asked him, “WHO plays and sings that song? His voice is so lovely, and I would like to hear his song in full.” He told me it was you, so I started researching and found you on TH-cam and iTunes. Thank you for your music. You are a gift to the body of Christ. Trust me when I say, “Your music moves me!”
Nice to see Bob comment on all your support. What a song writer! Perhaps the young ones helping out in the church bands should take a lesson from Sir Bennett. As for me the word is , EDIFYING,
Me too! That is, count me among the many who can relate to -- and have been touched by this song. Once upon a time ... the Health Dept. in the state where I (allegedly) grew up, declared me totally mentally disabled when I reached the age of legal adulthood. By age 36, after multiple institutions, and medicating myself with alcohol to the point where I was dying of cirrhosis -- God, in Christ had a better plan! Presently, by the immeasurable grace and mercy of God -- am 73 and healthy! I didn't earn it, and I don't deserve it -- but He gives His love away! It's a gift; accept it.
@@stillsmallvoice868 still do…But God. Only God reaches and walks in those deep oceanic trenches alongside those and Him alone can lift us up…if we allow Him. Your reply is timely and listened to the song again, I downloaded the album this time. Words do not express yet what I feel. What I have become aware of is…Where are the Men of the Church? I see so few helping other men as Brothers in Christ.
this song has the most perfect fretless bass tone I have ever heard. oh and BTW-I now own the very bass that was used to record this. a 1992 pedulla pentabuzz
While I am a huge fan of the upright bass (which I play in classical, jazz, and symphony band), the first bass guitar I owned (and still own) is a 1980 Ibanez Musician fretless. It is still my favorite electric bass to play. I cannot imagine an upright bass fitting into this recording scene as well as the bass that was used. Dare I say that this is the most "electric" album I've ever heard Bob do ("Yours Alone" has that killer electric guitar with chorus -- also on this same album). Just so tastefully done. And the lyrics, as always, are so expertly written!
Its me and thats brought on by pride. Thank u ny lord. Saved me from myself with just one word. Gone. These demons. Fear i say fear. Our.lord. so remember he loves you to much to leave us in our sin. ❤ mk
Thank you Bob like others tears fall so heavy when I listen to this song because this man was demon possessed yet he knew me I know and still sin so I'm worst 💔 yet not by demons free will sometimes I can't stand to be in my own skin but I thank my lord and savior the only true God for saving a retch like me
Bob: My wife and I host a weekly jam session at our home in Logan, WV. We have wonderful fellowship singing gospel, bluegrass etc. I'm hoping to have some of the pickers learn this one. But, your musical abilities may be too tough for us. So, I guess you'll need to just come be our guest! We would love to have you sit with us and join in the celebration of hope, love and friendship we have in Jesus Christ. Love to you brother.

Not many songs make me cry, but this one does almost every time I hear it.
Song breaks me down every time...
Me too.

God bless you Miguel.
Amazing Miguel! All God's blessings and best to you !
I am still caught in lust being single. Sometimes, I still feel like The Man in the Tombs. 😭
Song breaks me down EVERY time - love the lyric "when no one can touch you, still I can, for Son of God I Am"

Always has been a favorite of mine. Added it to a play list. LORD bless you sir.
I remember this song from our church's youth group skits back in the 90's. What a beautiful song, Bob. A classic.
Hey Bob. Awesome song. Is that a fretless bass on the original and do you know who played the bass line? Your guitar work is amazing also!
There is no other song like this one that I am aware of! Only Bob Bennett had the inspiration and vision (and skill) to pull it off! A classic in every sense of the word.

Got me through my teenage years!! Thank you my JESUS, for Bob Bennett.
This is a wonderful song of deliverance. The lyrics are emotional and powerful. One of my long-time faves, thanks for sharing!
My favorite song of all time. Hands down.
I feel the same way...so awesome

One of my all-time favorites. :-)
Among my favorites, by anyone, for all time, just sayin'!
"Man of the tombs I was"
Bob is a musician's musician, a poet's poet, a guitarist's guitarist, the quintessential voice of the agony and ecstasy of the believer's life !
Thanks Bob! You have ministered to me for years. this song always comes with tears for me.
"Down at the shoreline
Two sets of footprints meet"
Wow ! Nailed it !
The best written song I've ever heard. Not to mention the wonderful arranging and playing.
This song……. So anointed.I weep every time
That is one awesome song; so beautifully put together and passionately delivered.
Thank you Bob Bennett
A profound blessing we gain from the demoniac's experience. Among a thousand (legion) demons He knew his name!!!! If you are lost He can will find you. For Son of God I Am. Thanks Bob!

If the Holy Spirit ever inspired a song outside the Psalms this would be a good bet...:)
Dominated by an unseen enemy....
This song is my biography.

no way...this song is incredible!
This song has always ministered to me- thanks!
As a Vietnam-era veteran this song ministers to those difficult parts of life not easily shared with others.
Some men carry a burden deep as the ocean...

Man of the tomb, no longer doomed!
If the man of the tombs was saved literally anyone can be saved 😊

I have stories to tell.
I am going to hear him this Sunday at a backyard picnic. Love his music! Anyone want to go with me? It is in Browns Valley at 5:00.
This is Patrice, even though it says Eric. Don't know how that happened.
